Don’t Let Me Let You Go

44: No One Better

Stretching her legs out a little, Viola blinked her blue eyes open, glancing towards the alarm clock that stood on the nightstand. It was early, like almost every morning, Viola had stirred before the irritating bleeping from the alarm clock had had the chance to fill the room, but that morning, she didn’t mind. It had a few weeks, after the talk that they had had about their future, she and Iker had fallen into a familiar and comfortable rhythm, and Viola was pleased. It had quickly come around to Christmas morning and the last thing she wanted to show off to their relatives, who had made the trip out to see them, was a relationship that was falling apart at the seams.

Flicking the alarm clock off, she carefully pushed herself out from beneath the warm duvet and padded towards the door, wanting to make breakfast before the large group of relatives descended on them.

“You’re not even going to say good morning?”

Viola, who’d made it to the door, shook her head, a small smile playing on her face. “You’re supposed to be asleep” she noted.

“I was” Iker replied “And then you moved and it woke me up. Not happy to see me?” he teased as he sat up a little.

Viola shook her head slightly and turned around, leaning her weight against the door frame. “Feliz Navidad” she noted, offering him a small smile. It felt a little odd, the notion that they would be spending their first Christmas together, but for a little while, it was a notion that had excited Viola. She had had family Christmases before, for years, her parents had hosted a day for her and her siblings, but she was excited to be the one hosting that year, even more so by the prospect of sharing it with the man who she had come to love.

Iker, who’d moved to his feet, smiled a little. “Feliz Navidad” he mused as he stepped towards her.

Viola offered him another light smile before she pushed herself up onto her toes, preparing to press a kiss against his cheek only to have him turn his head, capturing her in a soft kiss. “We don’t have anything to do for a little while” he mumbled as he placed his hands against her hips “You really need to leave this room right now?” he added, his nose nudging against her jaw.

Viola smirked a little. “I was sort of hoping you’d ask” she teased.

“I can’t believe all of these people fit in our living room” Viola noted from her spot beside the door, her blue eyes scanning the array of people who’d moved to fit into their living room. It had been a busy morning, when Iker had finally let her get up, Viola had spent the whole morning cooking and greeting the relatives that had made the trip to see them, and she was a little amazed by how well it was going. She had been concerned that she would mess up.

“We’ve got a decent sized living room” Iker countered, his arms happily sat around her waist “The problem will come when we try and sit down to dinner. A few of your siblings might get relegated to the fold out table I bought” he noted.

“They’ll have to make do” Viola noted, kissing his chin gently “But right now, I want to hold my little niece and open a few presents. Join me?” she posed, offering him a little smile.

“In a second. I’ll go and check on things in the kitchen first” he replied before he pressed a kiss to the top of her head, padding out of the room. Viola watched after him for a second before she padded towards Aurelia, smiling a little at the sight of Mollie who cooed gently in her mother’s arms.

“You want to hold her?” Aurelia posed.

“If you wouldn’t mind” Viola mused “I’ve not seen her in a little while” she added.

Aurelia smiled and carefully set Mollie in Viola’s arms, affording the younger woman a chance to coo over the little girl. She was tiny, her fingers and toes were quite possibly the most adorable things that Viola had ever seen, and she was still a little amazed that her brother had played a part in making her. She couldn’t quite believe how beautiful her niece was.

“You Ok, Lala?” Lucas posed as he sat down beside his sister, offering Mollie a small smile.

“I’m still amazed by her” Viola admitted gently “She’s so perfect” she added.

Lucas grinned and nodded. “I know she is” he enthused “That’s all because of her mama” he added, offering Aurelia a look which made her cheeks tint pink.

Viola smiled at the action and shook her head gently, wordlessly hoping that she and Iker could make it to the point that Lucas and Aurelia were at whilst still being as in love as they were.

“Are you nearly done in here?” Viola chirped as she skittered into the kitchen, her blue eyes peeking up at Iker who stood beside the sink, finishing up the last of the dishes. It had been a successful day, even despite Viola’s slight nerves, she had done a wonderful job, and Iker was proud of her. She had looked in her element since the moment their families had shown up and he knew it was something which boded well for them.

“I’ve still got a few plates to do” he noted “Why?” he added.

“Because you’re on my team for the next board game and I don’t want to start without you. I think we’re both aware that you’re the intelligent one in this relationship” Viola mused.

Iker chuckled a little. “I’ll be with you in a second” he noted gently “Give me a second to clean these last plates and then we will kick some ass together, Ok?” he added.

Viola grinned before she took a step towards him, kissing him softly. “Don’t be too long” she muttered before she stepped away, allowing Iker to focus his attention back on the last of the dishes.

“I’m a little surprised”

Iker, who’d been wiping over a side plate, startled, almost dropping the plate on the floor.

Gerardo chuckled. “Lo siento, I didn’t meant to scare you” he mused gently “I was just looking for a second alone with you” he added.

Iker nodded. “It’s fine” he noted “What can I do for you, Senor Garcia?” he posed, turning to face the older man.

“Gerardo, please” the older man smiled “I am surprised by you, Iker” he noted.

“How so?” the keeper posed.

“I expected you to be asking me something today and, thus far, you’ve not looked interested in speaking to me alone. I’m shocked” he admitted gently. He knew that it was early, Iker and Viola’s relationship had only been going for 11 months, but he was still surprised that Iker had cornered him to ask his permission to propose to his daughter. It was something he had been anticipating for a while.

“Gerardo, I love your daughter, but we’ve talked about this and I want to hold off” Iker noted, catching onto the older man’s train of thought.

“I understand” Gerardo smiled “Lala’s an amazing girl though” he enthused.

“The best” Iker agreed “And one day, I do intend to propose to her” he added.

Gerardo nodded. “I am sure you will know when the moment is right” he enthused “I trust you with her, you know, and that’s not something I do very lightly. She’s my baby, Iker, my little girl, and I want you to know that when you find the right moment, I want you to take it. You have my full permission to marry my daughter” he insisted gently.

Iker blinked. “You’re sure?” he posed.

“I can think of no one better for her” Gerardo noted, patting his shoulder softly “You’ve got my blessing” he added with a kind smile before Viola sped back into the room.

“Are you done in here?” she posed.

Iker looked at Gerardo for a moment before he nodded his head, flashing his girlfriend a soft smile. He knew that they were in no hurry, they had as much time as they wanted to enjoy their relationship, but he was pleased nevertheless to have Gerardo’s blessing.

It meant a lot to him that the older man trusted him with his daughter.
