Don’t Let Me Let You Go

34: You’re Not Going To

Pulling the sweater of Iker’s she wore a little more around her shoulders, Viola let out a little sigh, her blue eyes peeking out of the window which sat ahead of her. It was late, after spending the day with Iker, Viola had tried to fall asleep beside him, but the conversation that they had had, she had struggled. She knew that he was struggling, for the past few days, he had been a little quieter and more subdued that normal, but still the conversation that they had had played on her mind. He had seemed desperate, the way he had spoken had tugged on her heart strings, but still she didn’t quite know that she could give him what he wanted.

It was a big step for them, moving in together wasn’t something to do without a lot of consideration, and Viola was scared that he was merely asking as a reaction to his transfer. He was looking for something, anything to cling onto, and Viola worried that he was trying to move them along only because things at Real Madrid had ended for him.

Shaking her head a little, she pushed her fingers through her blonde hair before she let out another sigh, trying to get rid of the lump in her throat.

“You can run, if you really want to”

Viola startled at the sound of Iker’s voice before she turned around, her blue eyes studying his sleepy expression. “What are you doing up?” she posed gently.

“I was stirring and I noticed you weren’t there. Have you gotten any sleep?” he posed, sparing a small yawn into his hand.

“Not really” Viola admitted.

Iker let out a small sigh and took a couple of paces forwards, settling himself down on the couch before he patted the spot beside him, his dark eyes peeking up at his girlfriend. “We need to talk, no?” he posed.

“It can wait” Viola protested gently “We should just go back to bed…”

“Viola, stop stalling” Iker interjected gently “Clearly, there is something on your mind and, as your boyfriend, I would like for you to tell me about it. You’ve been funny all day, Lala, and I want you to talk to me” he insisted.

Viola glanced at the empty seat at his side before she carefully sat down, affording him the chance to slip his arm around her shoulder, holding her close. “I’ve scared you” he murmured.

“Iker…”

“You don’t have to lie, Lala” Iker interrupted, offering her a small smile “Before, I put a lot on you and I know it. You don’t have to try and spare my feelings” he insisted.

“I just worry that you’re trying to push us along because of all the changes in your life” Viola murmured “We both know that if we were still in Spain right now, you’d not be asking me to come and live you and I worry that if we push this too far, too soon, then we will ruin something which, to me at least, is special” she explained softly.

Iker nodded his head quietly. “I don’t want to lose you” he murmured gently.

“You’re not going to” Viola replied, tilting her head so that she looked up at him “Iker, long distance or not, I have little intention of losing someone that has become so important to me. I love you, that’s not something I am just going to forget, and you need to get that through your head. Porto or Madrid, I still want you and only you” she insisted with a warm smile.

“I know that” Iker murmured “I just…a lot of things are changing. I’m away from my home, Lala, for the first time, and I guess I just want to keep a hold of something to make me feel better and I don’t feel any better than when I have you” he explained.

Viola smiled gently before she leant up, gently kissing him. “I am glad that you feel that way” she murmured “But, right now, I just don’t know that this move is right for me. I want to be with you, I don’t want you to doubt that, but I can’t just go, Iker. My life is there, my family, my job, and for a little while at least…”

“It’s where you need to be too” Iker finished for her, offering her a feeble smile.

“It’s not going to be forever” Viola insisted.

“But it is going to be right now” Iker countered.

Viola offered him a soft look before she nodded her head, a nervous smile on her face. “I’m sorry” she whispered.

“You don’t have to be sorry” Iker replied, his hand gently rubbing her arm “You’re right, it is early and if we were still in Madrid, I wouldn’t be asking, but I just thought…I thought that maybe you would come with me” he explained gently.

“I will do” Viola murmured, cuddling a little closer to him “But not right now. It’s just…”

“Not the right time” Iker finished.

“Not the right time” Viola agreed.

Iker nodded his head quietly before he pressed a kiss to the top of her head, something which made Viola smile a little. “You know, I love you” she mused affectionately.

“I’d hope so” Iker teased gently “If not, I have wasted 6 months on you” he added.

Viola giggled and shook her head, leaning up to kiss him once more. “You’ve got me for a lot longer than 6 months, mi amor” she enthused softly.

“I hope so” Iker mumbled, leaning down to kiss her shoulder “I’ve already started thinking about our future” he added.

Viola twisted a little so that she looked up at him, her eyebrow quirked. “You have?” she posed.

Iker smiled. “I might have done” he teased “That doesn’t scare you, does it?” he posed.

Viola shook her head. “What have you thought about?” she posed.

Iker quirked a lopsided smile. “I see you moving here with me” he noted gently “I see a proposal, a beautiful wedding and then I see two kids, one of each, and each as beautiful as their madre” he enthused.

Viola smiled gently at his words before she placed her hands over his cheeks, levering him into another soft kiss. “We’ll get there” she insisted softly.

Iker leant up and kissed her again. “I know we will” he agreed.
