Running

First and Last

Grunting, heaving, and sweat prickling from his brows he dodged every
obstacle. He sprang from every fall. Heavy footsteps rapidly approaching him as
he hobbled, desperately trying to find a balance between his limbs. A balance he
wished he could find in his life. Where had it all gone wrong? What had he ever
done to deserve this twist of fate? There was no time to think, no time to
breathe. Inhaling minuscule amounts of oxygen he wished it would kill him before
the footsteps got any closer. Exhaling large amounts of oxygen he wished he
could restart his life. He wished he could go back to that god forsaken day and
change everything. Of course life doesn't work that way. So he ran and ran until
he could no more. Reaching a dead end he placed his back against the cold
unforgiving wall and closed his eyes. Soon enough darkness enveloped him as the
curtains of his eyes slowly came to a close. The footsteps got louder then
suddenly stopped. Painstakingly slow he opened his brown orbs and looked ahead.
There they were, the root of all his problems looking him dead in the eyes.
"Why did I ever take up babysitting?" He sighed. "I should have stayed in law
school."
