Take One for the Road

Three.

One spring afternoon whilst walking down the road I noticed a field of flowers I’ve never seen before. I wondered where they came from for I walked this road every day.

Why were they here and why now?

I rested myself upon the thick wooden fence that lined the road and watched the flowers. Time seem to fade away as I was absorbed by the colours and fragrance of the field. Captivated by the bees busily collecting pollen for their queen. Which made me think.

Was I a bee following the same path backwards and forwards doing the same repetitious task over and over again?

Time passed and the shadows grew before I let myself answer my own question. I was too ashamed of my answer, too ashamed to admit that my worry for the future was dominating my life. Sure my future was important but it would be nothing without the experiences of the present.

Watching the sun melting into a rainbow of flowers reminded me it’s nice once in a while to slow down and be present; to notice the magic of the world around you before time runs out and all is left is an endless field of darkness.
