Lilly's younger cousin, Sarah, has been in a psychotic state ever since she returned from the Labyrinth. None of Sarah's family understands what has brought on her sudden decline in mental health. Lilly goes to visit her younger cousin in the psychiatric ward to celebrate her birthday. That's when everything changes. Lilly just so happens to wish herself away, not knowing the power her words held.

Jareth is the King of the Underground. He has hundreds of thousands of Goblins beneath his power. It just so happens that he is looking for a bride when Lilly wishes herself away. She doesn't really get a say in the matter, but the two are married right away.
