Tales of Symphonia Story 43

QUIZ START: You woke around midnight, finding that you weren't very tired, despite the fact that the rest was welcome after everything you guys had been through. You look up at the sky, the night sky was beautiful, like it always was, and filled with stars. A soft song moved through your head, it sounded like a nice song... You begin to sing softly,
"Come stop your crying...
It'll be alright...
Just take my hand.
Hold it tight...
I will protect you from...all around you.
I will be here don't you cry..."

Kratos was fast asleep, when soft singing gently tugged him from his rest. The singing was...familiar, his eyes opened as the melody filled his ears; he watched the ashes of the fire from where he was lying on his side, and listened. That singing... It was singing he hadn't heard in a long time.
"Come stop your crying...
It'll be alright...
Just take my hand.
Hold it tight...
I will protect you from...all around you.
I will be here don't you cry..."
Aura's voice was beautiful when she was singing, it always had been. Kratos sighed quietly, and allowed his eyes to close as he listened to her, although he tried not to go to sleep. He stayed as silent and as still as he could, not wanting to interrupt the song that he had so longed to hear for the longest time... "For one so small... you seem so strong.
My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm...
This bond between us, can't be broken...
I will be here don't you cry......."
her voice trailed off. The Mercenary had almost fallen asleep, but he forced his eyes to open, and he sat up slowly,
"Kratos--!!"

WITH YOU: You finished your song. When Kratos sat up
"Kratos--!!" you squeak, blushing a little. You thought he was sleeping. His expression softened a little at your shock and embarrassment,
"...Was that you singing?" he asked.
"Y-yes." you admit, nodding slightly, although you were still blushing a little. "Why?" he shrugged his shoulders.
"...I was just wondering."
"D-did I wake you?" you asked nervously
"...You almost put me back to sleep as well." Kratos told you softly, meaning that as a compliment. A little smile spread across your lips, as a small giggle escaped you,
"...I'll take that as a compliment..." when you notice Lloyd sleeping too, he was supposed to be night watch now. You smile just slightly, while looking back at the sky.
"...You should go back to sleep." Kratos told you, resuming his earlier position of lying on the ground. Singing that Lullaby had made you tired feel tired as well, so you were willing to comply. After lying down, you pull the blanket higher over your shoulders, shifting your head into a more comfortable position on the book you were using as a pillow, and drift off to sleep once again.

You wake up early the next morning. The Professor was already up, and she took full advantage of the time to continue lecturing you on healing. After a while...
"Alright. Does that make sense?" she asked
"For the most-part, yeah." you say, nodding "But I'll need to try it out in battle."
"Alright. You said you knew 'Nurse'?"
"Yeah but I havnt really used it in battle before. Just that 1 time at the Fire Temple and..." you trail off,
"You had trouble concentrating? So it wasn't as effective?"
"Yeah. It was a lot better the first time I used it outside of the Martel Temple. I hope that I'll be able to do it better now."
"Thats good, but you should start a little smaller. Try casting First-Aid during battle a few times before you try casting Nurse." you nod
"Good idea. Thanks professor."
"Also...about your concentration."
"Huh?"
"Is that also why you never cast spells during battle?" you look down at the ground.
"Yeah. And I don't know very many spells either. Basically, the only attack spell I know is Fireball."
"Well, I don't know very many attack spells either. So I can't be much help there. Perhaps Kratos could teach you?" you cheeks turn a light shade of pink when she mentioned the Mercenary.
"Well. Um...maybe..." you mutter. Raine looked slightly confused by your reaction to his name.
"Aura? Is something wrong? You blushed when I mentioned Kratos." a drop of sweat slunk down the back of your head,
"Uh, Nothing! Nothing, don't worry about it-- Everything is fine...!" you say. She raised an eyebrow at your obvious lie, but agreed,
"Alright..."
"Wait. What about Genis?" you ask. Genis' main attack from was magic, after all.
"Yes well, Genis probably won't be able to teach you Magic Defense. And also, Kratos will be able to help you strengthen your physical attacks." you realize just how right she was.

Genis was a good magic user. But enemies normally didn't go after him. So he probably wouldn't be able to know how to defend from magic attacks. And...your sword/ staff+ sword fighting could use a little work.

Later on, you all set out. And soon after you get in a battle. Midway during the fight it looks like Colette needs help
"Aura. Try using First-Aid now." Professor Sage told you. You nod, and begin to chant the spell, doing your best to ignore the fight going on around you, and concentrating as best you could. After a short time you exclaim "First-Aid!!!" A small green ball flies from your hand to Colette, and she is healed (well, not fully. just more than she was) She smiled at you, like as a way of saying 'thank you' and the fight continues.
You only use physical attacks. You almost fear using Fireball, scared that it might hit 1 of your friends. You hear Kratos murmuring something as you fight, a little while later he exclaimed,
"Lightening!!!" 3 purple lightening bolts simultaneously fall from the sky and strike a monster, killing it. The Mercenary began to cast another spell, when a demon started to attack him, you jump in the way, while mumbling something. Then you exclaim,
"Reflector!!!" the attack itself bounced off harmlessly. He finished his spell
"Fireball!!" the last demon is finished. "Thank you, Aura." he told you, after the battle was over. You smile softly
"Of course." While walking away...
"Aura. Thank you for healing me during the fight." Colette told you.
"Of course." you respond with a small smile. "It was Professor Raine who taught me."

You noticed that Raine had been talking to Kratos during the walk though. While talking Raine made some gestures with her hands, sometimes motioning to you. Kratos would nod to some things that she said, and sometimes speak as well *Wonder what their talking about...wait, idiot!* you think *Raine told me already. 'Spell/sword tutorial'* When you got closer to the dock,
Kratos spoke to you,
"Aura."
"Yes?"
"Raine has spoken with me, and she wants me to train you. She's asked me to help you learn to use magic attacks in battle, and train your physical attacks better. I would be willing to train you, if you wish."
"Really?" you ask, "Oh, thanks, Kratos. I appreciate the help."
"...I would like to start training at the Thoda Boat Dock. If we reach it with enough time. Is that alright with you?" you nod.
"Okay."
"Good." then you continue the walk towards the dock

After about 2 more hours; you make it to the Thoda Boat Dock. You were sitting in the grass behind the building, looking at the mountains, waiting for Kratos. He had already talked to you about having your first lesson now. When your unusually good hearing picked up footsteps walking around the building, the noise muffled slightly by the grass. Soon the person appeared, it was Kratos.
"Are you ready?" he asked. You nod
"Yeah."
"Well then, lets begin."
