Don’t Let Me Let You Go

31: For You, I’ll Try

Wrapping a towel around her hair, Viola stepped quietly into Iker’s bedroom, a small sigh falling out of her mouth. It had been an odd day, with Iker preoccupied with his agent, Viola hadn’t seen a lot of him, but in that moment, it seemed liked good thing to her. She knew what he was going to say when he found her, he was going to tell her that he needed to go to Portugal, even if it was only for a few days to get things sorted out, and for a little while, Viola didn’t want to hear it. She knew that it had to happen, Iker deserved to be happy and with Madrid unlikely to change their minds, Porto was his best shot at it, but still it irked Viola. Things were good for them, brilliant even, and the move was going to put pressure on them, something she was concerned could be the end of their relationship.

Shaking her head, she padded towards the drawer of clothes that she had started to keep in Iker’s dresser a few months previous and pulled out a fresh set of clothes, settling them down on the bed.

“You’re avoiding me” Iker commented from his spot in the door way.

“You were busy” Viola countered, not looking over at him “I didn’t want to get in the way” she added.

Iker shook his head and stepped a little deeper into the room, sitting himself on the end of the bed. “Viola, you know that you can talk to me, don’t you?” he murmured, handing her the t-shirt she was looking for.

Viola nodded. “I do know that” she confirmed, gratefully taking the shirt out of his hand “But you really were busy. You’ve been busy all day and I didn’t want to interrupt” she insisted.

“My agent left an hour ago” Iker murmured “About the time you came up here for a bath. So, why don’t you sit here and tell me what is going on in that pretty little head of yours, eh?” he posed, his hand patting the spot beside him gently.

Viola chewed on her lip for a moment before she pulled the shirt over her head, sitting down beside him.

“You don’t have to come with me, Viola” Iker murmured as he tugged at the towel on her head, allowing her blonde curls to tumble out from beneath it “If you’re not in a place where you’d be comfortable moving with me, then I am not going to make you. I don’t want you to resent me for making you do something that you weren’t ready for” he insisted, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

Viola, who’d moved to lean into him slightly, sighed. “I’m sorry” she murmured.

“You don’t have to apologise” Iker insisted gently “It is early, 6 months is no time at all, and I don’t want you feeling as though I am trying to put a heap of pressure on you. I want you to be happy, that’s all” he added, his larger hand squeezing hers which tugged at the hem of her t-shirt, trying to cover up the pair of underwear she sat in.

“I want you to be happy too” Viola murmured.

Iker smiled a little and pressed a kiss against her temple. “Tell me what you want to do, Lala” he mumbled.

“I want to date you” Viola countered immediately “But I also don’t want to leave my home. You must think I am being so selfish” she muttered.

Iker shook his head. “I don’t think that” he murmured “I don’t think I have ever thought of you as selfish. I think you’re scared about this and for me, that’s OK. This thing…it’s not something I planned on happening and now that it is, it is going to take a little digesting, but if you want to stay here, I am OK with that” he insisted.

He had given it a lot of thought, the idea of a long distance relationship, and he knew that it was the best call that they could make. He didn’t want to lose her, 6 months with Viola was never going to be enough for him, but he knew that he couldn’t make her go with him. She clearly had reservations and he knew that the more he pushed, the more he risked her ending their relationship.

Viola tilted her head. “You’d be OK if I didn’t come with you right now?” she posed.

“I’d love it if you did” Iker mused “But I get it, Lala, and if you want to stay here, then I will learn to be OK with that. I just want to make sure that you’re happy” he insisted.

“Long distance” Viola murmured “You’d be OK with that?” she asked.

“OK is a stretch” Iker admitted “I’ve kind of gotten used to having you around most of the time, but for you? I’d try it. I want to be with you, Lala, and I don’t want to end our relationship over this” he explained, messing with her fingers.

Viola watched the slight movement of his hand before she spared a little smile, pressing a kiss against his cheek. “You’re the most amazing boyfriend, you know that?” she posed gently.

Iker chuckled modestly. “I think you’re exaggerating” he murmured as he rested his forehead on hers.

Viola smiled. “It’ll only before a few months” she murmured “If we can make it to 8 or 9 months together, I think I would feel better about it. I just need some time, Iker, to get things sorted out in my head before I follow you” she explained gently.

“Take all the time you need” Iker returned, pecking her lips lightly “I want you to be comfortable, Lala, and when you do come with me, I want it to be for keeps. I am done screwing around in relationships, Viola” he insisted.

Viola offered him a gentle smile before she cuddled into him, affording him the chance to press a kiss to the side of her head. It wasn’t how he wanted it to be, if he could have had his way, Viola would have gone along with him, but he knew that he needed to let it happen naturally. When she did move to Porto for him, he wanted it to be a permanent thing, something it was never going to be if he pushed her into it.

She needed to get there by herself.
