Don’t Let Me Let You Go

48: Speechless

Sparing a small yawn into her hand, Viola peeked around the small boutique, noting just how quiet it was. It wasn’t the first time, the small shop tended to flit between busy and empty, but Viola was glad for the quiet, it meant that she didn’t have to get up and try to walk around. Scanning the empty store, she rested back into her seat for a moment, her blue eyes closing contently.

“Special delivery”

At the sound of Esther’s voice, Viola sat up, glaring at the other woman. “You can’t be quiet?” she murmured “It’s barely 10 in the morning and because of this job, I had to leave my boyfriend sleeping, on Valentine’s Day” she added, a small yawn falling out of her mouth.

Esther shook her head. “I am sure that that was a struggle” she teased “But, I think these are for you” she added, settling the vase she had collected from the delivery courier onto the counter “I mean, they could be for me, but seeing as I have been single for the last 6 months and Tiago is dating that lovely boyfriend of his, I am pretty convinced they’re yours” she added.

Viola offered her a glance before she turned her attention towards the bouquet, shaking her head a little.

“He does this a lot?” Esther teased.

“It’s a little signature of his” Viola smiled, her fingertips gently brushing the pink petals “When he first visited my apartment, he showed up with this lovely bouquet of pink roses and now, on special occasions, he buys them. It’s cute, no?” she mused, plucking the card out from between them flowers.

“Adorable” Esther noted “How did you find this man again?” she added.

“A blind date” Viola mused “My friend Pilar kept trying to set me up and when I finally agreed, she introduced me to Iker” she enthused.

Esther admired the small smile on her friend’s face and shook her head. “You’re a lucky girl” she enthused.

Viola nodded. “I know I am” she mused before she flicked her attention to the card, a warm smile pulling at the corner of her lips.

“What does it say?” Esther posed curiously.

“It says ‘be my valentine?’” Viola noted, shaking her head.

Esther rolled her eyes. “Marry the man” she commented before she padded away.

Viola allowed her friend’s comment to linger around her for a moment before she peeked down at the card in her hand, a small lump in her throat. It wasn’t something they talked about, after Lucas and Aurelia had had Mollie, the topic of Viola’s future with Iker had been pushed aside, but even the slight offhand comment that Esther had made her a little nervous. She knew that he was waiting, even if he thought he was being subtle, Viola knew he was merely waiting for the go-ahead, and she didn’t quite know how it made her feel. Part of her wanted him to do it, she wanted to watch him get down on his knee for her and ask her to spend her life with him, but another part of her worried.

They were good, brilliant even, and she knew as soon as the word ‘engaged’ fell out of one of their mouths, then there would be a lot more pressure on something that she had grown remarkably fond of.

“Are you nearly ready?” Iker posed as he stood outside of the bathroom, his hand tapping against the door.

“Almost” Viola replied “Are you going to tell me where we are going yet?” she countered.

Iker shook his head. “Not until we get there, no” he mused “You surprised me for our anniversary and I intend to do the same for you tonight” he added before he watched the door pull open, offering him a look at Viola. “You look amazing, nena” he enthused.

Viola, who stood in the door way, shook her head. “It’s nothing you’ve not seen before” she murmured.

“You still look beautiful” Iker smiled.

Viola offered him a little look before she shook her head, pressing a soft kiss against his cheek, something which made him place his hands on her waist. “You’re ready to go?” he posed gently.

“I am” she confirmed “You’ve not done anything stupid, have you?” she posed.

Iker shook his head. “That very much depends on what you mean by ‘stupid’” he teased “But if you mean, anything over the top, I don’t think so” he mused.

Viola offered him a slightly dubious look before she moved to collect her coat, offering her hand to him. “Lead the way” she mused.

“Are you going to take this ridiculous thing off of me yet?” Viola complained as she allowed Iker to lead her, her blue hidden behind the tie of his that he had wrapped around her eyes as soon as they had sat down in his car.

“Just a few more steps” Iker insisted “Can you wait that long?” he added.

“It had better be a great surprise” Viola complained.

Iker chuckled a little at the tone of her voice before he led her a couple of steps further, stopping ahead of the small scene he’d set up for them. “I think you’ll like it” he enthused, pressing a kiss to her cheek as he pulled the tie away from her eyes.

Viola takes a second, adjusting to the light, before she shakes her head, a small smile on her face. “You’re a romantic” she babbled gently.

“I know you like it that way” Iker mused “And I figured, it beat a dinner in a stuffy restaurant. Care to stay?” he added, moving to sit himself down on the blanket which he had set up on the ground.

Viola smiled fondly and sat down beside him, her hand gently resting on his cheek. “This is lovely” she insisted gently.

“I’m glad you like it” he smiled.

Viola merely grinned at him for a moment before she kissed him gently, marvelling about just how lucky she was to have him.

“You got the flowers I sent to the store, didn’t you?” Iker mumbled as he peeked up at the sky above his head, his arms settled around Viola who was laid at his side.

“Esther collected them for me. As always, they were beautiful” she insisted gently.

“You liked them?” he mused.

“I always do” Viola mused, messing with his hand which sat on her waist “They’re always so sweet” she enthused, her blue eyes closing quietly. It had been a quiet night, romantic, and Viola doubted that she could have asked for much more. It was easily the best Valentine’s Day she had enjoyed.

Iker watched the blonde for a moment before he reached out towards his jacket, pulling something out of his pocket. “Viola” he murmured gently.

Viola merely hummed, enjoying the comforting embrace.

“Mi amor, I want to ask you something” he murmured softly.

Viola shifted a little, rolling onto her side before she opened her blue eyes, allowing them to settle on the box which he held in his hand. “Iker” she murmured.

Iker smiled shyly. “I know that we’ve not had the greatest of relationships” he started softly “And I know that I am not the perfect guy, but you and me, it’s the best thing I’ve found. I know it started out badly, but I like to think in the last 13 months, that we’ve put together something pretty special and I am ready to make the next step with you. I know what I want, Lala, and I know that I want it soon. Viola, my beautiful Viola, will you marry me?” he posed.

Viola, who’d been staring at him wide eyed, merely swallowed, not quite sure what to say or do.
