We Could Be Something

127: Getting Used To It

Blinking his eyes open, Iker tossed onto his side, his ears doused by the sound of Gabriela’s cries which echoed away from the monitor which stood on the end table beside the bed. It had been a few days, after Gabriela had arrived, their home had been a hive of activity with people itching to coo over the new arrival, but with his parents and Adriana’s father having departed, things had settled down a little, something which pleased Iker.

He knew that it was going to take some time, with Gabriela around as well as her older brother and sister, things were likely to be hectic for a little while, but he confident that he and Adriana would figure it out, even if things were likely to get a little fraught from time to time, he was confident that they’d learn quickly how to handle the three children.

Sparing a small look towards the alarm clock, he allowed a yawn to fall out of his mouth before he pushed himself up, moving to collect a t-shirt before he quietly padded across the hall, nudging the door to Gabriela’s nursery open. Ensuring that he was quiet, he tentatively pulled the door to behind him before he padded towards the crib, quirking a soft smile at the sight of the newborn who laid in her crib, her blue eyes wide and tearful.

“You’re up again, princesa?” he quipped softly “It wasn’t too long ago that your madre was in here with you. She said that you were pretty hungry, do you need another feed?” he added as he carefully ducked down, lifting Gabriela into his arms.

Gabriela whimpered for a couple of seconds before she settled down, something which made Iker smile softly before he quietly stepped away from the crib, settling down in a chair which stood a little away from it. “You just wanted a hug, didn’t you?” he posed, gently smoothing out the tufts of blonde hair which had formed on her head. Gabriela stirred a little at the feel of his fingers before she nestled a little closer to his chest, quietly falling asleep.

Iker watched her for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, pressing a light kiss to the top of hers before he pushed himself back to his feet, moving to settle her down in her crib. “Dulces sueños, little one” he mumbled before he padded out of the room.

Ensuring that he had closed the door quietly, he moved to step across the hall before the word ‘papa’ reached his ears, causing him to turn, his dark eyes settling on Olivia who stood in the doorway of her bedroom, peeking up at him softly.

Sparing a small sigh, he shook his head a little before he stepped towards the toddler, lifting her up onto his hip. “Come on” he noted softly “It’s still a little early, but why don’t we go and get a start on some breakfast for your mama and brother, eh?” he added, offering her a small smile.

Olivia nodded her head softly before she rested it against his shoulder, something which made Iker smile softly. He knew that it wasn’t going to be instant, with a newborn and two toddlers around, it was going to take some time for things to settle down, but he was sure that they would, even if there were a few hiccups, he was sure that it would work out.

Letting out a small groan, Adriana stretched her limbs out slightly before she tossed onto her side, her blue eyes peeking towards the alarm clock which sat on the end table. She knew that it was later than usual, she had briefly stirred when Iker had gotten up to check on Gabriela, but she knew that she couldn’t hide away in bed all day, even if the prospect of a lazy day was tempting to her, she knew that she had to get out of bed eventually.

Sparing a small yawn into her hand, she pulled her loose blonde hair up into a ponytail before she spotted the bedroom door edging open, causing her to peek towards it, a soft smile playing on her lips as spotted Iker in the door way, a tray of food balanced in his hands. “What are you doing?” she posed.

Iker, who’d been trying not to trip over Olivia who toddled along in front of him, startled a little at the sound of her voice before he lifted his head, offering her a soft smile. “We were making the most of my day off” he noted softly “Olivia woke up early and we figured that we could make you some breakfast before we came up with something to do for the rest of the day” he added, carefully moving to settle the tray of food down on the bed.

Adriana watched him for a couple of seconds before she shook her head. “You should have woken me up sooner” she noted softly.

Iker shook his head. “You were up earlier with Gabriela and I was up anyways” he noted softly “And I figured, seeing as I am due back in training tomorrow, I would give you the chance to lay in for a little while” he added, stealing a piece of toast from the plate which sat between them.

Adriana mulled his words over for a couple of seconds before she let out a soft sigh, something which made Iker shake his head. It wasn’t the first time, whenever the topic of him returning to training arose, Adriana seemed a little quiet and unsure, and whilst he knew that it was something that they had to talk about, he wanted to put it off for a little while, not wanting it to spoil the day which sat ahead of them. “I’m going to go and get Luca and check on Gabriela” he noted softly “Why don’t the two of you come up with something we can do for the rest of the day?” he added, offering Adriana a soft look.

Adriana returned his stare for a couple of seconds before she nodded, offering him a small half-hearted smile. “I am sure that we can handle that” she mused softly.

Iker offered her a slightly dubious look, wordlessly enquiring if she was certain, before he nodded his head, moving to step out of the bedroom.

Adriana watched after him for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a soft frown playing at the corner of her mouth. She knew that they had to talk, the look on Iker’s face confided that he knew that there was something bothering her, but she wanted to avoid it for a little while, even if she knew that they had to talk eventually, she wanted to put it off for as long as she could.
