We Could Be Something

124: You’re Here

Wheezing a little, Iker sped up to the reception desk, trying to capture his breath. It had been a rush, from the moment that he had ended the call with Rafael, he hadn’t stopped moving, and whilst it had taken him a while to reach the hospital, he was glad that he had finally arrived, even if he knew that there was a chance that he had missed the moment that his son or daughter entered the world, he was merely glad to finally be at the hospital.

Taking another couple of calming breaths, he rested against the counter for a couple of seconds before he cleared his throat, pulling the attention of the receptionist who sat a little away from him towards him. “I…I am looking for a room” he spluttered, still trying to calm his breathing.

The receptionist, who’d been typing something into her computer, startled a little at the sound of his voice before she nodded her head, shuffling a little closer to him. “I am going to need a name” she noted softly “And a ward. You’re family, aren’t you?” she posed softly.

“I’m her husband” Iker noted softly “And her name is Dr Adriana Montes. She’s going to be in the maternity ward” he babbled softly.

The receptionist nodded her head before she typed something into her computer, something which caused Iker to tap his foot impatiently. “She’s in room 210” the receptionist mused after a couple of seconds “That’s on the second floor. If you follow this corridor around, you’ll find an elevator and once you get to the second floor, the signs will take you to the room” she added gently.

Iker mulled her words over for a couple of seconds before he nodded his head, offering the receptionist a polite smile before he sped down the corridor, quickly making his way into the elevator. Pressing the correct floor, he rested back against the back of the elevator for a couple of seconds before he let out a small sigh, trying to soothe the knot which twitched in the pit of his stomach. Closing his eyes for a couple of seconds, he tilted his head back slightly before the sound of the elevator door opening reached his ears, causing him to push himself up.

Letting out another soft sigh, he quickly scanned the signs around him before he found the one that directed him towards Adriana’s room. Padding up the hall, he scanned the room numbers before he found the one that he was looking for, something which made him shake his head a little before he stepped toward the door, carefully nudging it open.

“Iker?”

Iker, who’d been trying to be quiet, startled a little at the sound of Rafael’s voice, before he lifted his head, offering him a soft look.

Rafael offered him a soft smile before he gestured over his shoulder, motioning that they could talk outside.

Iker spared him a slightly dubious look before he nodded his head, following the older man out into the hallway once more. “Rafael…”

“Everything is fine, Iker” Rafael interjected, not missing the nervous expression on the younger man’s face “It just happened pretty quickly. About an hour after I spoke to you, Adriana was moved into the delivery room, and she gave birth to perfectly healthy baby. Both Addie and the baby are fine, Iker, perfect” he insisted. He could see that he was nervous, from the moment he had set eyes on him, he’d known that the keeper was anxious to find out if things were OK, and Rafael wanted to reassure him, even if Adriana had asked him to be vague, he wanted to let Iker know that everything was OK.

Iker blinked a couple of times, allowing the older man’s words to settle in, before he nodded his head, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth. “They’re OK?” he quipped.

“Perfect” Rafael noted, offering him a soft smile “Now, Addie’s asked me to let her tell you anything else you want to know, so, I am going to go and collect Olivia and Luca from the crèche and get them home. I can call your parents for you if you’d like me to” he offered, patting the younger man’s shoulder softly.

Iker nodded his head softly before he quirked a small smile. “Gracias, Rafael” he noted softly “Addie, she really needed someone and I am…”

“You don’t have to thank me” Rafael noted gently “But you do need to get back into that room. Your wife and newborn baby are waiting to see you” he encouraged brightly before he padded away.

Iker watched after him for a couple of seconds before he carefully stepped back into Adriana’s room, quietly closing the door behind himself.

“You’re here”

Iker, who’d been trying to avoid making any noise, jumped a little at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, offering her a sheepish smile. “I am” he confirmed softly “Though, from what your papa said, I am a little late” he added, moving to settle down on the side of her bed.

“It happened pretty quickly” Adriana noted softly “But everything went as well as they had hoped for. I am feeling ok and bump...bump is pretty perfect” she added, her blue eyes peeking towards the door.

Iker tilted his head a little before he followed the line of her stare, his dark eyes widening a little at the sight of the small crib which Eleanor had wheeled into the room. “Addie” he squeaked softly.

Adriana admired the awed expression on his face for a couple of seconds before she leant towards him, pressing a soft kiss against his cheek. “Do you want to meet our new baby daughter, Iker?” she posed, offering him an impish smile.

Iker, who’d been watching the baby, blinked a couple of times before he turned his head. “Daughter?” he squeaked.

Adriana giggled a little before she nodded her head. “It’s a girl” she confirmed softly.

Iker blinked a couple of times before Adriana nudged his shoulder, diverting his attention towards the little girl who laid in the crib ahead of him, her blue eyes peeking up at him gently. “I think she would like to say hello” she teased softly.

Iker offered her a small playful glare before he shook his head, carefully moving to lift the little girl into his arms. Admiring her for a couple of seconds, he quirked a soft smile before he turned his head, pressing a soft kiss against Adriana’s lips, something which made the blonde smile softly, glad that he had finally arrived.
