‹ Prequel: Run Away With My Heart

Hear Your Heart

46: Last Time I Checked

Scratching the back of his neck, Iker padded into the kitchen, his brown eyes instantly landing on his wife who stood at the counter, fixing breakfast for the small family. It had been a little while, Catalina had been born almost a month previous and Iker was pleased to see that things had settled into a little routine. It had taken some adaptation, with Catalina around, the couple had had to deal with Thiago throwing little strops, but Iker liked the way things were. They were settled, comfortable, and Iker couldn’t help but notice how happy he felt. He loved being around his little family and even if they were in LA as opposed to Madrid which he still referred to as his home, he adored the way things had panned out for them, something which made it feel as though it had been years since the incident with Delilah.

“You know” Oliva murmured, listening to his footsteps on the tiled kitchen floor “Once and a while, it would not kill you to get out of bed before me. I know you have training and everything, but…”

“Buenos dias to you too, Oli” Iker interjected as he padded over to her, wrapping his arms around her waist and placing a kiss to the skin which had been left exposed by her vest top.

Olivia rolled her eyes gently. “Would it kill you to get up first one morning?” she posed softly as she turned to face him, placing a little kiss on his lips.

“Possibly” he teased gently.

Olivia shook her head, but spluttered out a little laugh, something which made him grin. “Your laugh is adorable” he quipped gently.

“And you’re oddly affectionate for half past 7 in the morning” she returned smartly.

“Can you blame me?” he posed “My wife is looking wonderful and in a few minutes, I will see my two beautiful children. Can’t that put me in a good mood?” he posed, his hands subtly sneaking beneath the hem of her vest top, resting against her warm skin.

Olivia shook her head. “You’re an odd man” she murmured.

“Perhaps” he shrugged.

Olivia giggled gently before Catalina’s cries echoed, sparking Thiago’s shouts. “Which one do you want to take?” she posed, unwinding herself from Iker’s arms.

“I’ll take Lina, Thiago prefers you” Iker quipped “But first” he mused as he stepped towards her, capturing her in a kiss that drew a smile onto her face. “Buenos dias, querida” he murmured before he made his way up the stairs towards their daughter’s room.

Resting against her car, Olivia pushed her sunglasses up onto her forehead, her blue eyes scanning the carpark. It was a surprise, Iker had got a lift with a teammate that morning, and Olivia couldn’t resist the chance to surprise him. It was odd, the way that their relationship was, but she liked it. They were happy, happier than Olivia could recall them being, and she wanted to keep things like that. With two children in the frame and a marriage, the last thing she wanted, or needed, was anyone getting in the way. She didn’t want their dynamic to change.

“Olivia?”

Olivia, who had been staring into the distance, jumped a little and turned her head, her eyes landing on Riley who jogged up towards her. “Riley” she squeaked.

“It has been ages” the coach mused “I hear that you and Iker had a second baby” he added, peeking through the slightly opened car window towards the little girl who, like her older brother, was sleeping soundly in her car seat.

Olivia nodded her head, sparing the politest smile she could muster. “We did. A little girl” she returned politely.

Riley nodded his head. “I bet she is beautiful like her mother” he commented with a grin.

“She’s a beautiful little girl, but like Thiago, I think she takes more after her papa than she does me” she rambled. She didn’t like it, being around Riley was something which was bound to irk Iker and she didn’t want it. She liked where they were, it was comfortable and happy, and something as simple as her having a conversation with a man who Iker had specifically warned her off was bound to irk him. The keeper did have a jealous side and it was bound to be set off by Riley.

Riley scoffed. “They get their looks from you, quite clearly” he mused, gesturing to the two children.

Olivia shook her head. “They look like Iker” she refuted softly.

Riley frowned. “Is everything alright here, Oli?” he posed.

“It’s fine” Olivia replied quickly “I just would rather wait for Iker in peace” she noted, trying not to be rude.

Riley frowned. “Have I done something wrong?” he posed.

Olivia shook her head. “Not at all, Riley. It’s just…”

“I don’t like strange men near my wife” Iker interjected, stepping up beside the brunette.

“Wife?” Riley posed “She’s your wife?” he posed.

Iker nodded his head. “She is and the reason she is trying get rid of you right now is because I have a tendency to get a little jealous. But she’s too polite to admit it” he noted stiffly.

Riley frowned. “Do you think I am trying to make a move on her?” he posed.

Iker shrugged. “I don’t know, but I know I don’t like the way you’re looking at her” he mused.

Riley opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by Olivia who shook her head. “Riley, please” she murmured.

The coach shook his head. “Whatever” he muttered “I thought you were capable of making your choices, but whatever” he muttered before he stalked off, leaving the couple alone.

Olivia watched him go before she sighed gently. “Iker…”

“I told you about him” the keeper interjected.

“He was just talking to me” Olivia replied, her voice a little sharp “And the last time I checked, you don’t get to make the call about who I talk to and who I don’t” she added before she pulled the car door open, climbing inside and pulling it closed with an audible thump.

Iker watched her and shook his head before he let out a sigh, knowing that they had to have another conversation that he wasn’t going to enjoy.
