Chapter Ten

By the time I get to the operating room, it’s too late.

I see the timer blinking while someone has just called the time. I glance at the table with the lifeless Thad on it and look over at Bilger. With his hands covered in blood, Bilger is standing with a stained cap on. He looks over at me with a small shake of his head. I notice the pain in his eyes once he moves away from the operating table.

I knew it was a hard case. I knew the procedure was difficult, yet I put too much fate in the surgeon and man’s life. Bilger didn’t deserve that but Thad did. Thad deserved my fate because that was all I could offer him. He didn’t know that but I sure wish he did.
