Don’t Let Me Let You Go

55: Something You Need To Know

Staring down at the small white test that sat in her hand, Viola swallowed a little, admiring the result. It had been days, after her conversation with Pilar, Viola had purchased the test from the nearest chemist, but still she hadn’t quite been able to build up the nerve to talk to Iker about the positive result that it had given her. She knew that she had to, regardless of whatever happened, Iker was still the father and deserved to know that she was carrying his child, but she couldn’t find the guts. She knew how happy he would be, Iker had talked for months about the prospect of them trying for a baby, but she wanted a little time to think through what she wanted before she talked to him about it. She wanted to be certain that she was pregnant before she let him in on it.

“Miss Garcia?”

Viola looked up at the sound of her name and smiled a little at the nurse who stood ahead of her as she stowed the test in her bag. “I’m going to take a little bit of blood to test, OK?” she posed.

“How quickly can you get the results back?” Viola posed.

“We can have them in a couple of hours” the nurse noted “You’re welcome to wait here or you can give us your contact information and I will call you and invite you back” she added, smiling kindly as she wrapped a piece of rubber around the top of Viola’s arm.

Viola nodded her head quietly.

“You’re on your own?” the nurse posed, wiping Viola’s arm.

“I want the confirmation before I tell my fiancé” Viola noted “He’s wanted a baby for a little while and I would hate to get his hopes up” she added.

The nurse smiled. “It’s Ok, you know” she mused softly.

Viola nodded. “I know” she mused “I’ve never liked hospitals much” she added.

The nurse nodded as she placed the needle into Viola’s arm, carefully extracting a little blood. Viola watched the needle briefly before she squeezed her eyes shut, something which made the nurse smile. “If there is to be a next time, I suggest that you bring someone with you” she mused softly.

Viola nodded. If there was to be a next time, there was no way she was doing it alone.

Padding into the living room, Iker smiled a little, his dark eyes glancing at Viola who was sat on the couch, her blue eyes staring at the television ahead of her. “I thought you were in work this morning?” he posed.

Viola, who’d been vaguely watching the television, jumped a little.

“I didn’t mean to scare you” Iker noted “I was just surprised to see you here. I thought I would be making lunch for one” he teased, moving to press a kiss against her head.

“I switched my shift with Tiago. He worked this morning and I am going to do tomorrow afternoon. I had something I needed to take care of this morning” Viola explained.

“Anything important?” Iker quipped as he padded through to the kitchen, peeking into the cupboard in search of something to eat.

Viola swallowed a little and followed after him, collecting a bag from the side. “I need to talk to you about something” she murmured.

Iker, who’d set about making himself some lunch, turned a little, not missing the odd tone of her voice. “You’re alright, aren’t you?” he posed.

Viola shifted a little.

“Viola, if you’re having second thoughts about the wedding…”

“I’m not” Viola interrupted “I’m not having second thoughts, but I do need to talk about something with you” she insisted.

Iker frowned a little, but nodded. “Alright” he noted “What’s on your mind, mi amor?” he posed.

Viola peeked down at her feet for a moment before she took a deep breath, looking up at his face. “I was speaking to Pilar the other day” she noted gently “I told her how I was sick and what my symptoms were and she suggested…she asked if there was a chance that I was expecting” she murmured nervously.

Iker tilted his head. “Viola?” he pressed.

“I went to a chemist whilst you were out the other day and I bought a couple of those home tests and when I took them…they came back positive” she babbled softly.

Iker stared at her, his dark eyes wide.

“That’s where I was this morning” she murmured “I had to go to the hospital to get it confirmed and it was confirmed. I’ve been given an appointment with a midwife for next week and I figured that you’d want to be there. I mean, if you don’t want to…” Viola’s words were cut off as Iker leant towards her, kissing her strongly. Viola jumped a little at the suddenness of his movement before she wrapped her arms around him, dropping her hold the bag she held in her hand.

“You’re pregnant?” Iker mumbled as he pulled away from her.

Viola nodded her head. “The midwife will do a scan next week to determine how far along, but yes, I am” she murmured gently.

Iker marvelled at her, a smile filling his face as his hand moved down, resting against the front of her shirt. “You have no idea how happy this makes me, Lala” he murmured.

Viola smiled. “I knew that it would” she mused.

“And you?” Iker posed as he moved his stare back to her face “You’re alright, aren’t you?” he fussed.

Viola nodded. “It’s going to take a little getting used to” she noted, knowing what he was getting at “But I am happy, Iker. It’s going to be different” she murmured.

“The best kind of different” Iker insisted.

Viola nodded her head and ducked down a little, collecting the bag which she had dropped onto the floor. “I bought you something” she mused gently “We’ll call it an early birthday present” she added, offering him an impish grin.

Iker tilted his head before he took the bag out of her hand, pulling out the tiny Porto shirt that she had bought for him. “For baby” she mused “Look at the back” she added with a grin.

Iker smiled and flipped the shirt around, grinning at the printing that Viola had had done on the back, the word ‘Papa’ and his number 12.

“So?” Viola teased.

Iker shook his head and pulled her into another kiss, his hand resting protectively over her stomach.
