We Could Be Something
113: Here We Go Again
Running a brush through her hair, Adriana closed her eyes, trying to stifle the slight sensation of nausea that washed over her. It had been a long day, between the positive pregnancy test and her conversation with Pilar, Adriana had spent a lot of time thinking, and over thinking, the idea of sharing the news with Iker, but she was glad to be home for the night, even if Iker had been a little curious about why she had been quiet for a lot of the day, part of her couldn’t wait to curl up beneath the duvet and fall asleep.
Finishing brushing her hair, she carefully moved to settle the brush down on her dresser before she padded into the bathroom, moving to change into her pyjamas. Pulling the shirt down over her head, she paused for a second, her blue eyes admiring her stomach in the mirror. She knew that it was fast, Olivia was only two year old, and Luca only one, but part of Adriana loved the idea that her children would be born close together, even if it did mean coping with three children under the age of five, she was confident that it was something that she and Iker would be able to cope with.
Admiring her stomach for a couple of seconds, she quirked a small smile before she tugged the shirt down over it, moving to pad back into the bedroom where Iker, pulling his shoes off of his feet. “Did Luca finally go to sleep?” she posed softly.
Iker, who’d been focussed on undoing the laces on his shoes, startled a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, rolling his eyes playfully. “It took me a little while” he noted softly “But he’s safely asleep now. He clearly inherited his stubbornness from his madre” he added teasingly.
Adriana rolled her eyes playfully before she padded around the bed, pulling the duvet back.
Iker watched her for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a small sigh falling out of his mouth. “Are you going to tell me what is on your mind, Addie, or do I have to guess?” he posed, his voice slightly irked. He knew that there was something up with her, since that morning, she had been a little quiet and distant with him, and he wanted to know what it was that was on her mind, even if it had the potential to start a fight. He didn’t like the idea that there was something she wasn’t telling him.
Adriana, who’d moved to rest against her pillows, tilted her head a little at the tone of his voice before she shook her head. “Iker, it’s…”
“Don’t tell me it’s nothing, Addie” Iker interjected “You’ve been strange with me all day and I would like to know why” he added, his voice, and expression, softening a little.
Adriana studied the expression on his face for a couple of seconds before she sighed. “If I have been off with you, I’ve not meant to be” she noted softly “It’s just...it’s a little…I don’t quite know what to say” she babbled softly.
Iker, who’d moved to settle on his side of the bed, tilted his head a fraction before he shifted his hand, moving to take a hold of hers which fiddled with the bedspread. “Addie, mi amor, I’d like to hope by now that you know that you can talk to me about absolutely anything which is on your mind” he mused softly “We’ve been together for almost 3 years, we’ve just got married. You have to know that whatever it is that is on your mind, you can talk to me about it” he added, his fingers gently knotting with hers. He could see that she was nervous, whenever she felt shy, she tended to get a little fidgety, but he wanted to offer her some reassurance, wanting to ensure that she knew that whatever it was, she could talk to him about it.
Adriana spared a soft look down towards their hands before she shook her head, her teeth softly gnawing on the side of her lip. “Do you remember a little while ago?” she posed softly “I think it might have been around Christmas and we were talking about the idea of our little family getting a little bigger?” she added, her eyes scanning his face nervously.
Iker nodded. “I remember” he noted softly “You said that you wanted to wait a little while before we thought about another little one” he added.
Adriana chewed on her lip for another moment before she let out a small sigh, her fingers shyly messing with his.
Iker watched their hands for a couple of seconds before he ducked his head, meeting the stare of her blue eyes. “Adriana, what’s going on?” he posed softly.
Adriana peeked at the soft expression on his face before she mumbled something quietly enough that Iker didn’t catch it.
“Adriana, come on” he encouraged softly “Talk to me” he added, his hand squeezing hers softly.
Adriana closed her eyes before she shook her head. “I said, I don’t think waiting is an option anymore” she mumbled softly “I’ve not been feeling myself for the last week or so, and my period is late. I took a test this morning and…”
“You’re pregnant?” Iker interjected, his voice awed.
Adriana nodded. “I mean, I’ve still got to go to a doctor to get it confirmed, it could easily be just a false positive, but all the signs I had with Luca and Olivia are there. I am pretty confident that, in a few months’ time, we’re going to have another bump around” she babbled shyly, her eyes not meeting his.
Iker merely sat there quietly, his mind whirring with her words.
“I know that it is very fast” Adriana continued “I mean, Luca’s only just over a year, and Olivia’s only two, and so I would get it if you didn’t feel as though we were quite ready for another one. We’ve only been married for 6 weeks and if you’re not sure about this…”
“You’re sure that you are…you know?” Iker interrupted.
Adriana blinked, caught off guard by the interruption, before she nodded. “I’ll need to see a doctor to be one hundred percent, but I am sure. I feel like I did when I fell pregnant with Olivia and Luca” she mused softly.
Iker nodded his head slowly before he carefully moved his hand, pulling the duvet away from Adriana’s body.
“Iker?” Adriana posed, a frown on her face.
Iker ignored the sound of his name before he leant forwards, carefully bunching up her pyjama top so that he could see her stomach.
“Iker, I need you to say something” Adriana noted “I don’t care what it is, I just need you to say something” she added.
Iker quirked a small smile at the tone of her voice before he carefully leant down, pressing a soft kiss against her warm skin. “Hola, little one” he mumbled softly, his thumb brushing against her stomach.
Adriana, who was watching him, smiled a little at the soft kiss before she leant down, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “You’re happy?” she mumbled quietly.
Iker lifted his head a little before he nodded, offering her a wide smile. He knew that she had a point, Adriana’s falling pregnant again was fast, but still he was excited by the idea that they were expecting again, even if it did have the potential to put a strain on their marriage, he was excited by the prospect of a new arrival.
