Don’t Let Me Let You Go

82: I Am Too

Adjusting the suit jacket that had been wrapped around his shoulders, Iker peeked at his reflection in the mirror, admiring its fit. It had been coming, with the international break having arrived, Viola had insisted that they return to Madrid for a few days, and almost as soon as he had set his suitcase down, he had been rushed to a tailor, something which had him a little annoyed. He knew that things were in place, for weeks, Viola had been working on perfecting the final plans, and whilst he knew needed a suit, he would have appreciated more warning. After they’d arrived at her parents’ home where they’d be spending their time, all he’d wanted to do was sleep.

“It’s coming along nicely” Gerardo commented from his spot.

Iker nodded. “It is” he confirmed “They just want to take a few measurements before they take it off. They think it should be ready in a few days if you wouldn’t mind picking it up for me” he noted, offering the older man a look.

Gerardo nodded. “That shouldn’t be an issue. Elena would kill me if I stuffed up Lala’s big day” he teased.

Iker smiled a little before he moved to shrug out of the jacket, handing it to the tailor who moved to put it away.

“Are you excited yet?” Gerardo posed as he watched the younger man. He knew that they had a while to go, the international break had fallen at the start of April meaning that there was still a couple of months between them and the big day, but Gerardo wanted to ensure that there were no signs of cold feet. The last thing he wanted was to watch Iker leave Viola at the altar.

Iker shrugged. “I think I will be” he noted gently “But there is still a lot of time between now and then. I know that Viola’s looking forwards to it though, and I like that. A little part of me was concerned that she would change her mind” he explained.

“My daughter?” Gerardo snorted “Iker, she’s been smitten with you since she met you. There’s no way she’s going to change her mind” he insisted.

Iker nodded. “I’d love to hope not” he insisted gently “But the more she talks about it, the more confident I get that she will walk up that aisle. I know I am probably worrying about nothing, but it reassures me” he explained gently.

Gerardo smiled. “My daughter will be there, Iker” he enthused.

Iker offered him a kind grin before Unai appeared, dressed in a suit that was easily too big for him.

“Where did you find that?” Iker snorted, trying not to laugh at his brother.

“This is the size that Elena submitted” Unai complained.

Gerardo chuckled. “I know my wife, she didn’t put that order in. Someone’s playing a prank on you” he teased.

Unai frowned a little before he padded away, grumbling to himself.

“Did you do that?” Gerardo posed, eyeing Iker who was smiling to himself.

“I didn’t” Iker countered “But Sergio may have done on my behalf” he added.

Gerardo grinned and slapped the keeper’s back jovially.

He doubted he could have been happier with his youngest’s choice of partner.

“Before I sit down, there are no more surprise appointments that you need to tell me about are there?” Iker posed as he padded into the bedroom that Elena and Gerardo had loaned to him and Viola. He knew that things needed to get done, with the wedding only a couple of months away, the chances they had of making trips to Madrid would be limited, but he wanted a chance to relax. The flight that they had taken, whilst short, had been early in the morning and he wanted the chance to rest before they had dinner with her parents and siblings who were all due to visit.

Viola, who’d been reading contently, shook her head. “No, there are not” she mused “We’ve got a meeting with the caterer tomorrow to finalise the menu and the florist, but nothing for the rest of the day. You’re free to lay down” she enthused, offering him an impish smile.

Iker offered her a playful glare before he settled down on the bed, letting out a relieved sigh. “Where’s Arthur?” he posed, looking up at Viola.

“Spending some time with my mother” Viola noted “Or, as she put it, his favourite nana” she added.

Iker snorted. “I’d love to see her explain that to my mother” he mumbled, closing his eyes.

Viola shook her head. “Let’s leave that until after the wedding” she mused.

Iker smiled. “You don’t love the idea of the mothers fighting on our big day?” he teased, poking her side gently.

Viola rolled her eyes. “If they do, I am blaming you solely” she noted, her stare still fixed on her book.

Iker chuckled a little before he sat up, taking the book from her hands.

“I was reading that” Viola noted.

“I know you were” Iker countered.

Viola shook her head and attempted to steal the book back, something Iker prevented with ease, holding it up above her head.

“Did you come up here to irk me?” Viola complained gently.

“No” Iker replied “I love your family, but I can only take so much of them at once and if we’re to have dinner with them tonight, I needed to get out for a little while. Not happy to see me, Lala” he teased impishly.

Viola eyed the expression on his face and smiled. “Always” she mused.

Iker smiled gently before he handed her book back, allowing her to turn her attention back to it.

Iker sat at her side, admiring her contently for a few moments before he leant over, kissing her softly.

Viola jumped a little and leant back, offering him a small confused look. “What was that for?” she squeaked.

“Can’t a guy just want to kiss his girlfriend?” Iker teased.

Viola smiled a little before she set her book down. “I thought you wanted to nap before dinner tonight?” she teased as she watched him tug at the bottom of the shirt she wore.

Iker shrugged, something which made her shake her head. “Sleep” she noted gently “You’re going to need the rest. My brothers want to discuss the plans that they and Sergio have come up with for your bachelor party and you’re going to need to be focussed enough to tell them that…”

“If they even contemplate a stripper, they will have to deal with you” Iker mused “You’ve mentioned it before” he added with a smirk.

Viola rolled her eyes, quipping something about him being the same.

Iker chuckled a little before he moved to lay down, his arm resting happily over Viola’s waist as she moved to pick up her book once more. “You know, I am really looking forwards to the big day” he mumbled, yawning a little.

Viola smiled and ducked down, kissing the top of his head. “I am too” she agreed.
