Don’t Let Me Let You Go

16: The Morning After

Stirring a little, Iker blinked his dark eyes open, a small groan falling out of his mouth as a small pang of pain radiated through his head. He could tell that it was late, even despite the blinds being drawn, he could tell that he had overslept slightly, but he couldn’t quite bring himself to move, more than a little comfortable underneath Viola’s duvet. It had been a nice night, after they’d left the party, he’d not been able to keep his hands off of Viola, and he was a little disappointed that she wasn’t beside him. A small part of him had been looking forwards to waking up to the sight of her at his side.

Sparing a slight yawn, he gingerly pushed himself to a seated position before he carefully turned, settling his feet against the warm fluffy carpet of Viola’s bedroom.

“You’re awake”

Iker jumped a little at the sound of Viola’s voice and turned, his dark eyes wandering up and down her frame as she stepped into the room, his dress shirt hung over her petite frame. “I am” he spluttered, his head tilting to one side “You’re wearing my shirt?” he added.

Viola, who’d moved to place a mug of coffee on the end table, nodded. “It was the first thing to hand when I got up. Do you mind me wearing it?” she posed, her voice a little fretful. It wasn’t a forte of hers, the morning after sleeping with someone had always been a little awkward for Viola, and she worried that she had overstepped a mark, something she didn’t want to do. It had been nice, she had enjoyed having Iker around, and she didn’t want to screw it up by overstepping or being too awkward.

Iker, who’d been staring at her, shook his head, clearing his throat slightly. “No, not at all. It’s just been a while since I saw a girl in my shirt” he babbled, trying his hardest to keep his eyes off of her.

Viola shook her head. “I can change if you’d like” she noted “I just grabbed the first thing I found when I get up, but if it bothers you…”

“I like it, Lala” Iker interjected “I like it a lot” he added with a slightly boyish smile.

Viola’s cheeks warmed a little before she carefully climbed back onto the bed, neatly tucking her feet beneath the duvet. “I bought you a coffee” she noted thoughtfully “I figured you might need one” she added.

Iker smiled a little and nodded, gratefully taking the cup out of her hand. “I think I overdid it” he mumbled as he sipped at the drink.

“A tad” Viola agreed gently “But even so, you still managed to be the perfect gentleman all night. I’ve had texts from my madre and Lia telling me just how wonderful they thought you were” she enthused brightly. It was a feat, the idea that Iker had impressed all of her relatives, and she had to admit that she was a little proud. It had a taken a push, without Sergio and Pilar, she wouldn’t have found the keeper, but now that she had, she intended to keep him around. He was the first good thing she’d found for a little while and that, twinned with the idea that her family didn’t hate him, made her want to keep him around.

Iker, who’d moved to rest back against the pillow, smirked. “And you were worried” he teased.

Viola shook her head, something which made him smile. “You thought they wouldn’t like me?” he noted.

“They’ve never liked anyone I’ve bought home before. I was slightly skeptical” Viola conceded.

Iker shook his head a little before he moved to place the coffee cup down, leaning a little closer to her. “Even if they hadn’t like me, I wasn’t going to let you go, Lala” he noted gently, his hand finding hers in the plethora of sheets which were huddled around them. He could tell that she was nervous, even despite the short length of their relationship, he could sense that she was the type that needed to be reassured, and he was more than happy to provide it, even if it was early, he wanted her to know that he had little intention of losing her easily.

Viola shook her head. “It’s easy to say now that they do” she murmured.

Iker spared a small smile, edging a little closer to her. “Viola, I don’t know about you, but I am pretty happy with what we’ve got going on here and I’d like to keep it going. It is early days, a month isn’t really any time at all, but I thought you wanted something serious?” he posed softly.

“I do” Viola mumbled.

“Then stop worrying” Iker noted with a small shrug “Lala, things are good, they really are” he assured her gently.

Viola offered him a slightly skeptical look before she relaxed a little, allowing him to shift her a little closer to him. “Nena, I like that you’re worried, I like that you want to work to make this stay good between us, but right now, you’ve got nothing to be concerned with” he mumbled softly before he moved to press a kiss against her temple.

Viola closed her eyes at the contact, relishing it for a moment before she carefully reached her hand up, cupping his cheek. “You’re amazing” she mumbled affectionately before she craned her neck, moving to press a warm kiss to his lips. Iker smiled slightly at the contact and leant into it, gently leaning Viola’s smaller frame against the mattress.

“You’re not working today, are you?” he murmured between light and careful kisses.

Viola giggled a little at the feel of his stubble against her cheek before she shook her head. “I took the day off” she murmured.

Iker grinned at her words before he carefully weaved a hand into her hair, holding her closer to him. It was early days, too early to consider the idea of love, but he could see himself falling for her, even if she was slightly hesitant about them. In the month they’d been together, he’d grown used to her and struggled to imagine letting her go without a fight.
