Garden of Eden

three

Eden thought she had been in love once. She probably really had felt it, what she thought to be love.

It was just easier to pretend that there was nothing inside her to break.

But many men had loved Eden. They had all told her so, professing “I love you’s” like it was gospel.

And Eden would always have the same response: “No you don’t.”

They would never hear from her again after that. She faded into oblivion and no matter how much they tried to find her, they couldn’t. No matter how much they prayed she’d return to them, she wouldn’t.

She was gone. Already in another man’s bed, waiting for the inevitable, waiting for their professions of love just so she could disappear again.
