Like I'm Gonna Lose You

Mattias’ POV- February 2015
Lucy walked into the apartment and smiled when she noticed me on the couch.

“How was work?” I asked her.

She nodded slowly and put her purse on the coffee table. Boba purred as she picked him up and took a seat next to me.

“How was your doctor’s appointment?”

I nodded and leaned a bit forward to kiss her. She pulled away and hummed waiting for my reply.

“I can probably play on Saturday” I said.

She smiled.

“That’s great! So you aren’t as injured as everyone thought you were”

“Just a bit sore” I admitted.

She nodded and Boba hopped off her lap. I shifted a bit and she smiled.

“You don’t look too happy about it”

“I wanted to take you out Valentine’s Day” I told her.

She looked at me and nodded slowly.

“It’s on Saturday” I added.

“Yes, I know”

I nodded and she shrugged.

“It’s fine, honestly. Don’t feel bad”

I looked at her and she laughed. Most women would be pissed about this, but then again Lucy was not like most women. Sure she fit the stereotypical Wives and Girlfriend appearance but she had her own job and life from mine. Most of the guys including Calle were freaking out over Valentine’s Day.

“The twins were born on the 14th, so I never really celebrated Valentine’s Day”

“An old boyfriend or someone you liked never bought you chocolate or roses?” I asked.

She shook her head and laughed as I proceed to ask “Why not?”

“No, it’s not that big of a deal Mattias”

“Of course it is” I said.

She smiled.

“I actually got us reservations for the 13th” I began.

She nodded slowly.

“This was before I got injured. I didn’t want it to be like our first date where I couldn’t get a reservation” I said.

She laughed and nodded.

“You overthink everything”

I shrugged.

“So dinner on Friday”

“Yes, its semiformal attire” I told her.

She hummed and nodded.

“So your cousins were born on Valentine’s day?” I asked

“Yes, Maia was born first and Nathan followed about an hour later”

She pushed her hair back and nodded slowly.

“So, what are they doing for their birthday?” I asked.

“They all went to Dallas since it’s the long weekend”

I nodded slowly.

“Why didn’t you go to Dallas?” I asked.

She looked at me and smiled.

“I thought the project we were working on would not be done by then”

“But it was?” I asked.

She nodded.

“You should go” I told her.

She looked at me.

“After our date, I can get you a flight and you can be with your family” I said.

She smiled.

“It’s fine, you don’t need to do that”

“I want to” I told her.

She shook her head.

“I like seeing you happy, and I don’t think I have ever seen you as happy as New Years Eve” I admitted.

She laughed and looked at me.

“You should go to Dallas” I told her.

“I wanted to go to the cemetary on Sunday actually”

I nodded at her and she pushed her hair back.

“If you still want to come, you can come”

“I’d like that” I told her.

She nodded and smiled.

“How old would your parents be?” I asked.

“My mom would be turning 52, and my dad would be 55”

I nodded trying to get the age they were when they passed away.

“Drew would be turning 25 this year as well”

I looked at her.

“I have…had a twin brother”

She nodded slowly and shifted a bit.

“Who was the oldest?” I asked.

She smiled.

“I was”

I nodded.

“Twins run in your family?” I asked.

She shrugged.

“I know they don’t run on my mom’s side of the family, but they might run through my dads”

“You never met your grandparents?” I asked.

She smiled and shook her head.

“I tried to make contact with them when I turned 18, but they said they wanted to do nothing with us. I don’t think they know my dad died. Well he was dead to them anyways because his parents never approved of my parents relationship”

She shrugged.

“It’s fine, Uncle Nick raised me well”

I nodded slowly.

“What part of Sweden was your dad from?” I found myself asking.

“Stokholm”

I nodded.

“Do you know your grandpa or Grandma’s name?” I asked her.

She shifted and nodded.

“Dad always talked about them. They were horrible to him and my mom but he always tried to give us this mentality that his family was good. My grandpa was German and his name is Derrick”

I nodded.

“Janzen” I said.

She nodded.

“I have an uncle, I don’t know if he’s older or younger than dad though. His name is Theo”

I nodded slowly.

“What about your grandma?” I asked.

She smiled.

“My grandma’s name is Elina”

I nodded at her and she looked down at her lap.

“What was your mom’s name?” I asked.

“Andrea”

I nodded.

“And your dads name?” I asked.

“Andre”

She laughed when I chuckled. That was cute, Andrea and Andre.

“I feel like I should at least know your parents names before I meet them” I told her.

She smiled and nodded.

“They know of you”

I smiled.

“You talk to them about me?” I asked.

She laughed.

“Kinda yea”

I nodded.

“Good things I hope” I told her.

She smiled.

“Of course”

I nodded and she looked at me. She then started crying and laughing.

“They’re happy tears, I’m sorry”

“Don’t be sorry” I told her as she wiped her eyes.

The tears would not stop though.

“It’s just”

She covered her mouth as a light sob came out.

“No guy has ever asked that”

I nodded and pulled her into a hug. She put her head against my shoulder and I took the time to squeeze her.
