Got Your Number

Got Your Number

Her blue-green eyes were what he had noticed about her first – what had captivated him.

To put it simply, they were unreal. Their depth and differentiating hues were entrancing, and for most of their meeting he found himself staring into them (and hoping that she wouldn't think of him gazing so intensely at them as weird and believe him to be a creep). Her fair, pale skin – that he noticed was baby soft when he had shaken her hand – gave her an angelic ambient glow, and her midnight black hair that fell down past her shoulders in styled waves made his fingers feel the need to run through her tresses. He found her short height cute, and that adorable side of her was only amplified by the timid nature she exhibited.

As his cell phone buzzed violently with a new text from JB, telling him they'd be late for their variety show recording if he didn't hurry up, he inwardly cursed their leader for his impeccable timing. Of course it was right now when he'd have to get going and head back to his work...

He had to have made some sort of annoyed expression as he heard her voice speak up. “Gotta go?” She inquired, those eyes of hers blinking once or twice curiously, letting his train of thought go awry and elsewhere.

“Uhh...” he mumbled, soon realizing what an idiot he was being and snapping out of his loony state with a bit of difficulty. “Yeah. Are you sure you're okay?” He asked, referring back to how they had come to meet in the beginning. Jackson still couldn't believe how much of a blockhead he had been by bumping into her in the middle of the sidewalk and making her drop all her belongings. However, it was that same moronic nature that had allowed him to meet her, and for that, he had to admit he was a bit grateful – proud even – to have bumped into her because of it.

As she nodded her head, her dark locks of hair swayed with the motion, her smooth voice answering, “I'm fine. Are you?”

He grinned, nodding back eagerly, “Same here.”

As the conversation seemed to die off, she smiled shyly. “It was nice meeting you, though...” she looked at him expectantly, silently asking him for his name.

“Jackson,” he answered immediately. “And your name is...?”

“Jade,” she beamed a small smile in his direction.

“Jade,” he said her name that seemed to remind him of the unusual green in her eyes and found it rolled off his tongue easily, causing him to smile, “it was nice meeting you, too.”

She sent a fleeting smile his way, mouthing a goodbye and giving a small wave, continuing on her way down the street. Jackson was left there for a moment, standing right where she had left him. With her now gone, the area seemed lonely and not as bright. The fact that he could actually feel something was off without her being there made him anxious. Was he really going to let her go just like that...?

“Jade!”

No, he wasn't.

Running up to the surprised young woman who was now almost to the end of the block, drawing the curious attention of the people around them – not that he cared, he gave her a sheepish smile and scratched the back of his head. “Would... would you mind if I got your number?”

A light tint of pink covered her cheeks, and seeing her grow embarrassed somehow did the same to him, a bit of warmth seeping into his own as he waited for her answer.

“I'd like that.”

A sigh that he wasn't even aware that he was holding in escaped him from relief, Jackson's hand snatching his phone from the depths of his pockets – which now had multiple texts from GOT7's leader that made him aware that he was in for it when he reunited with the guys – and saving her digits into his contacts as she did the same with his.

“I've gotta go,” he hurriedly told her, stuffing his phone back into his pants, “but I'll text you later, Jade!”

In an instant, Jackson's long legs were carrying him off in the fastest sprint of his life. He could already hear JB and his manager giving him an earful, but knowing that Jade's number was in his contact list made it worth it.

Just like that, Jackson knew he was completely infatuated. Jackson was completely enamored with Jade.

She was on a month-long student exchange program and she had three weeks left till she would leave Korea – that was the first thing he had really found out about her.

There wasn't much time left. It may have seemed like a while for anyone else perhaps, but to Jackson, he knew it would go faster than anything else. With his busy idol schedules and commitments, there would hardly be any time left for him to spend talking with her. However, part of him thought this to be a good thing. If he didn't have the time to talk with her all that much, maybe he could push the few strong feelings he held for her to the back of his mind and make her soon departure less of a blow to himself.

The idea had gone out the window, though. He had forgotten all about it as soon as a conversation was developed between them, Jade's shining personality coming through each text he received and enchanting him further.

And when a schedule was suddenly canceled at the last minute, his fingers flew as he typed out a message to her, sending it urgently and awaiting her response.

Would you like to grab some coffee?
- Jackson

I'd love to grab some coffee with you. :)
- Jade

While sipping over their lattes, they continued to chat, Jackson asking more about her and she doing the same with him. They shared a laugh and the coffee had never tasted so sweet before to either of them.

