One Direction One Shots

Liam Payne 6

“Nicole, Louis is on the phone for you,” yelled my mother from down below. I gave a grunt and stretched, stepping gingerly out of bed. “Nicole, you need to talk to someone about it, you can’t just shut yourself in your room like this!” I sighed and growled around my room. Today wasn’t a good day, I decided, and I lay back down on my bed, hiding myself in the covers.
“Tell him to go away.”
“I won’t go away.” I jumped as a familiar voice came from behind me.
“What the hell, Louis??” I grumbled, pulling the blankets up higher. “You were on the phone?”
“No, your mum just said that to see your reaction,” he responded matter-of-factly. “And your reaction wasn’t good, so I just came on up.” I glared at the boy.
“Come to rub it in my face then?” I grumbled angrily at him. He shook his head and sighed, sitting on the edge of my bed.
“Come on Nikki. You know I wouldn’t do that…”
Louis had been my friend since the start of high school. We had both come from smaller schools and didn’t really have any friends at this new school, so somehow we found each other. Steadily, our friendship group grew as the other boys from One Direction met us constantly outside of school. We had all stayed best friends even through their time on the X Factor.
But there was one thing that we didn’t agree on, and that was my now ex-boyfriend. He had joined our friendship group the end of year ten. He asked me to be his girlfriend and I couldn’t help but accept. He seemed too good to be true. And he was. One day I found him snuggling up to another girl, this one two years his senior. Louis had told me the boy wasn’t one you could trust from the start, but I hadn’t listened to him. In fact, I had ignored all of his warnings completely.
“Nikki, you have to let it go. Move on.” He said pointedly, poking my head with affection. I glared at him.
“Jason was the best thing I had,” I told him sadly. “I thought I loved him, but he ended up lying and cheated on me!” He rubbed my back comfortingly.
“I hate him, Louis! I wish I had listened to you!” I began sobbing. “I just… don’t know how I’m going to face anyone at school. I don’t know what they’ll all think of me for dumping him. I… I don’t know how I’m supposed to trust boys anymore.”
Louis smirked at me.
“So does that mean you don’t trust me.” My eyes widened in alarm.
“No, Louis, I trust you, and I trust the other boys from One Direction, it’s just… I don’t know…” He laughed at me and jumped off the bed.
“Come on, Nikki. You’ll be fine. I know of someone that can sort your problems out. A good friend of mine. And I believe he likes you a lot.”
Before I could ask what he was talking about, he thrust a piece of paper into my hand and bounded out the door. I sat there stunned. On the paper was an address to a restaurant I didn’t recognize, and a time and date. The date was today. Was this a date?
I glanced up at my Hello Kitty clock that hung on my purple walls. Great, I had almost six hours to sort myself out and get myself ready for this date. And trust me, it would take some work before I was actually decent enough to go out in public. But who was this mysterious person I was going to meet? I shook my head. All I could do was trust Louis. He had never been wrong before with this type of thing, and I guess I also had to make up for the Jason incident. I hoped my friend was right about this too.
I pulled on a bright purple shirt with a violin print on it, and slipped on my black skinny jeans. I took out my sleepers and put on some dangly purple earrings to match the shirt, put on my choker and wrist bands. I brushed my hair to one side and let my dark blonde fringe fall down over my left eye, leaving only my right eye visible. Finally, I pulled on my purple converse and was ready to go.
I made my way across to the restaurant. It was an Italian restaurant, but I could see it wasn’t really well known because there weren’t many people inside and it was only in a back alleyway in busy London. I decided to grab out the piece of paper and double check. Surely enough, this was the place. I looked at my watch. Ten minutes. I decided I’d stand outside and wait for this mysterious figure to emerge. Surely, Louis could have at least given me a name? I guess it was a surprise…
“Miss Summers?” a familiar voice came from behind me. I turned around and met a pair of dark brown eyes. The boy standing before me was definitely one of Louis’ friends, but he was also one of mine.
“Liam?” I asked questioningly. He nodded.
“Yes, that’s right Nicole. I’m your date for tonight.” He took my hand in his and led me into the restaurant. We sat down at a booth at the far side of the room. Although Liam was famous, no one acted like he was. I understood now why he picked such a restaurant. He was hiding from the media’s prying eyes. We ordered a pepperoni pizza to share. Liam got some lemonade and I got a glass of water. We sat there together in silence for a few minutes.
“So, Louis said we need to talk about your uh… break up?” he said sheepishly. I looked at him long and hard, my blue-grey eyes searching his chocolate ones.
“Um, I really don’t want to talk about it.” We both fell silent again.
“Um… Louis told me some things about you,” I said, brutally honest.
“What did he say?” Liam asked, scared. I glanced at him.
