Don’t Let Me Let You Go

45: The First Of Many

“You really have to go right now?” Iker mumbled as he pushed a hand back through his hair, a small yawn tumbling out of his mouth. It was early, like almost every morning, Viola had woken up before their alarm had gone off, but it left the keeper a little irked. It was the morning of their first anniversary and he was a little disappointed that they didn’t have more time together before she had to get to work.

“I’m opening this morning” Viola returned over her shoulder as she pulled on her boot “And I planned on stopping by a café to pick up my usual morning coffee. I’ll see you later though” she added, turning to look at him.

“It’s our anniversary” Iker countered, ruffling his dark hair slightly “I was expecting to see a little more of you” he added.

“And you will” Viola mused as she moved up to her feet, collecting her jacket from the wardrobe “But I have to go. Perhaps we could get lunch together?” she suggested softly. She felt bad, she too had been expecting more time alone with him before she had to get to work, but thanks to a bout of the flu which had made its way around her work colleagues, she had little choice. She had had to take the early shift in order to guarantee that she had the evening off to spend with her boyfriend.

“It’s not exactly what I was hoping to get out of this morning” Iker complained gently “I have the morning off and I was hoping to spend it with you” he added, moving to collect a jumper from the side.

“I’m sorry” Viola murmured “Tiago got the flu from Esther and then Nick came down with it too. I have to work this morning to make sure that I have tonight off. I really am sorry, Iker” she protested gently.

Iker nodded. “I’ll get to see you at some point today, won’t I?” he posed, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth.

Viola nodded quickly. “Of course you will” she insisted “I should be done by one, and I know you’ve got training this afternoon, but this evening, that’s all about us” she insisted.

Iker nodded his head. “Alright” he conceded softly “Happy 1st anniversary, Lala” he murmured as he stepped towards her, his arms settling around her waist. Viola stepped into the contact, her arms wrapping around his neck almost instinctively before she placed a kiss against his nose, causing him to scrunch it up slightly. “What was that for?” he mumbled.

“I like watching you pull that face” Viola shrugged gently, a small grin on her face “And it makes you seem less pissed” she added.

“I’m a little pissed” Iker mumbled, carefully tucking some of her blonde hair away from her face “But at the same time, I like that you care so much about your job. I like seeing you happy and whenever you talk about that place, you get this adorable little smile just here” he added, his thumb brushing over the corner of her mouth.

Viola shook her head. “I really do have to go” she noted, knowing what he was trying to do.

Iker chuckled. “I know. I’ll see you later” he mused as he stepped back from her.

“Happy 1st anniversary” Viola smiled softly before she stepped out of the room.

Iker shook his head a little as he stared after her. He was more than a little amazed that they had made it a year.

Tugging the knitted hat off of her head, Viola set her bag down beside the door, closing it behind her. It had been a long morning, the small high end boutique that she had found herself working in had been busy that morning, and she was pleased to be home, even if she was to be alone for a couple of hours, she was grateful to have the chance to be off of her feet.

Pulling off her coat, she hung it up neatly beside the door before she padded into the living room, stopping short of the coffee table which held a neatly arranged bouquet of pink roses and a small red envelope, a sight that made her shake her head. “You sneaky romantic” she mumbled to herself as she padded towards the table, collecting the card.

Tearing the top off the envelope, she smiled a little at the sentimental message that Iker had written before she placed it up on the shelf beside one of her favourite pictures of them, her head shaking a little. It felt a little odd, the idea that they had been dating for a year, but Viola couldn’t help but be a little proud that that had made it as far as they had. There had been more than one moment where she had thought that they would call it quits. Admiring the picture, she felt a small smile pull at the corner of her mouth before she padded towards the kitchen, moving to get a start on dinner.

She wanted to give Iker a romantic night that would be fitting of their first anniversary of many.

“Viola?” Iker called as he closed the apartment door “Are you back yet?” he added.

“Living room” Viola called back.

Iker nodded his head a little and set his bag down before he padded into the room, stopping as he spotted the scene ahead of him. It was dark, even despite it being late afternoon, Viola had purposely drawn the curtains and left the room lit with the soft flames of the candles which were dotted around, and for a moment, Iker didn’t quite know what to say. He had figured that if they were to do anything they’d go out.

“You’re not the only one who can be romantic” Viola teased from the door way “The roses, Iker?” she added.

“Like the first time I visited your apartment in Madrid” he mused “I thought it was sweet” he added.

“It was adorable” Viola fussed “I didn’t know you were the romantic type” she added.

Iker scoffed. “I’m the romantic one in this relationship” he mused, his dark eyes studying the dress that Viola wore. It was stunning, the dark blue lace revealed just enough of her skin to tempt him, but not too much that it was distracting.

Viola noted the line of his stare and shook her head. “I thought you’d like this” she teased, her fingers tugging at the bottom of her dress “I think you’ll like what is underneath more” she added, flashing him a smirk.

Iker shook his head. “You’re a tease, Miss Garcia” he mused.

Viola giggled and shook her head. “You’re too easy to mess with” she countered.

Iker smiled a little before he stepped towards her, drawing her into a soft kiss. “Feliz aniversario” he murmured gently.

Viola smiled softly and rested her forehead against his, enjoying the feeling of their embrace. “The first of many” she murmured.

Iker nodded his head. “You’re not getting rid of me easily” he insisted.

Viola smiled a little before she pecked his lips, moving towards the kitchen. “You ought to sit down. I’ve made all of your favourites” she mused.

Iker shook his head. “I love you” he admitted.

Viola grinned. “It’s a good thing I love you too then isn’t it?” she teased before she blew him a kiss, something which made him chuckle.

He hoped that they had many more years of anniversaries to come.