Days slipped through their fingers, the texts never stopping and being exchanged constantly, but as the day of her departure neared, they both felt an anxiety well up within them that led to their texts slowly dying off.

The day of her flight back home, Jackson was in his bed, staring at the ceiling, unmotivated to do anything. Every night since exchanging numbers, they would wish each other good night and pick up back in the morning. However, Jackson hadn't received the usual text the previous night, and without it, he hadn't been able to fall asleep. It was so odd that she had come to have such an effect over him, so much so that he was left unable to function.

His phone briefly vibrated with a new text, his fingers hesitantly unlocking the screen once he saw it was from Jade.

Jackson, I've had so much fun these past few weeks. Thank you so much for everything. My flight leaves in about an hour. I know you're busy, but it would mean the world to me if you could meet me.
- Jade

He read the message a few more times, his body not moving from where he lay despite feeling the need to go to her. He couldn't. He had schedules to complete, and there was no getting out of it. I'm sorry, Jade.

Unceremoniously, the door to his room was opened, JB walking in with a sigh, “Jackson, wake up! We've got to get ready.”

“I'm up,” he groaned, sitting up at a lethargic pace and staring at the ground, “I'll be ready in a bit.”

“You okay, man?” JB couldn't help but question him, noting the change in his demeanor.

“Fine,” he mumbled.

“Yeah, right,” he rolled his eyes. “What's up? Don't make me bring the guys in here.”

He didn't respond, he only threw his phone into JB's hands, the leader of the group reading the last received text and looking to Jackson. “This is the girl who made you late that one time, right? The one who you've met for coffee and have goo-goo eyes over?”

“Shut up,” Jackson glared, throwing on some jeans and a t-shirt.

“Well, aren't you going?”

Jackson stopped getting ready, his eyes curiously glancing over at his band member. He had to be kidding. He had to be. “Don't be stupid. We've got a lot of shit to do today.”

“If you hurry, I'm sure you can make it in time for our first interview. It's up to you, though.”

It didn't take him long. Jackson's hands stole back his phone from JB, grabbing his wallet along the way as he darted out of the room and out of the dorms altogether.

“And he tells me not to be stupid,” JB chuckled.

Jackson caught the first taxi that he could, practically shouting that he needed to get to Incheon airport before he was even completely in the car. After much pleading, the cabbie sped through the traffic, but even with the good time they were making, Jackson wasn't sure if he would cut it.

While only a few minutes away, a new text was sent to his phone.

I had wanted to tell you something before I left, Jackson. I know you're busy so you probably can't come, so I'll just say it through this text so I won't regret not telling you. I've really come to like you... a lot. You're a great guy, and I love the way you make me laugh and I'll never forget it. Thank you.
- Jade

“Shit,” he cursed, running his hands through his hair anxiously.

As the taxi pulled up to the curb, Jackson shot out from the back and inside the building, looking around before heading towards the gate entrance. That was when he saw her familiar black hair and her short figure heading towards the doors.

“JADE!”

The name bounced off the walls and rung in everyone's ears, the girl he called spinning around immediately, his brown eyes meeting her unique blue-green pools and becoming lost in them once more like he had when they first met.

His feet carried him over to her at a jog, his eyes never leaving her form and engulfing her in a hug once he was by her side. “I made it in time,” he huffed out.

“You... you made it,” she mused softly in disbelief. “I thought you weren't coming.”

“I didn't think I was either, but... here I am,” he grinned. “Jade... I know you're leaving, but I don't want you to. I want to keep talking with you. I want to keep seeing you. Not just as friends anymore because... I like you a lot, too – a lot. Is that alright with you?”

She jumped up and kissed his lips briefly, nodding, “More than alright.”

Jackson leaned down, taking her lips back to meet his own, tasting and savoring her sweet, cherry lip gloss. The only thing that separated them was the announcement for Jade's plane beginning the boarding process.

“Aren't you glad I got your number that day?” Jackson smirked.

“Aren't you glad you kept looking at my eyes?” Jade retorted.

“You noticed I was staring?”

“How could I not? It was kind of unnerving,” she laughed.

“Well, if I'm answering your question,” he cleared his throat and smiled, “I'm very glad I was staring at your eyes.”

“Then I guess I'm glad you got my number that day, too.”