“Well, Louis said that you liked me a lot… is this true?” He stared at me, his eyes widening to the size of saucers. I noticed a small pink tinge across his cheeks. So what Louis said was correct.
“Liam, you do like me, don’t you?” He nodded, running a hand through his light brown hair. Today, it was flicked across to the left, almost long enough to cover his eye. It was a first, but right then and there I realized just how attractive the boy before me was. I had never really realized it before. Liam had always been Liam to me. He was famous and attractive, that I knew, but he was my friend, not crush. But tonight… things were changing. Now I actually felt myself drawn to the young pop star. Now I’d come to realize just how much I liked him, more than a friend. He must have been through a lot to put up with my rants about my ex, that stupid dickhead. If he had loved me all along, it must have broken his heart to see me with another.
I sighed and grabbed his hand from across the table.
“Liam… I know you’ve had to watch me with that jerk, and I appreciate you sticking by me still,” I began sheepishly. “I… I guess just now I realize how much you mean to me. You’re a really important person in my life. I think I really like you too.” He smiled at me.
“I’m really glad you like me, Nicole. All I’ve wanted is for you to be happy.” I blushed at his comment and gave his hand a gentle squeeze. Soon the pizza was sitting on the table, and we each took a piece, happily gazing at the other throughout the night.
Liam walked me home from the train station after we’d gone to see a movie. It had been about a month since he and I had gotten together, and things were definitely looking up. Of course, all of the other boys from One Direction had known exactly how Liam had always felt about me. Seemed I was the only one completely oblivious to it all. They congratulated us for getting together straight away, each giving me a bear hug and slapping Liam playfully on the arm.
I was extremely happy with life at the moment. With Liam, all my problems and insecurities seemed to evaporate. I knew he’d never cheat on me. I trusted him and loved him with all of my heart.
“Nikki, thanks for the amazing night,” he said, stepping up to my front door. “I hoped you liked it as much as I did.” I nodded with a blush. He gently leant forward and planted a chaste kiss on my lips. I could have sworn I melted then and there. We pulled away.
“Liam, of course I did,” I told him. “But, are you sure you want to head off home? We have a spare room and you can stay over if you need to. I know you live far away…” he shrugged bashfully.
“Only if its alright with your parents.” I nodded and grabbed his arm, pulling him into the house behind him.
“They won’t mind. They already know about us.” We walked in just in time for dinner.
“Mum, do you mind if Liam stays the night?” She looked at the boy and smiled.
“Of course, we’re just about to eat. Have you kids already eaten? Would you like to come and sit with us?” Truth was, we hadn’t eaten at all aside from popcorn.
“Um, yeah, we’ll eat with you,” I told her.
Liam and I took a place at the dinner table. As I was an only child, it was only me, Liam, and my mum and dad. Mum grabbed a roast chicken out of the oven and placed it on the table.
“Help yourselves,” she said, winking at my boyfriend. “What would you like to drink?” Liam jumped up and walked into the kitchen.
“I’ll grab the drinks, Mrs Summers. It's the least I can do.” She nodded, following him into the kitchen.
“I’ll show you were everything is.” I waited patiently at the dining table, tapping my nails on the wood. Little did I know my mother and Liam were having a conversation about me on the other side of the door.
“I really must thank you for looking after my daughter,” she told him. “It really means a lot to me and my husband. We were really worried about her for a time, after Jason.” The boy nodded at her in understanding.
“Yes, I was worried too.” She smiled not unkindly at the teenage singer.
“Yes, I was well aware you liked her. And I’m glad she finally noticed you. Her father and I have already accepted you as a member of the family.” Liam couldn’t help but blush a little, a small smile forming on his lips.
“I’m glad you both approve.”
“You’re the best thing for our daughter, of course we approve.” The conversation ended as the pair walked back into the dining room.
Liam took his place back next to me. We ate dinner, occasionally engaging in small talk. My parents and Liam got on completely. But I guess they should, seeing as Liam had been my friend for years by now. After dinner, we retired up to my room. My parents stayed in the living room to give us some space. Once we got up, I pulled opened my cupboard and pulled out a few DVDs.
“What do you want to watch?” I asked. Liam shrugged.
“Whatever you feel like watching.” Of course, I picked out a movie that the both of us liked, Toy Story.” Liam held my hand and grabbed a blanket off my bed, wrapping it around the both of us.
“I love you, Nicole Summers.” And he was serious. He only ever used my full name when he was being serious. I leaned in and rested my head on his chest.
“Liam, I love you too.” He smiled and kissed me passionately on the lips. I gasped, my lips parting a little to let his tongue explore. We sat, hugging and kissing for a while, the movie completely forgotten.
