Don’t Let Me Let You Go

71: The Little Moments

Sparing a small yawn into his hand, Iker carefully padded out of his bedroom making his way towards the nursery which stood a little way down the hall. It was early, as he had every day since he had been born, Arthur had woken up a little before 5 in the morning, but Iker didn’t mind getting up, even if it did mean that he was tired when it came to training later in the morning, he had slowly grown to love the little moments he got alone with the infant.

It had taken a lot of adaptation, with Arthur around, things had become a little less about Viola and their relationship and more about their son, but Iker knew that Viola understood. For a little while, their infant son was going to be at the forefront of their thoughts and Viola seemed to be handling it well, something which pleased the goalkeeper who had been concerned that she would fail to take to having their baby around.

Yawning, he pushed a hand back through his dark hair before he nudged the door open, smiling a little at the sight of the little boy who laid in his crib, whimpering gently to himself. “You’re up early, little one” Iker mused as he quietly closed the bedroom door, not wanting to wake up Viola “Do you need another feed? Mama said that you were a hungry little man earlier” he fussed softly as he stepped towards the crib, moving to rest Arthur against his chest.

The little boy looked up at him, his blue eyes wide and tearful before he settled, quietly nestling into Iker’s chest, a sight which made the Spaniard smile. It had been a few weeks, Arthur was almost a month old, but still Iker was fascinated with him. He was a quiet baby, often he would merely rest against his mother or father and stare around, but every small move and sound the baby made intrigued Iker. He was learning new things about the infant each and every day and already couldn’t wait for him to start walking or talking. “Someone just wanted a little hug, didn’t they?” Iker murmured as he moved to sit down.

“He’s not the only one”

Iker smiled a little at the sound of Viola’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small look. “I thought you were sleeping” he murmured “You did the last one” he added.

“I was sleeping, but someone happened to kick me when he rushed out of bed and I couldn’t resist the chance to see my two favourite boys in one place. Is he hungry again?” Viola posed as she carefully stepped into the room, pushing the door closed behind her.

“I think he just wanted someone’s attention” Iker noted, his thumb gently brushing along Arthur’s back.

Viola smiled at the sight of the pair of them, her weight leaning on the door frame.

“You should go back to bed, Lala” Iker noted gently “Me and Arthur are alright and I should be back in a second. He’s almost asleep” he mused, his dark eyes peeking down at the little boy who yawned a little.

“I like seeing you with him” Viola countered gently “And I don’t mind being up. If you’d ask, I’d take care of the night feeds” she insisted gently. She liked that he wanted to help, since Arthur had come along, Iker had been insistent about doing more than his fair share, but Viola didn’t mind taking more of a share in the night feeds. She was on maternity leave for 3 months and didn’t mind taking the bulk whilst Iker was in the midst of the season.

“I like the night feeds, Lala” Iker mused “It give me a little time alone with him and I enjoy it. I want to do them” he insisted softly.

Viola nodded her head. “Just give me the word and I will do it” she offered softly.

Iker nodded gently before he flicked his attention down to Arthur, noting that he had fallen back to sleep. “I should get him back to bed” he murmured before he padded back across the room, gently laying the infant down in his crib before he pressed a kiss to his head. “Buenos noches, little one” he murmured affectionately before he moved towards Viola, capturing her hand.

“You’re amazing with him, you know” the blonde fussed as they made their way back into their room.

Iker smiled gently at the compliment before he pulled back the duvet, moving to settle down beside his girlfriend who contently cuddled into his side, her blue eyes shining up at him. “You’re staring at me” the goalkeeper teased, kissing her nose.

“You’re very cute” Viola countered.

“You should get some sleep” Iker murmured, kissing her forehead “He’ll be up in a couple of hours and it will be your turn” he insisted softly.

“I will go to sleep, but right now, I just want to lay here. It’s quiet and calm and I want to relish that. It feels like ages since I had you all to myself” Viola fussed gently. She knew that it was how it had to be, with Arthur around, their relationship had needed to take a back seat, but she wanted to relish the odd moment that she did have Iker to herself. It was only going to get fewer and further between when the season picked up again in the New Year.

“It’s not been that long” Iker insisted softly.

“Perhaps not, but I want to savour these little moments. I like being with you, Iker, and I want to relish it, even if it is 5 in the morning, I want to enjoy a few moments alone with my lovely fiancé” she mused.

Iker nodded his head quietly and moved his hand to her hip, tracing small and deliberate circles into the skin he had revealed from beneath her shirt. “We’ll get more time soon, you know” he murmured gently.

“How do you figure?” Viola mumbled, peeking up through her eyelashes at him.

“Our families are out for New Year’s Eve and my parents have agreed to come over to look after Arthur on our anniversary. We will make time, Lala” he insisted gently.

Viola studied his face for a moment before she nodded. “I hope so” she murmured “Because I like what we have, Iker, me, you and, Arthur, and I don’t want to lose it” she insisted softly.

Iker offered her a small smile and kissed the top of her head. “We’re going to be fine” he insisted “I won’t let us lose this” he added.
