We Could Be Something

108: The Next Part

Adjusting the tie which sat around his neck, Iker spared a small sigh, trying to settle the nerves which twitched in the pit of his stomach. It had been a long morning, with his lack of sleep, as well as the fussing of his friends and family, he had felt a little overwhelmed, but he was pleased that it was almost time to get things underway, even if he was still concerned about the prospect of something going wrong, part of him was itching to see Adriana.

Loosening his tie a fraction, he rested his head back against the wall of the church which sat behind him before he let out another sigh, his eyes closing for a couple of seconds.

“You’re not going to run off, are you?”

Iker, who’d been enjoying the quiet for a couple of seconds, jumped a little at the sound of his mother’s voice before he lifted his head, his dark eyes settling on the older woman who stood a little ahead of him, Olivia’s hand in hers and Luca balanced on her hip. “I mean, if you are, I am probably going to have to come up with something to say to her” she added, offering him a light smile.

Iker quirked a small smile before he shook his head. “I’m not going to run off” he noted “But there are a load of guests inside, all waiting to make a fuss of me, and I figured I could have a couple of minutes to myself before we get started” he added, carefully pushing himself up to his feet before he stepped towards his mother, gently taking Luca into his arms.

Carmen watched him for a couple of seconds before she quirked a small smile, her hand gently moving to adjust the tie which he had managed to skew to one side. “You know, I can’t think of the last time I saw you so nervous and shy” she teased, smoothing out his collar.

Iker shook his head. “I am not nervous” he countered softly “I just don’t want anything to go wrong. Addie’s spent a lot of time planning this and I would hate for something to ruin it for her” he added, his fingertips gently smoothing out the dark hair which sat on the top of Luca’s head.

Carmen admired the movement of his hand for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, moving to lift Olivia up onto her hip. “Iker, today is going to be perfect” she enthused softly.

Iker opened his mouth, preparing to object, but Carmen was quicker, offering him another bright smile. “Iker, the little details aren’t the important part of today” she mused softly “I mean, of course, I would love nothing more than for everything to go off without a hitch, but today is about you, and about Adriana and you two starting the next part of your life together” she enthused softly.

Iker mulled her words over for a couple of seconds before he let out a small sigh, something which caused Carmen to lean up, pressing a kiss against his cheek. “You’re going to be fine, Iker” she enthused softly “But for now, you need to get inside. I’ve just got a call from Rafael and he, along with your bride, are only a couple of minutes away” she added, her voice soft and encouraging.

Iker offered her a soft smile before he nodded his head, carefully moving to settle Luca into her arms before he ducked down, pressing a soft kiss against Luca and Olivia’s heads before he stepped inside.

“Are you sure that this is what you want to do?”

Adriana, who was straightening out the material of her dress, startled a little at the sound of Ella’s voice before she lifted her head, a small smile playing at the corner of her mouth. “I am sure, Ella” she noted softly.

Ella offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly enquiring if she was sure, before she stepped towards her, pulling her into a soft hug. “I’m so happy for you, Ana” she breathed softly “I thought that you and Jon would work out, but you and Iker? You two make sense” she enthused softly as she ducked back, offering her friend a soft smile.

Adriana returned her smile softly before the sound of Rafael clearing his throat reached them, causing Ella to smile softly. “I’ll see you in there” she grinned before she stepped away, leaving Adriana with Rafael who padded up to her side, settling the bouquet of flowers that Adriana had picked out into her hand.

“You know, you look absolutely stunning, Adriana” Rafael mused softly.

“You think?” Adriana posed softly, her cheeks a soft shade of pink.

Rafael nodded. “Of course I do” he noted softly “And I know that that guy in there isn’t going to be able to take his eyes off of you. He’s going to be so in awe of you, sweetheart” he added, pressing a soft kiss against her cheek.

Adriana blinked a couple of times, trying not to cry, before she quirked a feeble smile. “Obrigado, papi” she mused softly.

Rafael offered her a warm smile before he offered his arm out towards her. “You’re still sure, aren’t you?” he quipped teasingly.

Adriana rolled her eyes playfully before she nodded her head. “I’m certain, papa” she noted softly.

Rafael offered her a slightly playful look, wordlessly ensuring that she was certain, before he nodded his head, carefully leading her towards the church. Taking a small breath, Adriana squeezed her father’s arm tightly, something which made Rafael chuckle. “You’re nervous?” he whispered softly.

“Maybe a little” Adriana replied, her blue eyes fixed on her feet.

Rafael admired the shy expression on his daughter’s face before he carefully nudged her side. “You should look up” he teased softly “He’s not taken his eyes off of you since we walked through those doors” he enthused happily.

Adriana wrinkled her nose a little before she carefully tilted her head up, her blue eyes settling on Iker who stood a little away from her, his dark eyes fixed on her. “I told you he’d be in awe of you” Rafael teased quietly.

Adriana playfully rolled her eyes before they came to a stop a couple of steps ahead of Iker, something which caused Rafael to smile a little. “I know that this goes without saying” he noted softly “But Iker, Adriana is one of the most important people in my life and I trusting you to take care of her from here on out. Do you think you can handle that?” he posed.

Iker, whose eyes were fixed on Adriana, blinked a couple of times at the sound of Rafael’s voice before he turned his head, offering the older man a small reassuring smile. “I’ll give it my best shot, Rafael” he mused gently.

Rafael offered him a small smile before he stuck his hand out ahead of him. “Congratulations, Iker” he mused softly.

Iker offered him another small smile before he shook the older man’s hand firmly.

“Congratulations, Adriana” Rafael mumbled before he pressed a soft kiss against her cheek, moving to take his seat.

Iker watched the older man back to his seat before he flicked his attention back towards Adriana, looking her up and down for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a grin pulling at the corner of his mouth. “I can’t even begin to tell you how spectacular you look” he mumbled, his hand gently taking a hold of hers.

“You look pretty amazing too” Adriana noted, a soft hint of pink on her cheeks.

Iker offered her another soft smile before he stepped towards her, pressing a light kiss against her cheek. “You want to get married?” he teased quietly.

Adriana giggled softly before she nodded her head, the smile not moving off of her face.
