Severed

Ch-shuu, Ch-shuu... the sound of bristles scrubbing up against the iron pot in Minnie's tired hands had filled the room, even drowning out the sink that poured down before it. It wasn't her usual time to clean the dishes, in fact, the arms of the tiny clock that hung above her read 2:02 am. Minnie had been preparing for this day as the date had been written down on almost every piece of paper that scattered her household. It had filled calendars, bill notices, takeout menus, and even the daily newspaper.
August 17, 2015 Scrubbing the iron pot before her, her nerves had grown and her eyes felt like she hadn't blinked in hours. Tling, tling, tling... charms had rung in the distance and Minnie immediately let go of the pot as it made a sound like a cannon going off, hitting the inside of the sink. Water still flowing and suds up to her wrists, she turned to have a sight line to the door. Fear, anxiety, and hope had bundled itself together in her throat and managed to let her speak the two words she had wanted and never wanted to say...
She's back.
