Thirteen
Thursday came just as quickly as it left, leaving us Friday, the last day of the week and the beginning of the weekend. It was a slow Friday, which left me searching the web, trying to catch up on what was happening in America, mainly California.
Gerard came out of his office and walked over to my desk, "Grab your purse, were going to go eat."
I minimized the web and looked up at him, "What?"
He sighed, "Supposedly my family hasn't gotten together in a while so there's a Butler brunch scheduled for this morning."
"A what?"
"Brunch. Late breakfast, early lunch--"
"I know what it means!"
"Then why did you ask?" He shot back.
I rolled my eyes, "Can't you go by yourself? I mean, it is a Butler thing and last time I checked, I'm a Chapman."
He nodded, "Yes. But I'm inviting you to get me though it sanely."
"No," I answered shaking my head. "Invitation denied."
"Oh, c'mon."
"No, it'll be too awkward. And besides, I don't know your family and technically, I don't need to know your family because, you know, I'm just your assistant and--"
"Exactly! You're my assistant so I need you to assist me to this brunch. Now lets go."
I rolled my eyes, grabbed my purse and complained all the way to the limo. Miguel opened the the door to the limo for me but I hesitated.
"Well?" Gerard urged gesturing for me to get in first.
Memories of what Gerard and I did last time we were in the back of this limo started making it's way into my mind and I couldn't help but smile. I looked around to search for someone close, "Is there a pedestrian you can pay to tag along for the ride?" I asked, my eyes landing on Gerard.
He smiled back at me and rolled his eyes, "I won't try anything, I promise." He reassured.
I climbed into the limo and part of me wished he would try something on me. But he didn't. He kept his word throughout the half-hour ride and didn't even touch me except for our thighs brushing up against each other every now and then from sitting so close.
Once we got to Gerard's moms cottage, I climbed out of the limo, not waiting for Miguel to open the door. "This place is beautiful."
Gerard climbed out after me and lead the way up to the front door where a fancy looking cross was hanging on the door with the words, Erin Go Bragh. I've seen the cross plenty of times here in Ireland, but I never knew what it actually meant. "What's that?" I asked as he opened the front door and just walked right in.
"What's what?"
"That cross on the door." I asked nodding towards the cross on the door as I passed it.
He pulled out a matching silver pendant he was wearing from under his shirt, "It's a Celtic Cross. An Irish heritage." He informed, stuffing his necklace back under his dress shirt.
"And what about Erin Go Bragh?" I asked, reading the words off the Celtic Cross hanging on the front door. "What does that mean?"
Gerard closed the door and then stepped behind me to take my coat off, "Erin Go Bragh." He corrected, pronouncing it differently. "It's a phrase meaning Ireland Forever. An Irish blessing, basically." He explained.
A man resembling Gerard came in from the other room, "No, mum," He called over his shoulder, "It's just Gerry!"
I love when people call him Gerry. Its just so cute.
"Just Gerry my arse." They both chuckled and greeted one another with a 'manly' hug.
The man sent a smile my way which I politely returned, "Who's your date?" He asked Gerard.
"I'm not--- I'm his assistant." I corrected.
"Wes, this is my assistant, Harmony." Gerard introduced, gesturing towards me. "Harmony, this is my youngest brother, Wes."
Wes took a step towards me and I noticed his eyes were the color of Gerards, a grayish green. "Harmony, you are beautiful. Gerry's lucky to see you every day." Wes complimented with a wink, making me blush.
I smile when I get nervous so that's what I did, I smiled, "Thank you."
"Wes!" Gerard interrupted, "Why don't you help Harmony with her bags, right outside." he suggested. I was about to object to which I didn't bring any bags but Gerard placed his hand on the small of my back and lead me into the other room which was the dining room.
The dining room had a nice big oak dining table in the middle of the room which the plates and silverware were already set with a bowl of real fruit in the center of the table.
"Gerry, is that you?" A middle-aged woman came into the dining room holding a plate of bacon. She stopped when she saw me, "Oh, hello..." She smiled and glanced at Gerard for an explanation. I can't believe he didn't warn his family that he was bringing me. I feel so awkward!
"Mum, this is Harmony, my assistant."
"What happened to Janet?" She asked as she passed us to place the plate of bacon on the table.
"She retired, mum."
