He lifted up his hand, wrapped in a fist, and knocked three times on the door in front of him. He stood and waited and heard a crash inside, before a disheveled girl appeared before him. Her hair was up in a messy bun, sweat pants and a t-shirt were hanging from her body and her hands were filled with a string of Christmas lights. Her eyes landed on him and suddenly the Christmas lights were on the ground and her arms were around his neck.

“What are you doing here?” she yelled into his ear and he laughed, squeezing his arms around her waist and lifting her off the ground just a little.

“They let me come on for Christmas, I guess they got tired of my complaining,” he replied, his voice almost a whisper so he didn’t blow her eardrums like he did hers. Her laughter filled the doorway that they were still standing him and she stepped back, keeping her arms around him but allowing her to see his face.

“Merry Christmas,” she said, her smile wide as the words left her lips. She turned around and grabbed his hand, pulling him through the doorway.

“Merry Christmas, love.”
