Silence Falls
Chapter 20: Otep Shamaya
“WHAT THE FUCK!?” Bert screamed as he struggled to stand up as the elevator they were contained inside off shook and rattled as it made it’s fast decent down to certain death at the bottom of the elevator shaft. That ever so annoying loud screeching sound echoed around them even louder than before as rusted metal scraped across rusted metal.
Bam searched around him, clearly shaken and pale like the rest of his friends with one hand on the wall and the other on the floor, waiting to feel the floor cave smash into them. The thought truly scared the shit out of him and had him screaming out for dear life. “HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT, WE’RE GONNA FUCKING DIE, MAN! WE’RE GONNA FUCKING DIE!”
Cris squeezed his eyes shut, pressed his head and body against Bert’s thigh where he was currently sitting on the floor of the elevator, too wrapped up in terror to move elsewhere. “SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!!”
The only person at that time who was keeping his cool was the man who had nothing else to really lose. Bert. The speed it was taking them to fall screamed death to them all, but Bert wasn’t so sure for some weird reason…a reason he himself couldn’t comprehend at the same time. Why wasn’t he losing his mind right now like everyone else, he wondered to himself, why do I feel almost certain that everything was going to be fine?
Bam managed to lift himself up a bit, and decided to use what time he had left to close his eyes and think about his life in those last few seconds. April, his loving and devoted mother, that despite everything he’s done to her, loved him as real and strong as she did the moment he was born. That woman had a heart of pure gold, and it took Bam until now to realize it. Bam always tortured his parents with his messed up stunts and pranks, yet she never hated him for it. April not only cared about Bam, but also his late best friend, Ryan. Now, there was a best friend anyone could count on. Bam opened his blue eyes, remembering the day he found out his best friend died. Ryan was off in another place, Bam forgot where but it wasn’t in the same area as he was. Bam was off getting drunk with his buddies after a huge argument broke out between him and Missy over something completely stupid. Ryan had an accident, and he died alone by himself with no one to help him. Bam didn’t get the call right away until sometime that night after he stumbled outside and beat the shit out of a van belonging to the band that was currently playing that night at the venue he was attending with his friends. Bam didn’t really remember doing it, but he apparently did out of a drunken state. He finally came to when his brother was shaking him with tears in eyes. Bam knew, he knew then something was wrong, and that’s when he found out. Ryan had died in an accident. This wasn’t a story, or a movie, or a show that he could just rewind and start back to the beginning. No, it was reality. Ryan wouldn’t be there anymore tomorrow, wouldn’t answer his phone, wouldn’t be sleeping or hanging out at his house. No, he was dead…and I’m about to join him, Bam thought to himself as he closed his eyes in peace.
The elevator made a loud sound as it suddenly came to a hard stop, dragging the boys up off of their feet and bashing them up against the ceiling with groans of discomfort. Bert had been crouched in the corner before it stopped, causing him to shoot up the wall onto his back before falling back down on his butt. Cris was now on his side, clutching his stomach as he slowly drew himself up to a sitting position. Bam was flat on his stomach with fireworks of pain shooting through his head. The elevator was filled with groans of pain as they all struggled to stand up on their own two feet again. When the finally managed that, the elevator doors magically swooshed open to reveal the floor they were now on. Cris saw it first and immediately shot back, crawling as fast as he could towards the back of the elevator in fright as he cried out. “Oh my god, we’re in Silent Hill!!”
Bam gave him a puzzled look before turning his head to see for himself. His eyes widen in shock by how true Cris’s description was! “Dude, he’s fucking right!” He pointed a finger out past the elevator doors. “This place look just like the video games series!”
“I don’t think I’ve never been down here before…strange.” Bert mumbled to himself, completely ignoring their comparison to a video game he never played before as he rubbed his sore behind from where he stood in the corner.
“Can we please go back up?” Cris pleaded to Bert, as he rose to his feet to join the others in staring out at the creepy hallway before them.
“No, we have to find Otep first or else I’m not leaving this hell hole.” Bert ordered, before taking the first step in leaving the elevator. The long creepy floor they were on had terrible lighting, but from what little you could see this place definitely did look like Silent Hill had rampage through this place. The walls and floors were aged disgustingly, stained with some dark liquid only time could tell you what it once was. The hallway was filled with doors, but all of them were locked up by chains, and, thick 2x4s. Another disturbing observation Bert noticed was that the doors were melted shut, probably from a blow torch or something.
Bam took noticed of this too and made a comment on it. “Is there where the town hides their dark secret shit, or what?”
“I don’t know, but it’s weird that they put so much effort into making sure these doors never open again, don’t you think?” Bert questioned them as he led the way down the hall.
