We Could Be Something

118: You Have To Know That

Brushing his thumb over the small blob in the picture he held in his hand, Iker quirked a small smile, his dark eyes marveling at the slightly blurry image. It had been a little while, after their appointment with Eleanor, a few hours had passed, but still Iker hadn’t stopped smiling, not able to wipe the bright grin off of his face at the thought of Adriana carrying their son or daughter.

He knew that it was fast, despite the fact that they were married, he and Adriana had only been together for almost 3 years, but still he excited about the newest arrival, even if a small part of him was worried about how his and Adriana’s relationship would cope with three young children around, part of him couldn’t wait to meet the baby that was growing inside of Adriana.

“You know, I don’t think you’ve put that thing down since Eleanor gave it to us”

Iker, who’d been admiring the scan photo which sat in his hand, startled a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a small smile as she padded into the room. “I have put it down” he noted.

Adriana, who’d moved to sit beside him, offered him a slightly dubious look. “Are you sure?” she quipped “Because when I went upstairs half an hour ago to settle Luca and Olivia down for the night, you were staring at it and now, half an hour later, you’re still staring at it. Do you plan on putting it down at some point?” she added, a bright smile on her face.

Iker rolled his eyes before he shook his head, moving to settle the picture down on the coffee table. “I can put it down” he mused softly “But I like looking at it, Addie. I know it’s not our first time, but I still can’t quite believe that we’ve got another one on the way” he added, his dark eyes peeking down towards her bump which was just about noticeable beneath the jumper of his that she had wrapped around herself.

Adriana followed the line of his stare before she shook her head, her teeth nibbling softly on her lip. “I know the feeling” she mumbled softly “I mean, I thought we’d have a few more months before we started to think about another baby, but I am happy about it, even if it did catch us off guard. You’re excited too, aren’t you?” she posed softly. She knew that he was, from the moment that she had told him that they were expecting again, he had developed a habit of fussing over her ever-growing bump, but she wanted to hear him say it, even if she did know he felt. She wanted the comfort of hearing the words.

Iker mulled her words over for a couple of seconds before he quirked a small smile, offering her a small nod. “You know I am” he noted softly, his hand gently moving to rest on the front of the jumper she wore “I mean, you’re right, it did come as a bit of a surprise, but I am happy, Addie, even if it is a little sooner than I had been expecting. You know that I can’t wait to meet them” he added, his thumb gently brushing against the material of the jumper.

Adriana watched the methodical movement of his thumb for a moment before she shook her head, a small sigh falling out of her mouth.

Iker noted the small sound and tilted his head, a small frown on his face. “Addie?” he posed softly “Mi amor, what is wrong?” he posed softly.

“It’s…”

“Don’t give me it is nothing” Iker interjected softly “We’ve been doing this for almost 3 years now and I am getting pretty good at telling when you’re lying to me, so why don’t we skip over the part where you tell me it is nothing and get to the point where you tell me what is going on up here” he added, his finger gently prodding the side of her head.

Adriana offered him a small look before she ducked her head, another soft sigh falling out of her mouth. “I am worried” she mumbled softly.

“Worried?” Iker posed, a small crease in his forehead “What have you got to be worried about? Is there something wrong with the baby?” he added, his expression becoming slightly panicked.

Adriana shook her head. “There’s nothing wrong with them” she mused, her tone soft and comforting “I am just…I’m a little worried about us” she added, her blue eyes peeking up at him shyly.

Iker frowned. “What?” he posed, his tone caught between confused and slightly annoyed.

Adriana noted the tone of his voice before she shook her head, her fingers pulling at an invisible thread on the couch. “I love where we are, Iker” she noted softly “I love how things are between right now, how they have been since the wedding, but I am nervous. Things are really good right now, we’ve found a good balance, but I am a little worried. 3 children is a lot, let alone when they’re all under the age of five, and I am slightly concerned that this little one’s arrival is going to put a lot of strain on us” she added, peeking up at him through her eyelashes.

She didn’t want to cause a problem, since they’d gotten married, things between the two of them had been more than good, but it did worry her, even if she was excited about the idea of another baby, she was a little worried that it would cause things between her and Iker to falter, something she didn’t want.

Iker was quiet for a few seconds, allowing her words to settle in, before he nodded his head. “It is a lot” he agreed softly.

Adriana nodded. “It is” she insisted softly “And I know that bump’s not due for a little while yet, but I just…I’d hate it if we messed this up, Iker” she added, her hand moving to take his.

Iker watched their hands for a couple of seconds before he lifted his head, his dark eyes mirroring her blues. “I am not going to let that happen” he noted softly.

“Iker…”

“You’re right” he interjected softly “It is going to take a little work for us to get used to having another baby around, but Addie, you have to know that I am not just going to let us fall apart. I don’t know about you, but I like what we have going on and I’d hate to let go of it so soon” he added, his tone firm but warm and comforting. He knew that she had a point, with a third baby on the way, he had been a little worried that things between the two of them would falter, but he wanted to offer her a little comfort, even if he was worried slightly, he wanted to reassure her that he was going to do whatever he could to make sure that things kept working between the two of them.

Adriana mulled his words over for a couple of seconds before she nodded, a slight smile on her face. “I kind of like what we have going on too” she quipped teasingly.

Iker quirked a small smile before he ducked towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. “We’re going to be fine, Addie” he mumbled quietly.

Adriana nodded her head a little before she leant into him, stealing another soft kiss which made Iker smile, wordlessly promising that he would try his hardest to ensure that things kept working between the two of them.
