‹ Prequel: Run Away With My Heart

Hear Your Heart

14: I Think I Can Manage That

“So, she kissed you” Sergio noted as he moved to get changed following training. It had been a long morning, Sergio had spent more than an hour trying to get some sort of detail out of Iker regarding the date that he had taken Olivia on, but the keeper seemed keen to keep it close to his chest, something which had started to irk the defender.

Iker nodded his head. “I was explaining that I wanted another chance with her and then she got up, sat in my lap, and kissed me before she told me to call her. I don’t quite know if I was successful in convincing her that I wasn’t the worst guy in the world, but I think I did” he explained. He was still unsure, Olivia’s actions, as forwards as they were, had left him a little stumped and he was sort of hoping that Sergio could offer some sort of insight. He wanted to see her again, to hold her and to tell her that he loved her, but he didn’t want to scare her off and make things worse again. He just wanted to make things better.

“She said to call her?” Sergio posed, pulling his jeans back on.

Iker nodded. “It was the last thing she said” he confirmed.

“Then why don’t you just do it? She gave you an open invitation, Iker, she told you to call, so call her. From what she was saying last night, she and Thiago were planning on a quiet day in, perhaps she would invite you to spend time alone with them” the defender suggested with a shrug.

“Or she could accuse me of being overbearing” Iker returned.

“You are overbearing” Sergio noted “It’s part of your charm” he added with a grin that made Iker roll his eyes.

“That’s not encouraging me, Sergio” he noted.

“Iker, Oli clearly enjoyed herself last night, she kissed you. If that isn’t the first indication that she might be prepared to move on with you then I don’t quite know what is. Stop getting into your own head and just go for it, hombre” the defender smiled as he pulled his bag onto his shoulder “This could be the first step to getting everything you ever wanted” he added before he patted Iker’s shoulder and made his way out of the room.

The keeper watched after him and shook his head lightly before he moved to collect his phone from his locker, knowing that Sergio was probably right.

“I didn’t think I would be seeing you two days in a row” Olivia commented as she stood at the door of her apartment, her blue eyes peering shyly at Iker. She had been surprised, part of her had expected that Iker would wait a small while before calling her, but she couldn’t deny that she was at least a little pleased to see him. Just thinking about the night before had made her smile and that was a feeling she knew only he could stir.

“I didn’t think I would be either” Iker commented gently “But then I thought about last night and I decided to call. I can go if you’d rather” he noted, a little fear in his voice that he had overstepped some sort of mark.

Olivia shook her head. “It’s not a bad thing to be seeing you, Iker” she commented softly “I just know you. I figured you’d take your time” she explained, allowing him through the door.

“I thought about it” he noted.

Olivia shook her head. “Why are you here, Iker?” she posed softly.

“I want to ask you something” he replied softly as he wandered over towards the lounge, smiling slightly at the sight of their son who snoozed happily in the bouncer that Olivia had left him in. “He clearly loves that” he mused, admiring the way in which his nose gently twitched as he snuffled.

Olivia nodded. “Callie and Jacob bought it for him a few weeks ago. Since then, it is almost the only way he will fall asleep” she noted.

“Almost the only way?” Iker posed.

“He falls asleep with you, Iker, and you know it too” Olivia commented with a grin.

Iker admired the smile on her face, noting just how beautiful it still was, before he stepped towards her, leaning down to kiss her softly. He didn’t know what possessed him to do it, there was still a chance that Olivia didn’t want a thing to do with him, but he couldn’t resist. Just being in the same room as her gave him butterflies. Olivia startled at first, not sure what to do, but after a few seconds, she warmed to it, settling her hands on his shoulder. “What did you want to ask, Iker?” she murmured as they pulled back slightly, trying to catch their breath.

“Do I still have a chance with you?” the keeper returned, moving to rest his forehead against hers.

Olivia blinked. She had been expecting a more subtle question.

“I thought that last night went well and when you kissed me, I was sure that things would be OK, but you never said that they would be and I don’t want to get ahead of myself and start thinking that we have a chance when we don’t, so I came here to ask…” Olivia leant up and kissed him gently, stopping the words on the tip of his tongue.

“Firstly, you need to stop rambling” she murmured as she gently pulled away from him “You speak at a hundred miles an hour when you get going and it makes the words awfully hard to comprehend” she noted, the softest hint of a grin on her lips “And secondly, that kiss I gave you last night, that was my way of saying that there might be some sort of hope for us. I am not saying that we’re going to miraculously go back to what we were before ‘the incident’ but I think we both know that there is something still here, something unfinished. Iker, I want to give you that chance, but we’re doing it on my terms and not yours. Does that sound like something you can manage?” she posed gently, her hands shyly playing with the material of the shirt she wore.

Iker stared at her for a second before he nodded his head gently. “I think I can manage that, Oli, if it means that I still get to have you” he mused with a little smile that made Olivia’s heart flip softly. Smiling back at him, she pressed a light kiss to his cheek, hoping that they could find a way to make things feel like they had before.
