Give Me Your Heart

01: That’s Easy For You To Say

Resting her head against the cool porcelain of the bathtub, Riley let out a small sigh, trying to settle the nauseous sensation that filled her stomach. It wasn’t the first time, in the 6 weeks that had passed since she and Gerard had ended their relationship, the feeling of nausea was becoming more and more familiar to her, and it concerned her slightly, even if it had never been too bad, the idea that the sensation wasn’t going away was a concern to her.

Taking in a breath, she pushed a hand through her dark hair before she carefully pushed herself to her feet, making her way towards the sink where she turned on the tap, splashing a little cool water over her face.

“Are you alright in there?”

Riley, who was gripping on the edge of the sink, let out another soft sigh before she padded towards the door, pulling it open to her roommate who tilted her head. “Wow” she quipped “Riley, you look awful” she added.

Riley rolled her eyes. “That’s what everyone wants to hear, Cass” she quipped as she padded past her friend.

“You were in there a while” Cassidy quipped, following after Riley “Are you alright?” she added.

“I’m fine” Riley quipped.

“You’re lying” Cassidy countered.

Riley rolled her eyes a little before she padded towards her wardrobe, moving to collect a set of clothes.

“Riley, I know that there is something wrong” Cassidy quipped “You’ve been off for a while now and I am starting to think it is more than you and you-know-who breaking up that is getting to you” she added as she padded towards her friend, stopping her from fussing with the clothes which sat in her hands. It was a tell of Riley’s, for as long as Cassidy had known her, she had tended to busy herself with little tasks when she was nervous or trying to avoid the subject, and for a second, she wanted her to stop. She wanted her to talk to her.

Riley sighed and plopped down onto the bed, a small frown on her face. “I need you to answer a question for me” she murmured.

Cassidy frowned. “Alright” she noted.

“You remember a while ago, when you and Ryan thought that you were…you know” Riley babbled.

Cassidy’s frown deepened a little.

“You bought a load of pregnancy tests” Riley spluttered “I need to know whether or not you still have one” she added, peeking at Cassidy shyly.

Cassidy blinked a couple of times before she allowed her stare to drop, eyeing the front of Riley’s shirt uncertainly. “You think that you could be...?” she posed.

Riley nodded. “I do” she confirmed gently.

Cassidy was quiet for a second before she nodded her head. “I keep a couple in the drawer in my bedroom, just in case. I can go and get them if you want” she noted gently.

Riley offered her a slightly shaky look before she nodded her head, something which caused Cassidy to excuse herself, moving to retrieve the two pregnancy tests that she had stowed in her bedroom.

“How long do you need to wait?” Cassidy posed as she looked up from her spot on Riley’s bed, her expression soft. It was a surprise, the idea that Riley even suspected that she could be pregnant, but Cassidy knew that she couldn’t let it show. Riley already looked nervous enough and didn’t need her asking all sorts of questions.

“The box says to wait 4 minutes” Riley quipped as she stowed the two tests on the end table.

Cassidy nodded her head. “How long have you thought that you could be, you know?” she posed tentatively.

Riley shrugged. “I’ve been feeling nauseous for a few weeks” she noted gently “And my time of the month was due about a week ago and there is still no sign. I think I’ve had a feeling for a while” she explained gently.

“And the padre?” Cassidy posed.

Riley rolled her eyes, offering Cassidy a pointed look that made the blonde woman nod. “Gerard” Cassidy noted.

Riley nodded.

“You know that if the test comes back positive, you’re going to have to talk to him, don’t you?” Cassidy quipped after a moment of quiet.

“I do” Riley confirmed.

Cassidy offered her a soft look before she peeked down at the watch she wore, watching as the seconds ticked past. “It’s been four minutes, Riley” she noted gently.

Riley nodded. “I know” she noted gently “I just…do you think that you could look at them, Cass?” she posed.

Cassidy offered her a slightly dubious look before she pushed herself to her feet, padding towards the end table.

“Well?” Riley squeaked, her teeth chewing on her lip gently.

Cassidy studied the two tests in her hands for a second before she turned to look at Riley, a soft expression on her face. “We’re going to need to get you to a doctor pretty soon” she noted gently.

Riley looked up at her. “You’re sure?” she squeaked.

“I am” Cassidy confirmed “They both say the same thing, Riley, that you’re pregnant” she added gently.

Riley blinked a couple of times before she pushed herself to her feet, moving to take the two tests out of Cassidy’s hands, her blue eyes studying them quietly for a moment.

“I can give you a second” Cassidy offered.

Riley shook her head, sniffling a little. “No” she noted gently “We should call a doctor. I should get it confirmed as soon as I can” she added.

Cassidy offered her a slightly uncertain look, but nodded nevertheless. “Alright” she noted “I will call your doctor and get the earliest appointment I can, Ok?” she offered.

Riley nodded, but didn’t say anything, instead focusing on messing with the hem of her shirt shyly.

Cassidy’s expression softened a little before she stepped towards her friend, wrapping her arms around her tightly. “You know, this is going to be OK, don’t you?” she noted gently.

Riley sniffed. “That’s easy for you to say” she quipped “You’re not the pregnant one” she added, sparing a slightly breathy laugh.

Cassidy quirked a weak smile before she pulled her close, offering her a tight squeeze that Riley responded to, a small shaky sigh falling out of her mouth as she attempted to keep herself in check.
