Heavy silence settled over them like a thick fog, the tension easing its way to their bodies. Crestfallen eyes watched him unceremoniously crumple the crisp paper, shoving it deep within the recesses of his pocket afterwards. At the same time, the green monster clawed at her insides, begging her to tell him to take the scholarship with her. But she couldn’t, choosing to bite her cheeks painfully to prevent any words from escaping her lips. She merely spun on her heel, faltering in her steps as she slowly descended the stairs. Her shoulders fell just as her stomach started to shift uncomfortably, and for a moment, she felt like Atlas, bearing the weight of the heavens at the western edge of the earth, all to prevent them from resuming their primordial embrace.
