Dear Love

Dear Love,

Bodies of water were your favourite thing. You were surprised when I guessed that about you; you never told anyone, you had said. But I remember the way your eyes lit up when we all drove out to the lake, with the setting sun as our guide and the music blasting from the crowded truck’s speakers. The smile didn’t leave your face all night.

We built a fire and curled under blankets, music quietly merging with the sound of lapping waves. You brought a blanket over to me and sat down, spreading it over us and leaning into me. I knew then that I wanted to stay that way forever, together with you under the stars.

I could never take my eyes off of you.
