Mitchum and Me

Prologue

CALLUX
Looking at her hurt.

Staring at her hurt.

I grimace at her hair and the way it is tousled up into an unflattering updo. Her eyes are deep and dark, making her look like she is standing on three hours of sleep. The girl's smile is crooked along the gaps she calls teeth. Her dress is classy but too classy. Too much glitter.

"Callux, Mom's looking for you," Mitchum says, interrupting my thoughts. I glance to the right one last time, checking on my fair lady before walking out of the main hallway.

God, looking at her hurt.

JANIYA
Dreams are not meaningless but they do not apply to anything meaningful in our everyday lives.

Didn’t your mother teach you to never stare at strangers?

Dreams are a form of wishful thoughts or thinking.

His mama surely didn’t teach her kid right.

Dreams have two contents; manifest and latent.

Pulling my attention away from the review I had in my head, I hear Mom calling my name from the host’s kitchen. God, why did the exam have to be so soon? God, why did I have to be out rather than preparing for my midterm. God, why am I here?

Why was Freud such a weirdo?
