The grey fog crept across the river bank and began enveloping the hills. No sunlight could pierce the thick clouds above to warm the frozen grass and damp soils. Winter had claimed the land and ensured that the vision of the war party was severely restricted. Horse hooves stomped on the frosted mud and the men who sat atop the steeds shrank into their warm cloaks to hide their visible breath. The harsh winter fought to smother their spirits, but they still marched onwards to battle.
