We Could Be Something

Settling his bag down beside the door, Iker quirked a soft smile, his ears doused by the soft sound of Olivia and Luca’s chattering which emanated away from the living room. It had been a little while, with an away game, Iker had spent the night away from his little family, but he was pleased to be home, even if it had only been a night, a small part of him had missed the little routine that he and Adriana had settled into since Gabriela had arrived.

Ensuring that his bag was out of the way of the door, he carefully moved to hang up his jacket before he padded through the house, ducking into the living room where Luca and Olivia sat on the floor, happily playing with their toys whilst Adriana sat on the couch, trying to soothe Gabriela who whimpered softly in her arms. Pausing for a seconds, he admired them briefly before he cleared his throat, something which caused Adriana to look up, a soft smile on her face. “You’re back sooner than I thought you would be” she noted softly.

Iker, who’d moved to sit beside her, nodded. “We got on an earlier flight” he noted softly “And I figured you’d be glad to see me” he added, offering her a small smirk.

Adriana rolled her eyes playfully before she nudged his shoulder, something which made Iker chuckle a little before he carefully ducked towards her, pressing a brief kiss against her lips before he moved to lift Gabriela out of her arms. It was still a little odd, after he had suggested the idea of retirement, things had been a little awkward between him and Adriana, but he was confident that they would figure it out, even if it did mean having another conversation, he was sure that between the two of them, they’d make the right decision.

Adriana watched him fuss over Gabriela for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a soft smile playing at the corner of her mouth. “You know” she mused “That’s probably the calmest she has been since you left yesterday” she added, gently smoothing out the tufts of blonde hair which had formed on the top of the little girl’s head.

Iker, who’d been contently babbling to the infant, lifted his head, a quirked smile on his face. “It is?” he posed.

“It is” Adriana confirmed “She was particularly fussy overnight and now…now she looks more than happy” she added teasingly.

Iker offered her a boyish smile before he ducked his head, pressing a soft kiss to the top of Gabriela’s head before he mumbled quietly to her, offering Adriana a teasing smile.

Adriana rolled her eyes a little before she pushed herself to her feet. “I was going to start thinking about making something for lunch” she noted softly “Will you be Ok to keep an eye on them?” she added, sparing a soft look towards Olivia and Luca who were happily playing a little away from them.

Iker nodded. “It’s not my first time, Addie” he teased softly.

“Are you sure that you don’t need any help?”

Adriana, who’d been contently stirring the pot of pasta which bubbled on the stove, startled a little at the sound of Iker’s voice before she lifted her head, peeking towards where he stood in the doorway. “I am OK” she noted softly “What’ve you done with the children?” she added gently.

“Gabriela fell asleep so I put her in her crib” Iker mused, stepping a little further into the room “And I settled down Olivia and Luca in front of a film, meaning that, if you need a hand, I can offer it” he added, his arms wrapping happily around her waist.

Adriana spared a look down towards his arms before she shook her head, carefully leaning into him slightly.

Iker smiled a little at her reaction before he tilted his head a little, pressing a soft kiss against her temple, something which made Adriana closed her eyes for a couple of seconds. “I’ve been thinking, you know” she mumbled quietly, not wanting to disturb the sense of quiet and calm which had settled around them.

Iker, who’d moved to rest his head against hers, nodded. “What’ve you been thinking about?” he posed gently.

Adriana shifted a little in his arms before she turned, her blue eyes peeking up into his darker ones. “I’ve been thinking about what you said the other day, about you wanting to retire” she babbled softly.

Iker smiled a little at the nervous tone of her voice before he shook his head, pressing a light kiss against her forehead. “And what is it that you’ve decided?” he posed quietly.

Adriana peeked up towards him for a second before she drooped her stare, peeking down towards her feet. “I want you to be happy” she noted softly “I want you to do what is best for you and if this is what you want to do, then you have to know that I am one hundred percent behind you. Iker, I want you to be happy, I want our little family to be happy, and if the timing is right for you then it is right for me too” she babbled, her cheeks tinting a little pink. She knew that it was big deal, the idea that he was even contemplating retiring was huge, and whilst the prospect of what followed unsettled her, she wanted him to know that she was behind him, even if she was nervous. She wanted to reassure him that she would be happy either way.

Iker mulled her words over for a couple of seconds before he shook his head, a smile on his face. “You really think that?” he posed softly “Because if you don’t, all you have to do is…”

“It’s what I think” Adriana interjected “If this is what you want then I am with you” she added, offering him a light smile.

Iker admired the soft smile on her face for a couple of seconds before he shifted his head, gently cupping her cheek before he leant into her, stealing a couple of light and quick kisses. Adriana smiled into the kisses, her arms wrapping around his neck briefly before the sound of Luca’s voice reached them, causing him to duck back a little. “I should go and check on him” he mumbled softly before he padded out of the room.

Adriana watched him go for a couple of seconds before she shook her head, a soft look on her face. She knew that it was big step, the idea of Iker retiring was huge, but she was sure that they’d figure things out, even if it did take a little time for things to settle down, she was confident that they’d manage it.
