Tales of Symphonia Story 20

QUIZ START: Okay, once everyone else wakes up you go to the Balacruf Mausoleum
"Oh, it's the Asgard ruin." Raine sighed happily, looking at the old structure. She looked to Lloyd, "Lloyd, state the historical background of this ruin."
"Ah, um, well, lets see..." he mumbled uneasily,
"Its the temple where Cleo III held a ritual to offer a sacrifice to the Summon Spirit of Wind, in order to quell a storm that had raged for a week." Genis answered with a nod.
"That's it." Lloyd agreed with a weak smile.
"Gah! Have you learned anything at all these past 5 years?!" Raine exclaimed,
"PE, and Art, and--"
"Never mind!" Raine began to list facts about the ruin as if to make up for Lloyd's lack of attention, "What perfect form! This delicate curve is said to express the flight of the Summon Spirit of Wind through the sky." she continues on...and on...and on. Lloyd sighed in an annoyed manner, and went around to the back of the ruin, you follow him to get away from Raine. You were almost to the back of the ruin when you hear...
"Listen, Linar! This is my invention, 'The Breaker'. If we use this bomb we can easily destroy this confounded dais!"
"B-but Harley This is a rare and valuable remnant of the Balacruf Dynasty. We cant destroy it..." argued another voice weakly,
"What are you talking about? As things stand now, Aisha may be killed!"
"?" you and Lloyd looked at one another, confused. After stepping around the corner you found two boys tampering with a small box.
"What are you two doing?" asked Lloyd,
"!!" they both jumped and Linar began sweating nervously,
"Wha-- Who are you?" Harley demanded,
"Its not what you think! We weren't trying to destroy the ruin at all!" Raine, on the other side of the ruin, jumped upon hearing this confession. She leapt onto the ruin and dashed across to the back of the ruin,
"What did you say?" she demanded,
"Professor, these guys said they're planning to destroy this stage." Lloyd told her as she jumped down,
"And you call yourself human beings?!" she dealt them both hard kicks to the gut, sending them both flying back,
"I am a half-elf!" exclaimed Harley, brushing off his shoulder as he stood,
"What has that got to do with anything? You have no idea of the importance of this ruin!" Raine said, she flung her arm back and accidentally hit the 'On' switch,
"Uh-oh," you all say at once, although she didn't seem to notice
"You say you're going to destroy this fabulous ruin? Now listen. During the final era of the Balacruf Dynasty, this ruin was..."
"Professor." started Lloyd,
"What? If you have any questions, I'll take them after the lecture." she responded,
"The bomb turned on!" you exclaim before she could begin talking again,
"I said, if you have questions, I'll take them la-" she looked back and jumped slightly, "! ....What?"
"Woman! You flipped the switch!" Harley exclaimed, and Raine kicked him again
"Dont try to put the blame on someone else!"
"That doesn't matter now! Is there a disarm switch?" asked Lloyd, Harley stood up, and announced,
"Of course not!"
"Dont act like you're proud of it!" Raine kicked him again. Lloyd growled in an annoyed manner,
"I guess I'll just have to disarm it myself." after a few minutes of fiddling with switches and wires the bomb was disarmed.

"Hey, you're pretty good to be able to stop my uncontrollable 'breaker'." Harvey complimented with a nod. Lloyd gave another annoyed groan,
"Don't go building stuff you can't control!"
"The ruin seems unharmed." Linar sigh, then you hear footsteps on the other side of the ruin. You looked away from the conversation curiously,
"What is it?" asked Lloyd,
"Someone is coming towards the ruin, I can hear them. No, wait...it sounds like a few people." you respond,
"You there! Trespassing in this area is forbidden!" exclaimed a man's voice on the other side of the ruin,
"Good call." Lloyd told you with an approving nod,
"Oh no, it's the mayor!" exclaimed Linar,
"Uh-oh! Run!" Harley agreed. As they ran off Lloyd turned to Raine,
"Professor! This looks like trouble. Let's just get out of here" Lloyd said.
"But I haven't had time to study the structure of the--" started Raine,
"Just come on! Hurry everybody!" you urge, Raine sighed,
"I wanted to study it more..." you three run to the front of the ruin, then you all head back into town before the Mayor could scream at you too much.
"Who were those two?" asked Genis curiously, "I wonder why they wanted to destroy the ruin?"
"Yes, the ruin! We must keep them from engaging in such foolish acts as destroying a ruin! Let's go Lloyd! Aura, you too!" Raine exclaimed, pointing at you. Seeming to remember something, the red-clad teen looked to you,
"Hey, Aura." Lloyd asked,
"Yeah?"
"How did you do that?"
"Do what?" asked Colette
"Hear those guys. You heard the mayor and the others coming up the steps, on the other side of the ruin, before anyone else did." first all eyes were on Lloyd with surprise, then the eyes shifted to you,
"Oh well...I-I don't know...I just did..." you respond uneasily. After the uneasiness passed, you began searching around the city, knocking on doors and talking to people in the streets about 'Harley' and 'Linar'.

