We Could Be Something

119: I’d Say It Worked Out

Smoothing out the sweater that he wore, Iker spared a small look towards the mirror which stood ahead of him, quietly checking his appearance. It had been a little while, after Adriana had confided in him about her worries, a few weeks had passed, and with his parents having arrived to spend a few days with him and his little family, Iker had been quick to seize upon the opportunity, wanting to take Adriana out to celebrate the third anniversary since they had started to date.

Ensuring that he looked alright, he padded towards the wardrobe and ducked down, collecting a pair of shoes before the sound of footsteps reached his ears, causing him to lift his head, his dark eyes watching as Adriana padded through the room. Admiring her for a second, he quirked a small smile before he pushed himself to his feet, his arms wrapping around her softly.

Adriana, who’d been focused on collecting her cardigan which sat on the bed, jumped at the feeling of his arms around her waist, something which made Iker chuckle a little. “I didn’t mean to scare you” he mumbled softly.

“It’s OK” Adriana mused softly “Are you nearly ready to head out?” she added, peeking up at him softly. It had been a little while, since they had returned to Lyon after the summer break, both she and Iker had found themselves preoccupied with other things, but with Carmen and Jose Luis more than happy to keep an eye on Olivia and Luca for a little while, Adriana was looking forwards to going out, even if it was likely to only be dinner. She couldn’t wait to spend a little time alone with Iker.

Iker nodded his head slightly before he dipped down, pressing a soft kiss against the bare skin of her shoulder. “I’ve just got to put on a pair of shoes, but after I’ve done that, we can go and say goodnight to Olivia and Luca and then head out. We’ve still got a little while before our reservation” he mused as he pulled away from her slightly, moving to collect the pair of shoes which sat ahead of the wardrobe.

Adriana watched after him for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a small smile on her face. “Can you quite believe that you and I have been together for 3 years?” she posed, breaking the brief silence that settled over them.

Iker, who’d moved to pull his shoes onto his feet, let out a small laugh before he shook his head. “When we first met, I wasn’t entirely convinced that I would ever make a move on you, let alone that we’d end up here” he admitted softly.

“You didn’t think you’d ask me out?” Adriana quipped, a teasing smile on her face.

Iker, who’d pushed himself up to his feet, nodded. “Things were complicated” he noted “You had just broken up with Jonathan, and you were pregnant with Olivia when we met. I didn’t want to be the guy who tried to push you into something else before you were ready, but look at us now. We’re married, we’ve got 2 beautiful children, another one way. I’d say it worked out” he added, offering her an impish smile.

Adriana smiled softly at his words before she stepped towards him, her arms wrapping softly around his neck before she pushed herself up onto her toes, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. Iker startled a little, slightly caught off guard by the kiss, before he settled his arms around her waist, holding her close for a few seconds.

“Iker...Oh”

Iker, who’d been happily kissing Adriana, startled a little at the sound of his mother’s voice before he pulled away, his dark eyes looking towards the older woman who stood in the doorway, her eyes on her feet. “Madre?” he posed.

“The children are asking after the two of you” Carmen noted softly “I thought you would like to come downstairs and say goodbye to them. I didn’t mean to interrupt” she added, her tone sheepish.

“You didn’t, Carmen” Adriana noted softly “We were just on our way down, weren’t we, Iker?” she posed, looking up at Iker.

Iker offered her a soft smile before he nodded his head. “We were” he confirmed softly before he took her hand, leading her out of the room.

“Have I mentioned just how spectacular you look tonight?”

Adriana, who was scanning the dessert menu, blushed a little at the compliment before she lifted her head, smiling gently at Iker who sat opposite her, a seemingly immovable smile on his face. It had been a quiet night, the dinner that Iker had arranged for their anniversary had been intimate and romantic, and Adriana had to admit that she was enjoying herself, even if she was feeling a little tired, she was pleased that Iker had insisted upon taking her out to celebrate the anniversary of the date that they’d started their relationship.

“You’ve mentioned it” she quipped softly “But, I don’t think I can grow tired of it” she added gently.

Iker smiled. “Well, you do look amazing, especially with that bump” he mused softly “You’re glowing” he added before he shifted his hand, moving to take a hold of hers which sat on the table. Knotting their fingers together, he carefully lifted her hand up and pressed a soft kiss against it, something which made Adriana’s already pink cheeks, darken a little more.

“You know that I love you, don’t you?” Adriana mumbled, chewing on her lip shyly.

“I do” Iker confirmed softly “And by now, I would hope that you know that I feel precisely the same way about you. I know that you’re worried, Addie, but right now, we’re in a pretty good place” he added, his tone warm and reassuring. He knew that she was still worried, despite his attempts to soothe her worries, he could see it on her face, and he wanted to offer her a little reassurance, even if he doubt that he could get rid of her nerves entirely. He wanted to reassure her that things between them were good.

Adriana mulled his words over for a couple of seconds before she nodded her head, lifting her glass up. “Happy 3rd anniversary, Iker” she mused, proposing a toast.

Iker smiled at the gesture and lifted his glass, clinking it against hers. “Here’s to many more years yet to come” he mused gently.

Adriana nodded her head in agreement before she carefully leant across the table, sneaking a quick kiss. She knew that it would take a little work, with the birth of their baby only a matter of months away, it was going to take them a little getting used to, but she hoped that they made it work. She hoped that they had more than a few anniversaries to celebrate in the future.