"Ah, that's too bad. I liked Janet."
"Mum, your rudeness." He objected.
She looked back at Gerard, "What? I'm just sayin I liked Janet and I'm sad to see her go, is all. But, anyways, she's gone," She looked at me and smiled, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Harmony. I'll bring another plate out and we'll make room for you at the table, sweetie."
"Thank you." I told her right before she returned to the kitchen.
Gerard sighed, "Sorry 'bout that."
"You didn't tell anyone I was coming?" I confronted him, shaking my head.
"It was a last minute thing. I didn't even know if I was coming." He defended.
"You don't talk to your mother often, do you?" I asked as he lead me to a different room which resembled a living room... but smaller.
"Why do you ask?" He followed me to the wall where old pictures were nicely assembled on the wall.
I turned back to him, "Gerry, how long have I been your assistant?"
"I keep my professional life to myself because, simply, she just doesn't care."
"But your grandmother does?"
"I have her to thank for this career." I raised my eyebrows, interested and he knew what I was about to ask. "She was a successful Editor-in-Chief who retired young but kept in the business."
"Well, I'm gonna have to thank her for getting me a job too."
We heard a car pull up in front, "There's Stephen, my other brother." He told me before we made our way outside to greet him. But Stephen was not alone. Once we stepped outside, a redheaded girl with long pale legs stepped out of the vehicle and that's when I recognized it was Tabitha! The girl who stopped by to see Gerard earlier this week! Why is she here! Gerard greeted his older brother the same way he greeted his younger brother. He then turned to me for introductions, "Stephen, this is my assistant, Harmony."
"Harmony, very nice to meet you." Stephen held out his hand and I gave it a weak shake.
"Nice to meet you too."
"What part of America you from?"
"California."
"Ah, I bet it's a lot different than Ireland, huh?"
I nodded, "Oh, yeah."
"You're the first person I met named Harmony. It's a beautiful name, suits you well."
Again, I blushed, "Thank you. I'm not use to getting so many compliments." I looked up at Gerard when I said this and playfully hit him on his shoulder.
"Harmony, this is my wife, Tabitha." Stephen introduced. Did he just say wife? My jaw dropped a little as it all started making sense.
"Hello again." She greeted all bubbly.
"Again?" Stephen asked curious.
Tabitha answered, "Yes. When I went to see Gerard for our anniversary plans, remember?"
He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him, "Oh, of course."
Tabitha looked back at me, "I met Harmony there as I waited for him for the longest time."
"Yes, well, I am a hard man to get a hold of." Gerard sounded pleased as I secretly rolled my eyes.
"C'mon, honey, I'm starving." Tabitha said as she dragged Stephen inside.
Gerard started to follow them but I grabbed his arm to stop him and pulled him back, "Your sister-in-law?" I growled, "You made me think you were having sex with you sister-in-law!"
He shook his head, "No, you just assumed--"
"But you didn't set me straight!"
He smiled, "You're cute when your jealous, I couldn't help myself." he winked.
I rolled my eyes and hit him softly on the shoulder again, "I couldn't help myself." I mocked in my lame Irish imitation of Gerard as I walked up to the cottage.
Gerard followed me, "And I do too give you compliments."
I stopped and turned to him, crossing my arms over my chest, "No, you don't."
He furrowed his eyebrows, "What are you talking about? I tell you, you have a nice arse every day." He joked smiling.
"Shut up!" I told him, playfully hitting him again on the chest.
"Geez, what am I, a punching bag today?"
"I did promise you I was gonna kick your ass." I started playfully slapping him in the chest which was, might I add, hard and muscular which made me smile even wider.
"Hate to brake it to you, Chapman, but you punch like a sissy girl."
I laughed at the name calling, him knowing I don't like to be categorized by my sex. "I am a girl. What's your excuse?"
"Gerry!" His mum came to the open door and called for us, "Lets go you two, foods ready!"
Gerard came out of his office and walked over to my desk, "Grab your purse, were going to go eat."

"Will you get the wrong idea if I asked you to dance?"
"And what idea would that be?"
"That asking you to dance is just a skeem to get you in bed."
"Yes, I do have that wrong idea... and yes I will dance with you." I told him before grabbing his hand and leading him to the dance floor away from Magee and Erin.