Youve checked most houses and talked to a healthy part of Asguards population.
"Man...We are NEVER going to find them..." Lloyd groaned, after giving him a weak smile you knock on another door, and a woman answers,
"Hello," she greeted. Before you could even respond she asked, "Please come in. Your friends too."
"Um...thank you." you all walk inside and there were Harley and Linar,
"You're those tourists from earlier!" Harley exclaimed,
"Tourist...?" you repeated curiously.
"I am a scholar." Raine corrected angrily,
"Whatever. Get out!" he ordered
"Harley, stop it. This is my house." the woman ordered. She turned back towards you, "I understand that you were the ones that stopped Harley and my brother. Thank you."
"I'm not sure 'stopped' is the best way to put it." Lloyd muttered,
"They got in our way." Harley growled.
"It doesn't matter what you call it. The point is the people of this city are the ones that would suffer if that ruin was destroyed."
"But as things are now, you're going to be sacrificed!" Linar argued,
"Sacrificed?" asked Colette,
"It's a ritual in honor of the Summon Spirit of Wind. Aisha was chosen for it. Originally, the ritual consisted of just dancing on the stone platform, but--" started Linar, then Harley came in,
"This idiot started meddling with the stone dais as a part of his research and opened the seal. Because of that, that Summon Spirit of Wind-thing awoke and is demanding sacrifices."
"The seal? Do you mean..." Colette asked,
"What?! The seal?" Linar asked,
"Yes! If you, too, are researching the Balacruf ruins, then you must be aware of the altar erected in praise of the Summon Spirit of Wind. The seal really existed, just as the legends said!" Raine said
"Are you saying that the Balacruf Pillar hieroglyphics are not just a myth?!" asked Linar
"It sounds like this isn't the seal we're looking for." Kratos commented,
"Raine... Aren't you forgetting why we're on this journey?" asked Genis,
"Well, its all right... it's not as if it's completely out of our way."
"Yes! In the back of the platform there is a small indentation, and-" Linar started again
"That's enough! Aisha's about to be sacrificed to the Summon Spirit tonight! No get out of here!" Harley almost yelled, you all left,
"She's going to be sacrificed...?" you mutter, then you head back up the steps to the dais to try and find the monster who was supposed to guard the seal,
"You're the ones that went up on the dais." said the mayor, he and two others were in the way,
"I am a scholar. May I please have your permission to study this ruin?" Raine asked,
"There's an idiot just like you in this city already. Thanks to him, the city's tourism industry is on the verge of collapse. I refuse." the mayor responded,
"What are you talking about?" asked Lloyd
"If you want to know, try asking Linar."
"If you're talking about the sacrifice, we've already heard about it." Raine told him
"Then you should understand. We can't allow anyone to disturb the dais any further and risk bringing down the wrath of the Summon Spirit of Wind. The only one who may step upon this stage is the Summon Spirit dancer." the mayor said
"Then I shall become the dancer. Then it would be fine for me to go up on the stage, yes?" asked Raine,
"Professor!" you exclaim
"This may be our next seal. If we can meet the Summon Spirit, we should be able to tell. The sacrifice that it seeks might even be the Chosen of Mana." Raine responded.
"... I see! That's our Professor!" Lloyd said
"You just want to study the ruins firsthand." muttered Genis, and Raine smacked him over the head,
"You should learn to keep your mouth shut, Genis." Lloyd told him,
"Please, mayor." Raine asked.
"...Do as you wish. I won't be held responsible if it costs you your life." he agreed,
"We should tell Ashia that she is no longer the sacrifice." Kratos suggested.
"Then let's go back to her house." Colette agreed with a nod.

After returning to Ashia's house you told her the news.
"It's not right for you to take my place..." Ashia told Raine.
"There's nothing to worry about." she responded confidently
"Raine, are you sure you're going to be okay?" asked Colette worriedly,
"Yes. Now, it's time I changed clothes. Would you mind?" you all leave the house as she instructed.
"Let's go wait at the Dias." Genis suggested.
"I hope Raine will be alright..." you comment quietly after making it up to the Dias. A few people had gathered to watch the dance, though they stayed away from the edge of the stone Dias. After a few minutes, Raine comes to the dais. She does a long dance on the platform, sparks of mana occasionally flying into the air. After completing her dance she kneeled down on the Dias, as if in prayer. In a whirlwind a monster appeared,
"I have come for the girl." it announced,
"It's not... No, Professor!" Colette exclaimed,
"That's an evil creature. It's not the guardian of the Seal!" you say, Lloyd jumped on the dais and drew his sword; you follow him, turning your sword into the naginata. Everyone else was quick to follow after you.
Despite the close ranger of fighting and the monsters wind ability, the battle was won with no extreme damage done to you or any of your friends. After it fell dead it disappeared in a few more sparkles of mana.

After getting off of the Dias Linar and Harley rushed to you,
"Fantastic! You were fantastic, Raine!" Harley complemented
"Hah. It was hardly a challenging opponent. Now, more importantly, about that stone tablet you acquired... This stone tablet has ancient Balacruf writing inscribed on it..." she asked,
"Let's decipher it right away! I have the necessary materials assembled in my house." Linar said
"Yes, let's go!" then they both head back to Linar's house.
"Umm... thank you." Harley said reluctantly,
"That thing wasnt the Summon Spirit of Wind after all, was it?" asked Colette in a sigh,
"No..." you respond,
"I bet Raine and Linar will investigate what it really was." Genis said with a nod,
"Yeah, she's a half elf; you can rely on her skills." Harley agreed
"No! My sister and I are pure elves!" Genis argued abruptly,
"Come on you wouldn't think i wouldnt recognize one of my own..." when Genis looked down Harley cut himself off, "Um...m-my mistake, it seems you and your sister are indeed pure blood elves." Lloyd rested a hand on Genis' shoulder,
"Lets get back to the inn." he said, you all just nod in agreement.
