I Guess You Can Call These...

A Dance At Midnight

I watched everyone spin and glide across the dance floor.
I wasn’t in the mood for dancing.
I made my way through the group of people, to the front of the ball room.
The cool night air rushed into me as I opened the doors.
I walked around the building and to the back of it. I took my heels and felt the cold wet grass between my toes. I watched the fountain water change colors as I walked around aimlessly.
“What are you doing here?” I turned around to see a boy around my age. He walked over to me as I shrugged.
“I got bored”
“Me too. I’m William,”
“Paige,” I smiled.
“Nice to meet you,”
“You too,” I said walking away.
“What brings you too this gathering?”
“My parents, they’re boss is hosting this. You?”
“My dad’s the boss,”
“Sucks for you,”
“Yup,”
“You must have mad money, I mean, your water changes color,”
He grinned. “Dad must have everything bigger and better,”
“Sweet,”
“Not really,”
“Why?”
“Some people only like me for what I have,”
“I’m not like that,” I smiled.
“Really?” he asked taking my hand and placing his hand on my back.
“Yes, bigger and better isn’t always better,”
“Smart girl,” he smiled dancing with me.
“Thanks,”
William and I danced, outside, together and talked.
The bell chimed signaling that it was midnight. I looked at William sadly.
It was time for me to leave.
“I have to go,” I said.
“Do you have to?” he asked holding my waist a little tighter.
“My parents will worry,”
He sighed and let me go.
I hugged him good-bye. “Bye William,”
“I hope to see you again Paige,”
“Me too,” I said pulling away.
William grabbed my hand and pulled me toward him and kissed me quickly.
“I’ll see you again,” he smiled.
I smiled back and walked away.
****
I found my parents and we headed home.
The next day was school, the place I learn and play.
My mind was on William most of the day.
I was in gym class, the worst class ever, when I was called to the office.
I took my time heading to the office. I was trying to miss as much of gym class as I could.
I walked into the office and smiled.
William stood in front of me smiling.
“You left this,” he said holding up my bracelet.
I looked at my wrist.
It was gone.
I smiled. “How?”
“I don’t kiss and tell,”
I laughed and hugged him.
