She was like the moon: waxing and waning into your life. Sometimes she was so fully there, other times she was so hidden in shadow, only slivers of herself visible to the rest of the world.

Others said she was like low-hanging clouds over mountaintops. You could just barely make her out through the mist, a smokescreen always up to protect herself from the rest of the world. From what, nobody knew.

It was all part of the mystery.

And while some liked to think they knew her, no one truly did. And she reveled in that fact.
