Don’t Let Me Let You Go

02: I Can Give You One Night

“You want me to do what?” Iker Casillas posed as he looked at his friend, his eyebrow raised a little. It wasn’t the first time, since his last relationship had ended, Sergio had tried to set him up more than once, but he didn’t quite know why. He wasn’t really looking, after things with Sara had fallen apart, he had little interest in jumping into something else, but he knew Sergio and knew that the defender wouldn’t give up. It’d been almost 3 months since he and Sara had ended things and almost on a weekly basis, the defender asked the same question.

“Pilar’s got a friend” Sergio commented, tying the laces on his shoes “I was thinking you could go out with her” he added, offering the keeper a look.

“And why would I want to do that?” Iker replied, pulling on his jacket.

“Because you can’t mope forever” Sergio countered, offering his friend a crooked grin “It’s been a while, Iker, and you can’t duck out forever. Sara’s moved on and there is no reason as to why you can’t do the same thing. Pilar’s friend is pretty great” he enthused brightly.

He knew that Iker was reluctant, every time he broached the subject of the keeper going out on a date, the same mildly angry expression passed over his face, but he wanted to keep encouraging him. Things weren’t great for him, with Sara having left and murmurs that Iker’s time at Madrid was slowly coming to an end, Sergio could see that his friend needed a lift and he was sure that a night, even if it was just to be one night, with Pilar’s friend was bound to do the trick. From what he knew of Viola, she was exactly the keeper’s type and he was sure that spending a little time with her would buoy his spirits.

“I’ve only got your word for that” Iker replied, moving to collect his bag from the ground “She could be a murderer for all I know” he added.

Sergio scoffed. “Do you really think I would do that to you?” he posed.

Iker merely offered him a look.

“Iker, Viola’s lovely” Sergio insisted softly.

“And you can’t set her up with anyone else?” the keeper mused as he pushed the changing room door open, leading Sergio out into the corridor “Ronaldo’s single” he added.

“She’s not his type and Ronaldo is not her type” Sergio refuted, following after his friend “She’s a great match for you” he added.

Iker shook his head. “I doubt that” he muttered.

Sergio sighed. He had known it was going to take work, after Pilar had told him that Viola had finally agreed to be set up, he’d known that Iker was the perfect date for her, but he knew it wasn’t going to be easy. The keeper was stuck in a funk, he had been for a while, and it was going to take more than a little work for Sergio to convince him that a date with Viola was a good idea. “She’s really something, Iker” he noted gently.

“Then you should date her” Iker replied “Sergio, I am really not interested in this. I know you mean well…”

“Then humour me” Sergio interjected “Iker, this girl is wonderful. Pilar adores her” he insisted gently.

Iker sighed.

“I know it sucks right now, Iker” Sergio noted softly “You’ve not been yourself for a little while, and I really think this could help. Viola’s in the same boat, she’s been single for a little while, and I think the pair of you could be good. She’s really something, Iker, pretty, sweet and clever, and it wouldn’t kill you to give her a shot. I know that you don’t want to, but I think you might need to” the defender argued gently.

“I don’t think I’d be good at it” Iker murmured “I’ve not been on a date in a long time” he added.

“Neither has Viola” Sergio noted “She’s not dated in two years. I think you’ll be Ok” he assured him gently.

“Two years?” Iker posed.

“It’s a long story, one I should leave to Viola, but that’s why I think you’d be perfect for her. She’s timid and a little shy, and I think you’d do her good” Sergio grinned. He could see that Iker was swaying slightly, his expression had softened slightly, and he couldn’t help but be a little hopeful. Iker was the first and only choice he had when it came to a date for Viola and if he refused, Sergio didn’t quite know who to turn to.

“You really think setting her up with me is going to help?” Iker questioned.

“You’d not her scare her off” Sergio insisted “You’re very kind” he added.

Iker shook his head. “I don’t know, Sergio” he noted softly.

“Look, Pilar’s already agreed that it could be a double date” Sergio noted gently “She doesn’t want to scare Viola off so she agreed that me and her would be there at least until it looked as though things were going well. Viola’s a nice girl, Iker, I think you’d like her, and it would do you good to give her a shot. Worst case scenario, it’s one night of your life and you never have to see her again” he reasoned.

“And best case scenario?” Iker posed.

“You end up with a wonderful girl, Iker” Sergio enthused “So, do you think you could give it a go?” he added, offering the goalkeeper an enthusiastic smile.

“You’re sure about Viola?” Iker posed tentatively. He didn’t want to do it, not really, but he knew that Sergio wouldn’t let it lie. He clearly had his mind set on Iker going on a date with Viola and Iker didn’t want to listen to him ramble on about it. The defender had a point, it was only one night, and Iker was sure he could get through it. One night wasn’t much.

Sergio nodded his head. “I’ve met her a few times, she’s a sweet woman” he enthused.

Iker looked at the defender thoughtfully for a moment before he let out a small sigh. “One night?” he posed.

“One night” Sergio confirmed “And if it doesn’t work out, I’ll leave the topic of your love life alone for a while” he added.

“You promise?” Iker snorted.

Sergio marked a cross over his chest. “I promise” he grinned.

Iker shook his head. “Alright” he conceded gently “I can give you one night” he added.

Sergio grinned. “You won’t regret it” he enthused.

Iker merely nodded his head, already expecting it to be a waste of time.
