We Could Be Something

Turning the page of the file which sat in her hand, Adriana shifted a little in her seat, trying to keep herself focused on the paperwork which sat around her. It had been a quiet day, Adriana had spent a lot of it cooped up in her office completing sections of paper work, and she was glad that it was almost lunch time, even if she hadn’t had much to do, she was glad that she would be able to take a break for a little while.

Scanning the piece of paper she held, she scribbled her signature on the bottom of it before the sound of a knock at the door caught her attention, causing her to look up towards Iker who stood sheepishly in the door way, a small smile on his face.

“Iker” she greeted gently “To what do I owe this pleasure?” she added with a teasing smile. It had been a couple of weeks, after she had told him about Jonathan and the baby, things between them had slowed down a little, but she was glad that he still seemed to want to be around, even if she was worried about getting too attached to him, she had grown to like spending time with him.

Iker smiled. “I bought you some lunch” he noted as he stepped a little further into the room “I figured you’d be hungry” he added as he placed the bag of food down on her desk.

“You know, I can buy my own lunch” Adriana quipped, taking the bag into her hand.

“I know you can” Iker mused “But I was just trying to be a thoughtful friend. Remind me not to do that again” he teased, plopping into the seat opposite her.

Adriana offered him a playful eye roll before she flicked her attention down towards the bag in her hand, a small smile appearing on her face. “You remembered my order?” she posed softly.

Iker shrugged. “You order the same two things, Addie. I think even I could remember it” he enthused.

Adriana spared him a mock glare before she moved to pull the sandwich out of the bag, something which made Iker smile a little. It had taken a little getting used to, the idea that Adriana was pregnant had surprised him initially, but he was glad that she had shared the news with him, even if it had knocked him for six. He was a little pleased that she had felt comfortable enough not only to talk about the pregnancy, but about her ex-boyfriend too.

“Didn’t you get anything for yourself?” Adriana quipped.

Iker, who’d been a little lost in his own thoughts, startled a little at the sound of her voice, something which made Adriana giggle. “You Ok?” she teased.

Iker offered her a mildly unimpressed look and opened his mouth to respond, only to be cut off as a dark haired woman stepped into the room. “Ana” she announced “I was thinking that it has been a while since you and I…” her words trailed off as her eyes landed on Iker who looked at her, his expression more than a little surprised.

“Ella” Adriana announced softly “I thought you were off today?” she posed as she pushed herself to her feet.

“I was supposed to be” Ella noted “But David got called into work this morning so I needed to switch my day off so that we could spend the day together. I didn’t realize that you were going to have company” she added, a teasing smirk playing at the corner of her mouth as she glanced towards Iker.

Adriana offered her a slightly stern look before she shook her head. “Iker, this is Ella, she’s a friend of mine. Ella, this is…”

“The famous Iker” Ella grinned “Ana talks about you a lot” she enthused, sticking her hand out ahead of her.

Iker tilted his head slightly. “I hope she says nice things” he noted gently.

“Of course she does” Ella grinned “She’s grown to be very fond of you” she added, sparing a teasing look towards Adriana.

The blonde woman offered her friend a warning look, something which merely made Ella’s grin widen a little. It wasn’t the first time, since she had found out about Adriana spending time with Iker, she had insisted on teasing her friend about it, and whilst she knew that Adriana wanted to take her time with whatever it was that was going on between her and Iker, she was pleased to see that it was going well between them. It was going to take a while, whilst Adriana appeared to be slowly getting over Jonathan, Ella was sure that it would be a while before she was ready to move on, and she only hoped that Iker would stick around. It was clear from the way Adriana spoke that they were good for one another.

“She has?” Iker posed, his tone caught between curious and teasing.

Adriana shook her head. “Ignore her” she quipped “She’s just trying to embarrass me, aren’t you, Ella?” she added, offering a look towards her friend.

Ella shrugged. “You do talk about him a lot, Ana” she quipped nonchalantly.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little before she shook her head. “Did you want something, Ella?” she posed, wanting to keep the topic away from her and Iker.

“I was going to ask if you’d like to grab lunch with me” Ella noted “But I can that you’re already…”

“It’s fine” Iker interjected gently “I was just passing by and I thought I would check in, but I am sure that Addie would rather head out with you” he insisted as he pushed himself to his feet.

Adriana shook her head. “You’d be more than welcome to join us, Iker” she noted softly “I am sure that Ella wouldn’t mind, would you, Ella?” she posed.

“Of course not” Ella enthused with a warm smile.

Iker shook his head. “It’s fine” he noted “I’ll see you later, Addie” he added before he ducked towards her, pressing a kiss against her cheek before he stepped away, ducking out of the room.

Ella watched after him for a few seconds before she shook her head, a small grin playing on her lips.

Adriana, who’d noticed the grin, shook her head. “Ella” she warned.

Ella grinned. “Ana, that guy likes you” she enthused brightly.

Adriana shook her head. “I am not talking about this again, Ella” she noted as she moved to collect her bag “Iker and I, it’s not something which is going to happen any time soon” she added before she padded towards the door, leaving Ella stood alone for a couple of seconds. Ella watched her out of the room before she shook her head.

She knew that it wouldn’t be quick, with her pregnancy and her lingering feelings towards he ex-fiancé, it was going to take a while for Adriana to feel comfortable about moving on with someone, but Ella could tell that there was something between her friend and Iker, even if Adriana hadn’t noticed it herself. The two of them were good for one another and to Ella, it meant it was only a matter of time before one of them noticed that they had feelings for the other.
