Don’t Let Me Let You Go

25: Come Away With Me

“Iker, how nice of you to join us” Gerardo grinned as he stepped out of the doorway, allowing his youngest to step inside with her boyfriend in tow. It had been a while, since Henry’s wedding, Gerardo and his wife had seen very little of their youngest daughter, but neither of them minded. It was trait of Viola’s, for the early stages of a relationship, she tended to focus a lot of her attention on the man she was seeing, and Gerardo was pleased to see that Iker had made past the first few months, it suggested that his and Viola’s relationship was going to be long-term rather than a short fling.

“It’s nice to see you again, Mr Garcia” Iker greeted kindly “Thank you for inviting me” he added as he extended the bottle of wine that he and Viola had opted to bring with them towards the older man.

Gerardo waved a hand. “It’s a family dinner, Iker, and for the time being at least, that includes you” he enthused as he took the bottle “Come through, everyone is excited to see the pair of you” he fussed.

Viola, who had stepped ahead of Iker slightly, rolled her eyes. “It’s not been that long, papa” she noted.

“I think this is the longest that I’ve seen you since your brother got married, Viola” Gerardo countered “Not that that is a bad thing. You and Iker have been busy no?” he teased.

Viola’s cheeks warmed a little before she shook her head, stepping into the living room where she was quickly greeted by Amelia who ushered her away towards the other women. Iker watched after her before Gerardo patted his shoulder. “She’s not coming back any time soon, Iker” he noted gently “Once Amelia gets going, it’s quite hard to shut her up, it’s a trait she gets from my wife. You’re more than welcome to join me and my boys for a drink” he offered.

“I’d like that, sir” Iker agreed.

“Gerardo” the older man corrected “Sir makes me feel so old. What are you drinking?” he posed as he led the keeper towards the kitchen.

“I’ll take a beer” Iker noted.

Gerardo nodded his head and padded towards the fridge, returning seconds later with a bottle of beer that he placed into Iker’s hand. “So, you and Lala have been together for a while” the older man noted.

“Coming up on 5 months now” Iker agreed “You’ve got an amazing daughter, sir” he noted.

“I know I have” Gerardo insisted “She’s a wonderful girl, a little too much like her madre for her own good, but she’s a brilliant girl and, before we get back to the others, I want you to promise me something” he noted, his blue eyes mirroring the keeper’s darker ones. He knew that he only had good intentions, the way he smiled whenever Viola was bought up in conversation was a giveaway, but still Gerardo wanted his word. Viola was the last one of his children yet to find the person she wanted to spend her life with and he didn’t want her time wasted by a man who had little interest in giving her what she wanted.

Iker tilted his head.

“Her last boyfriend, Alex, he led her on. He promised her the world and gave her none of it. I can see you care for her, Iker, it is written all over your face, but I want you to promise me that you won’t mess her around. She just wants to be happy and I think you could make it happen” Gerardo insisted.

Iker nodded. “I promise you, sir, I will do my best to ensure that your daughter remains happy. I care about her, deeply, and I want nothing but the best for her” he promised.

Gerardo flashed him a grin before he patted his shoulder, leading him out into the conservatory where the other men sat. “Iker” Max grinned “You and Lala decided to grace us with your presence, did you?” he teased.

“Viola wanted to see her sister” Iker shrugged “I thought I could come along” he added.

Max grinned and offered the keeper a seat at his side, something Iker took as he sipped on his drink.

“Have you come up with something for Viola’s birthday yet, Iker?” Lucas posed.

Iker tilted his head. “Her birthday?” he posed.

“May 5th” Lucas noted “She’s going to be 25” he added.

“She didn’t tell you?” Henry teased.

“She did not” Iker noted “That’s in a few days” he added, scratching his chin thoughtfully. It wasn’t something that they’d talked about, but Iker knew that he couldn’t let the occasion slip past without notice. He knew that she knew that his birthday followed hers closely and he was in little doubt that she would have come up with something wonderful for him.

“That’s Lala all over” Lucas mused, shaking his head.

Iker offered him a small smile before he sipped on his drink, his mind already working on what he could do for her.

“You didn’t tell me that your birthday was in a few days”

Viola, who’d been cleaning the last plate after dinner, shook her head a little as Iker wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her shoulder gently.

“I didn’t think you’d want to make a fuss” Viola murmured “It’s been 5 months. It seemed a little early” she added.

“You know when mine is” Iker countered.

“And my only plans for that day consisted of breakfast in bed and maybe a little something else. I thought you’d be Ok with that” she mused, tilting her head so that he could kiss her lips lightly.

“I want to make a fuss” Iker mumbled.

“You don’t have to” Viola returned “My madre tends to go OTT every year and Amelia and the others are insisting on throwing some sort of party. The fuss has been taken care of for you” she insisted, offering him an impish smile.

“Then let me do something else instead” Iker bargained.

Viola shook her head and moved away from him so that she could put the plate away. “Like what?” she countered.

“The season is over soon” Iker noted.

“I know” Viola teased.

“Then come away with me during the summer” Iker suggested gently.

Viola startled a little, a shocked smile on her face. “You want me to come away with you?” she posed.

“A joint birthday gift” Iker shrugged “Two weeks in the sun. You could sunbathe, swim…relax” he insisted gently.

“A trip for both of us?” Viola quipped, her eyebrow lifted a little. It was a big step, going away together, but she could see that he meant his offer. The serious expression on his face confided that he knew what he was doing.

Iker nodded his head. “I’d love you to come with me, Lala” he insisted “I was thinking of somewhere far away and warm where I could spend 2 uninterrupted weeks with you” he enthused.

Viola tilted her head. “You’ve given this some thought” she observed.

“Perhaps” Iker shrugged “But it is something I would like very much, Lala. Two weeks of sun, sea, sand, and you” he enthused, a slight smirk appearing on his face.

Viola’s cheeks warmed a little. “I think I could enjoy that” she murmured.

“I know I will” Iker enthused before he stepped towards her, stealing a kiss that Viola grinned into.

“You’re in?” he posed as he ducked back.

“I’m in” Viola agreed brightly.
