Don’t Let Me Let You Go

59: Are You Mine?

Padding into the bedroom that her parents had lent to her and Iker, Viola sighed, her blue eyes noticing the tense expression that marked her fiancé’s face. He had been quiet, after their encounter with Alex, his cheerful and bright mood had faded, and Viola had little doubt that it was connected to the other man who had made a point of irking the goalkeeper. He had clammed up from the moment that Alex had press a kiss to her cheek and Viola doubted that she would be able to get away without talking about her former boyfriend. Shaking her head a little, she slipped her feet out of her shoes and padded towards the bathroom, preparing to get ready for bed.

“Are we not even going to talk about it?”

Viola shook her head at the sound of Iker’s voice. “What do you want me to say?” she mumbled, not shifting her stare away from the mirror as she quietly wiped the make up from her face “He was at the restaurant and that was the first time I had seen him in 3 years. I had no idea that he would be there” she added.

“You were talking to him” Iker noted as he moved into the doorway “You let him plant that kiss on you. Should I be concerned?” he muttered. He didn’t want to think badly of her, from what he knew of Viola, she was the last person that was likely to cheat on him, but the sight of her and Alex had gotten to him and he wanted to be reassured. He wanted to hear her say that she had no interest in the only other man that she had admitted to loving.

Viola scoffed.

“Don’t dismiss it” Iker grumbled “I saw you with him, Lala, you barely flinched when he used your nickname or kissed your cheek and that irked me, so don’t just stand there and tell me that that was nothing” he added, his voice firm and a little harsher than he had intended.

Viola shook her head. “I haven’t seen him in 3 years, Iker, not since the night he broke up with me, and I was surprised. Him calling me Lala was something I got used to when we were together, but that’s not an indication that there is something going on” she muttered, pulling her hair up into a ponytail.

“Do you still love him?” Iker posed bluntly.

Viola blinked a little before she turned around, her blue eyes levelling with Iker’s brown ones. “What do you think?” she muttered.

“Viola…”

“You think I’ve been playing you for the last 18 months?” she interrupted, her voice shaking a little “You think I lied every time I told you that I was in love with you, or when I agreed to marry you?” she muttered.

“Viola…”

“No, Iker, I am not in love with him anymore, I haven’t been for a very long time and I don’t want you thinking that that is going to change. Everything he did today was done with the express purpose of winding you up and you fell for it. He wanted to irk you, Iker, to play on your last nerve, and you let him. I am not interested in him, since I’ve met you, there’s been no one else I have wanted, and that’s all I have to say. You can decide whether or not you believe me” Viola insisted as she padded out of the bathroom, carefully pulling down the zip of her dress.

Iker watched her for a moment before he followed after her, helping her to slip the material away from her shoulders. “I don’t know what you ever saw in that smug moron” he murmured, his lips skimming along her collarbone “He’s an idiot” he muttered.

“He wasn’t when I met him” Viola noted, leaning into him slightly “He wasn’t too dissimilar to you” she murmured.

“I am like that man?” Iker squeaked.

Viola shook her head. “Not now” she murmured “But when I first met Alex, he was a lot like you. He was clever, thoughtful, romantic…he made me feel like I was lucky to have him” she noted.

“And now?” Iker pressed.

“And now I’ve found someone who does it better” Viola mused “Iker, Alex was my first love, my first everything, but he’s not what I want now. You’re going to be the man I marry, the man who is the father to my child and that’s not going to change” she explained softly as she turned around, her eyes peeking up at him.

Iker nodded his head. “I needed to hear that” he murmured, taking her hands “I know it’s stupid, but when he looked at you…a part of me wanted to smack that smirk off of his face” he admitted.

Viola smiled. “And a part of me found that side of you remarkably attractive. I don’t think I’ve seen you jealous before” she teased as she moved towards her suitcase, collecting her pyjamas.

Iker shook his head. “I’m sorry, Lala” he noted as he watched her “I didn’t mean to assume anything or accuse you. I just…”

“I know” Viola murmured “I know that you’re worried about me, you always are for one reason or another, but right now, I am good. We’ve got a wedding to look forwards to not to mention this” she mused, her hand gently stroking her bump “I’m happy, Iker, with you, and that’s not changing any time soon” she assured him gently.

Iker nodded his head before he stepped towards her, placing a hand against her cheek before he brushed his thumb along her cheekbone. “I love you, you know” he murmured.

Viola smiled and nodded her head. “I know” she mused.

“You won’t see him, will you?” Iker mumbled.

“I’m here for another 5 days, I think I can avoid him” Viola replied with an impish grin.

Iker chuckled a little before he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “Te amo, Lala” he murmured affectionately.

Viola’s cheeks warmed a little at his words before she tilted her head up, capturing him in a warm kiss. “I love you too” she assured him gently.

Iker nodded his head and pulled her into a hug, holding her tightly. He knew that it was irrational, he knew Viola and knew she didn’t have a malicious bone in her body, but he had needed to hear the words come out of her mouth.

He had needed to hear her say that she was with him.
