Give Me Your Heart

Resting his head against the mattress, Gerard carefully shifted his hand, carefully bunching up the shirt that Riley had worn to bed. It had been a few days, after Riley had shared the news of her pregnancy, they’d tried to keep things as calm and quiet as they could, but with a hospital appointment scheduled for that afternoon, Gerard couldn’t help but feel a little excited to see the progress of their little bump.

It had taken a little getting used to, the idea that they were expecting a second baby, but when he had wrapped his head around it, he had quickly become enthusiastic about the prospect of them welcoming another child, even if it was soon after Alexander, he was already counting down the days until they welcomed baby number 2.

Brushing his hand over her stomach, he marveled at the slight bump before he turned onto his side, pressing a kiss against the warm skin.

Riley, who’d still been sleeping contently, startled a little at the feel of his lips against her skin, something which made him smile a little. “I didn’t mean to wake you” he mumbled softly.

Riley shook her head. “It’s fine” she murmured, a small yawn falling out of her mouth “It’s about time I woke up anyway. Have you been up long?” she posed softly.

Gerard shook his head. “Only a couple of minutes” he noted softly “But I will have to get up soon. I’m due back in training this morning and I doubt Enrique will appreciate it if I am late on the first day back” he teased softly.

Riley offered him a small smile before she moved her hand, settling it atop his which still sat against her stomach. “You’ll be on time for the appointment this afternoon?” she posed softly.

Gerard, who’d moved to lace their fingers together, nodded. “Of course I will be” he enthused softly “It’s a chance to see our little blob, I am not going to miss it” he added with a grin.

Riley rolled her eyes playfully before she pulled his hand to her lips, pressing a soft kiss against the skin. “I am glad you’re so excited” she noted. It had been sudden, her second pregnancy had come somewhat out of the blue, and for a little while after she had told him, she had been worried that he would react negatively, something she knew would have planted doubts in her own mind. The positive test had caught her off guard, even if she had had her suspicions for a little while, and whilst she did have a few worries, she was mostly excited, something which it appeared that Gerard shared in.

“You thought I wouldn’t be?” Gerard posed, pressing a kiss against her forehead.

“You looked more than slightly surprised when I told you” Riley mused, offering him a slightly teasing grin.

Gerard scoffed playfully. “You caught me off guard” he noted “It’s not like I was expecting you’d tell me you were pregnant so soon after Alex” he added.

“I wasn’t expecting it either” Riley mused “But you’re happy, aren’t you?” she posed, her expression soft.

Gerard studied the look on her face for a moment before she pressed another kiss against her forehead. “Of course I am, Ry” he insisted softly “I mean, it’s going to take a little work, but I am excited about this, I promise” he added, his tone soft and reassuring.

Riley smiled a little at his words before she shuffled a little closer to him, pressing a kiss against his cheek. “I am glad” she mused softly.

“You know, I thought it would be a lot longer before we found ourselves back here again” Gerard teased as he plopped into the seat beside Riley, greeting her with a soft kiss on the cheek.

Riley, who’d been messing with her phone, shook her head, an amused smile on her face. “You’re not the only one” she quipped “I thought we’d at least make it a year before we ended up back here” she added.

Gerard offered her a small smile before he rested back in his seat. “Did your madre cause you any trouble when you dropped Alex off?” he posed softly.

“She was a little curious as to why we so suddenly needed a babysitter” Riley noted “But I told her that we were heading out to lunch with some of your friends and she seemed to accept it. I don’t think she had any idea about…you know” she added, her eyes glancing down towards her stomach.

Gerard spared her stomach a small look before he leant into her, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. Riley smiled into it, holding him close for a few seconds, before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached them, causing her to duck back, a hint of pink playing on her cheeks. “Riley?” Alison mused.

“Alison” Riley replied, a sheepish look on her face.

“It’s good to see the two of you again” the midwife enthused “If you’d like to come through, we can do an ultrasound to make sure that everything is as it should be” she added with a warm smile.

Riley offered her a small nod before she pushed herself to her feet, following the midwife into the small examination room. “I’ve checked the results of the blood test you had done a couple of days ago, Riley” the midwife mused as she helped the brunette up onto the bed.

“Is there anything to be worried about?” Gerard posed, taking up the spot beside the bed.

Alison shook her head. “It confirmed that Riley was pregnant, and everything else looked good. We’re very happy” she enthused as she moved to collect the gel “Riley, this is going to be cool, OK?” she added as she carefully scooted up the bottom of Riley’s sweater.

Riley nodded her head softly before she reached out a hand, offering it to Gerard who was quick to take it, squeezing it softly.

Alison offered the couple a small smile before she moved to collect the wand from the side of the scanner, carefully running it over Riley’s stomach for a few moments before she quirked a small smile. “If you look just there” she mused, gesturing at the screen “Then you can see your baby” she added.

Riley, who’d been watching the midwife, flicked her attention towards the screen, her blue eyes widening a little at the sight of the small blob. “That’s them?” she breathed softly.

Alison nodded. “It certainly is” she confirmed “And I have to say, everything is looking good, Riley. From the size of them, I’d estimate that you’re about 6 or 7 weeks in, which means we’re looking at a due date in July or August, but I will try and be more specific at the next scan. I’ll just go and make you an appointment” she added before she ducked out of the room.

Gerard watched the midwife out of the room for a second before he pressed a kiss against Riley’s head. “We’re really going to have another baby, aren’t we?” he mumbled softly, his eyes peeking at the screen.

Riley nodded. “We are” she confirmed softly
