Them

The sun's warmth colored his cheeks pink as he trekked towards the church in the sweltering heat. Still, it was merely a small price to pay if he wanted to arrive there quickly. His collar had been undone the moment he got off the car, hoping that some of the heat would be expelled from his body. But now, his neck glistened with perspiration and beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

Just not too long ago, they were walking on the same steps as he did today, holding hands as they talked about their life and their future; what happened in their classes and what their house would look like when they get married. If he closed his eyes and dug deep enough, he could remember how her hand felt wrapped around his, how her nose crinkled when she snorted and how her eyes seemed to glimmer, like gems, under the light. The sudden onslaught of memories struck a chord within him, and he smiled to himself because those were the moments that he wouldn't forget, no matter how hard he tried. Those were the times when he was the happiest, after all.