“Yeah, I mean what could they possibly hide here that this whole town doesn’t already know?” Cris murmured softly, looking at the paint on the walls that had peeled off in places.
“Now, I’m really curious!” Bam said sarcastically and glanced at a frightened Cris, deciding to tease him. “Wonder if they have other ways of getting in these rooms so we can find out what’s in them.”
“Hey guys, check this out!” Bert called from down the hall where he had stridden on ahead, pointing at a door that was few feet ahead of them. This door was actually pretty noticeable with its enormous size and thick metal material that it was a wonder how they didn’t’ see it before when the elevator doors opened. Bam and Cris hurried to make their way to Bert, seeing that the door he was pointing to had once been like all the others in terms of chained, boarded up, and even melted shut, but was somehow now unlocked. The 2x4s had been shattered into tiny wooden chips like a wood chipper had gotten to them. The much meavier and thick chains that looked like they were meant to hold down a monster the size of Godzilla were pooled around the side of the side of the door, and the perimeter of the door where metal had melt into metal was now cracked all the way around. Bert was staring at this monolith of a door in complete awe as he exclaimed to the others. “Can you believe the size of this door? I mean this has got to be biggest door I’ve ever seen in my entire life!”
“Yeah, you said it.” Bam couldn’t help but agree before staring at all the locking engagements that this door once shared with the other doors in this hallway. “And oddly enough it’s the only one not locked up like all the rest.”
“But perhaps the greatest thing about this is is that Otep could be inside!” Cris cheered on in joy, earning a nod from Bert before he placed his hands on the long handle bar that was the door knob and, began to pull with all of his strength. Unfortunately, the door knob wouldn’t budge.
“Need some help?” Bam asked, earning a grunt in response from Bert. Bam took his position next to him and rubbed his hands together before gripping the handle and pulling as hard as they could at the same time with Bert. After some time, the door screeched an open, but it was only a mere tiny inch. Bert and Bam had to take a breather after a few more tries, and in that time they each tried to peek in the cracked doorway to see what was on the other side, but they could only see darkness. Cris stepped up and placed his hands on the bar this time, nodding to his friends and he would help despite being the weakest. They nodded back in acceptance, and together they all pulled with all the strength they had left until each of their face turned red with the efforts. The door took pity on them and managed to screech open a little bit more with more ease then before. They all peeked into the room again as they took another breather and saw only darkness in the room despite the dim hallway lights spilling in through the crack. Soon, their eyes adjusted to the dark. A cool draft that smelled of blood blew through their hair softly as they decided to try and squeeze their way into the room, careful to take one step at a time. What they soon saw had them all stumbling back until they hit the wall in fright, the force knocking their breathes out of them.
Across the room was a huge cross that had been up against the wall with a human-size Jesus nailed on it that they had almost thought was a person lurking in the darkness. Their eyes adjusted more to the darkness to see that the reason they thought that to be so was because this Jesus had on the same clothes as they did, except his was dirtier with a black cross painted on his shirt that could’ve explained why the room smelled of blood. Studying at Jesus’ wrists, they discovered that they weren’t just nailed down, but thick heavy chains had been wrapped around them several times as if to make sure he wouldn’t escape. His head had a potato sack over it to conceal his face as well as a heavy black caged box on top of it that covered in chains that looked like were covered in barbed wires. His feet were also chained and nailed much like his wrists. The boys stood there for ages, staring in mute horror. This wasn’t a figure of Jesus Christ, was it, they all wondered to themselves, what’s with all the chains, and barb wires and such; could it be some kind of satanic ritual? “What-” Bert was beginning to say before an unknown hand slapped itself over his mouth, making him jump and slap how own hand over it. Cris and Bam jumped away in fright but were able to see that the hand belonged to a female. Bam could see she had light blonde hair around her shoulders, pale skin, pink lips, and dark murderous eyes.
Bert pulled the hand away and turned around to confirm his suspicion. “Otep!? Oh my god, I thought you were dead!” He through his arms around the girl and held her slender body tightly to his. When he pulled away, Otep returned his greeting with a small smile before her eyes wandered over his companions. Her eyes connected with Cris before he ran over and wrapped her into a hug too. Bam watched as they all exchanged hellos and hugs, fidgeting with the material of his white pants before they looked over to see Bam standing there waiting for an introduction.
“Who’s he?” Otep asked, crossing her arms over her chest and looking him over with suspicion. Bam crossed his arms too in response, his eyes narrowing as he looked her up and down with just as much disinterest.
With a happy grin on his face, Cris stepped over to stand by Bam’s side, and put an arm around his shoulder. “Otep Shamaya, meet Bam Margera, my new roommate and member of our group hopefully. Bam, I’d like you to meet Otep, she’s Bert’s roommate and close partner in crime since forever.”
