Don’t Let Me Let You Go

40: That Could Be You Next

“You’ll call me when you land, won’t you?” Iker posed as he watched Viola pack her bag from his spot on the bed. It had been a few weeks, Viola had been in Porto for almost 3 months, and, after a call from her brother, she was due to travel back to Madrid in order to meet her new niece who had arrived earlier that morning.

Viola, who’d been folding a few things into a hold all, smiled. “Of course I will” she insisted “I know how much you worry” she added.

“I don’t worry” Iker countered.

“You do” Viola teased “But don’t worry, I think it is very cute” she added as she zipped up the bag.

Iker, who was rested against the pillows at the top of the bed, rolled his eyes. “You irk me” he noted.

“I do not” Viola countered as she moved to place the bag on the floor “In fact, you love me” she teased as she sat down beside him, her arms looping around his waist. Things had been good for them, ever since she had made the decision to move in, their relationship had been going from strength, and Viola was pleased with the results. Their 10 month relationship was strong, it was comfortable, and, even if he hadn’t said anything, she knew that Iker was thinking ahead, something which gave her butterflies. She wanted everything that he did, the marriage, the children, and it excited her that he was already thinking about it. She had assumed that it would take more time for him to be comfortable with the notion of thinking of a future together.

Iker, who’d placed his arms around her shoulders, kissed the top of her head. “For some reason, I do love you” he mumbled.

Viola giggled a little and rested her head against his chest, listening to the soft rhythmic beat of his heart.

“How long are you going to be gone for?” he murmured, his hand skirting up and down her back.

“Lucas is probably going to want everyone gone within a day or so, but I figured I could take a couple. I know Lia is itching to see me and my madre too, and Pilar wants to show off her bump” she noted.

“They can’t be far away now, either” Iker mumbled.

“November” Viola noted “Pilar takes great joy in keeping me up to date. Can you believe that Sergio is going to have 2 children?” she posed.

“I can barely believe that Sergio can tie his own shoe laces” Iker countered, earning a small laugh from his girlfriend.

“He’s a good papa” Viola noted.

Iker nodded his head. “He is” he agreed softly “I’ll be better though” he added, one of his hands dropping to the front of her shirt.

Viola eyed the extremity for a moment before she peeked up at his face, her head tilted slightly. “You still think about us having a baby?” she posed softly. It wasn’t something they talked about, for a little while, their only concern had been enjoying the honeymoon phase of their relationship, but since she had moved in, the sense that they were in a serious relationship had merely grown, something which made Viola curious. She knew where she was and she wanted to know where it was he stood.

“I think about a lot of things, nena” Iker noted, his thumb lightly brushing over her shirt.

“Like what?” Viola posed.

Iker shook his head. “You know what” he murmured, kissing the side of her head softly.

Viola smiled a little before the sound of her phone caught her ears, causing her sigh. “I need to go. That’s my cab” she noted.

“I’ll see you in a couple of days” Iker noted as he let her stand up.

Viola nodded her head before she ducked down, pressing a kiss against his lips. “Adios” she mused.

“Look at you” Amelia grinned as she greeted her sister. It had been a while, other than the odd video chat, Amelia hadn’t seen Viola since she had made the move to Porto, but she was pleased to her. Viola looked good, stunning, and Amelia had little doubt that it was related to her relationship with Iker which seemed to be going from strength to strength.

“I am fairly confident I still look the same” Viola commented as she lifted her bag onto her shoulder “You’ve had a haircut though” she commented, gesturing to her sister’s newly shortened hair.

“Observant as ever, Lala” Amelia teased.

Viola offered her a cheeky smile before she moved to follow her towards the exit of the airport. “How’s Luke doing?” she posed.

“Sleep deprived from what mama says” Amelia noted “She and papa have been at the hospital since Aurelia went into labour” she added.

“I bet Aurelia was thrilled” Viola teased.

“She’s had enough painkillers that mama’s hovering is probably not that bothering. Have you seen the picture?” Amelia posed.

“Lucas sent one. She’s a pretty girl” Viola mused.

“She looks like her mama, thankfully” Amelia teased.

Viola giggled. “You’ve not said that to Luke, have you?” she posed.

Amelia shook her head. “I’ve not talked to him yet” she noted “I am still having a hard time believing that our big brother is a papa” she mused.

“Tell me about it” Viola mused “It still seems like yesterday that he was sitting with us and playing dolls, and now he’s got a little girl” she enthused.

“Her name is Mollie” Amelia noted “Mollie Elena Garcia” she added.

Viola smiled a little. “That’s a beautiful name” she enthused.

Amelia nodded. “The first Garcia baby” she noted.

“The first of many” Viola contributed.

“Your niece is beautiful, Lala” Iker mused as he rested back against the pillow, his phone pressed to his ear. It had been unexpected, Viola had called briefly earlier to tell him that she had arrived safely, but the second call was welcome.

As silly as it was, he missed her.

“She is, isn’t she?” Viola enthused.

“Very pretty. Aurelia and Lucas must be thrilled” he enthused.

“Lucas can’t stop smiling” Viola mused “He even put up with madre’s fussing and that is saying something. She’s been in cooing abuela mode all day” she noted.

“It’s her first grandbaby” Iker pointed out “I bet she’s been counting down the days since Aurelia told her that she and Lucas were expecting” he teased.

“She has been. The days are marked off on the calendar” Viola giggled.

Iker smile gently at the sound. “How are you with being around the baby?” he posed.

“I love it” Viola enthused “She’s so tiny, Iker, like a little doll, and I can’t believe my brother made her. She’s perfect” she gushed.

“You sound made up” Iker enthused, stretching his legs out a little in an attempt to get a little more comfortable.

“She’s amazing, Iker” Viola noted “She’s really something special and Lucas and Aurelia…I doubt I’ve seen them happier before. It’s really special” she enthused.

“That could be you next” Iker mumbled, a small yawn falling out of his mouth.

“Huh?” Viola spluttered.

Iker chuckled. “You can’t be surprised by that statement, Lala” he teased “We’ve talked about a baby before” he pointed out.

“I know” Viola squeaked “I just didn’t think…I want it, I want a future with you, but I didn’t think you would want to do it now. 10 months, mi amor” she pointed out.

“I know” Iker confirmed “That’s not the longest time, but we’re good, aren’t we?” he posed.

“We are” Viola agreed.

“And you don’t have any plans in going anywhere, anytime soon, do you?” he posed.

“No” Viola replied immediately.

“Then I don’t see the harm in trying. It might not happen right away, Lala, and even if it does, I think we could handle it. We’re good, mi amor, really good, and I want to start moving forwards” he explained gently. He knew that it was a big step, planning for a family was the biggest decision that either of them would ever make, but he felt the time was right. They were good, content, and he wanted to start moving forwards. He wanted to start planning his future with the girl he wanted to spend it with.

“Can I think about it?” Viola posed.

“Of course” Iker agreed “But do think about it, Lala. It could be good for us” he mused before he bid her goodnight, hanging up the phone.
