We Could Be Something

117: We’ve Got Our Hands Full

Resting against the kitchen counter, Iker closed his eyes for a couple of seconds, relishing the quiet which filled the house. It was early, usually too early for the keeper, but when he had heard Luca’s whimpers over the monitor, he had had little choice but to get out of bed, even if the little boy had merely been stirring in his sleep, Iker had still opted to check on him.

It had been a few days, after Adriana and the children had returned to Lyon, almost a week had passed, and whilst the house had appeared a little hectic, Iker was glad to have them back, even if they had only been apart for a matter of days, he had enjoyed spending time with Adriana and their two toddlers.

Shifting his feet a little, he carefully lifted his mug of tea to his lips before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached him, causing him to blink his eyes open, his stare settling on Adriana who stood in the doorway, Luca on her hip and Olivia stood at her side. “So, this is where you got to, is it?” she quipped, offering him a soft smile.

Iker, who’d moved to take Luca out of her arms, nodded. “I’ve been up for a little while now” he noted softly “What are the three of you doing out of bed?” he added, settling Luca down into his high chair.

Adriana, who’d moved to settle Olivia into her seat, shrugged. “I heard Luca stirring on the monitor and I figured, seeing as they were both awake, we could come and have breakfast with you before you head off to training” she mused gently.

Iker quirked a soft smile at the sound of her words before he stepped towards her, his arms wrapping gently around her waist. “I think that that sounds pretty great” he mumbled, pressing a soft kiss against her cheek.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at the soft contact before she tilted her head, pressing a light kiss against his lips before she ducked away, padding towards the fridge to collect a few things for breakfast. “Are you going to be on time for our appointment this afternoon?” she posed softly, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled over them.

Iker, who’d moved to sit down ahead of Olivia, startled a little at the sound of her voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile. “I should think so” he noted softly “I mean, training ought to be over by then, so I really should be able to make it on time. It’s 1:30, isn’t it?” he posed gently.

“It is” Adriana confirmed “But you’re almost always late” she added, offering him an impish grin.

Iker rolled his eyes a little before he stretched his hand out, moving to take a hold of hers before he gently tugged her into the spot ahead of him. “I will be on time” he noted softly “And even if I am a couple of minutes late, I promise that I will be there for the important part. I am not going to miss out on an opportunity to see our latest little bump, Addie” he mumbled softly, his fingers toying with hers shyly.

Adriana watched the movement of his hand for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a small smile playing at the corner of her mouth. It had come out of the blue, her third pregnancy had caught her more than a little off guard, but she was pleased to see that Iker was so excited, even if she knew that he was a little worried about how they would cope with three young children, she was pleased to see that he was looking forwards to the opportunity to see the newest addition to their little family.

“So, Adriana, how have you been feeling since your last checkup?” Eleanor, Adriana’s midwife, posed as she led the blonde into the examination room, offering her a spot on the bed which sat to one side of it.

Adriana, who’d followed after her into the room, shrugged a little. “I am feeling OK” she mused softly “I mean, the nausea is starting to die off a little, something I am more than grateful for, but I am a little more tired than I was when I was pregnant before” she explained, her fingers knotting with Iker’s.

Eleanor, who’d been checking over the blonde’s notes, nodded. “We can keep an eye on that for you” she noted softly “But, apart from that, you’re feeling alright?” she posed.

Adriana nodded. “I am” she confirmed softly.

“Good” Eleanor noted softly, jotting a few notes down onto the charts “Your tests results are all looking very positive, and as long as you are feeling Ok, we’ll keep up the schedule we agreed when we spoke over the phone, but, if you feel as though you need to see me more frequently, don’t hesitate to call. I know this isn’t your first pregnancy, but if you have any questions, you can feel free to ask me” she enthused softly.

Adriana offered her a small grateful smile before she carefully moved to shuffle her shirt up, allowing Eleanor to squeeze a small amount of gel onto her small bump. Adriana flinched a little at the cool sensation, something which made Iker chuckle a little before he leant towards her, offering her hand a small squeeze.

Eleanor watched the two of them for a couple of seconds before she cleared her throat, causing the couple to look up at her briefly before they flicked their attention towards the screen. “If you look just there” the midwife mused as she gestured towards the screen “Then you will see your little blob” she added, carefully tracing the outline of the baby on the screen.

Iker watched the movement of her finger, entranced by the image on the screen, before he shook his head, trying in vain to stifle the smile which itched to form on his face. “Our little blob” he breathed softly.

Eleanor offered him a soft smile before she excused herself, musing about setting up their next appointment.

Adriana watched the midwife out of the room before she flicked her attention towards her husband, offering him a soft smile. “You look happy” she teased, gently poking the corner of his mouth.

Iker rolled his eyes playfully before he nodded his head. “I am happy, Addie” he noted softly “I mean, I know it is going to take a lot of work, we’ve got our hands full already with Olivia and Luca, let alone with another one, but I can’t wait for them to arrive. Our little blob” he mused, his hand gently brushing over her stomach.

Adriana admired the soft movement of his hand before she shook her head, moving to press a soft kiss against his cheek. She knew that he had a point, when the baby arrived, it was likely to take a lot of adaption for her and Iker to get used to the idea of having 3 young children around, but she was confident in them, even if a small part of her was a little nervous that they would struggle, she was sure that they would eventually get it right.
