We Could Be Something

20: Can We Do It Again?

Smoothing out the material of the dress she wore, Adriana let out a small sigh, her eyes glancing towards the mirror which stood ahead of her. She had been at it for a while, with her date with Iker scheduled for that night, she had spent almost two hours attempting to get ready, but still she wasn’t happy, something which was starting to irk her.

It wasn’t important, for almost 3 months, she and Iker had been spending time together, but the idea that it was a date, and their first one at that, unsettled her more than she would have liked, even if she was sure that it would be fine, a small part of her was worried about messing up.

Sparing another glance at the mirror, she briefly contemplated getting changed before the sound of the doorbell rang throughout the apartment. Shaking her head, she took in a small breath before she padded towards the front door, pulling it open to Iker who stood outside, a warm smile on his face. “Iker” she breathed gently “You’re early” she added.

“Only a couple of minutes” Iker quipped “And I figured you’d be ready. You’re always ready before me” he added, a teasing smile on his face.

Adriana shook her head before she stepped out of the doorway, allowing him to step inside. “I just need to find some shoes and my coat” she noted as she padded across the room “I’ll be right back” she added before she ducked out of the room.

Iker watched her go for a moment before he shook his head, a small amused smile playing at the corner of his mouth. He could tell that she was nervous, even from only a couple of moments around her, he could tell that she was a little uncertain, and it amused him slightly. It wasn’t like her, Adriana tended to be confident and assured, and seeing her nervous made a pleasant change, even if she had no reason to be concerned, Iker kind of liked the idea that she was worried about something going wrong when it came to their date.

“Are you ready to head out?”

Iker, who’d drifted off slightly, jumped at the sound of Adriana’s voice before he lifted his head, a grin on his face. “I think so” he noted gently “Are you?” he teased, moving to take her hand.

Adriana watched him lace their fingers together before she nodded, something which made Iker laugh slightly. “You know it’s just dinner, don’t you?” he teased gently, leading her towards the door.

Adriana offered him a look before she nodded. “I know” she noted “But it’s just…”

“It’s dinner, Addie” Iker interjected “We’ll sit, we’ll talk, and maybe we’ll go for a walk afterwards. It’s really only a big deal if you make it one” he added gently, his hand squeezing hers reassuringly. He knew why she was nervous, chances were that it had been a long time since she had been out on a date, but he wanted to reassure her that there was nothing be concerned about. Even if things did go wrong, he was sure that they could put it behind them and return to merely being friends.

“You’re really not nervous?” Adriana quipped, ensuring that she had placed her keys into her pocket.

Iker shrugged. “A little” he noted “But I am sure that we can handle this, Addie. It’s dinner, we’ve been out together before” he enthused confidently.

Adriana offered him another look before she nodded, a small smile forming on her face. She liked the idea that he was so confident about their chances.

“Are you sure that you don’t want to just head home?” Iker posed as he padded alongside Adriana, his hand gently holding onto hers. It had been a good night, despite Adriana’s early nerves, it hadn’t taken them long to fall into their familiar routine, and it pleased Iker who, despite his confidence in them, had worried that things between them would prove to be slightly awkward.

Adriana, who walked a couple of paces ahead of him, shook her head. “I kind of like the idea of taking a walk before we head back to your car” she noted softly “Did you want to head back?” she added, peeking over her shoulder at him.

Iker offered her a small grin. “Not at all” he noted “I was just thinking about you. It’s getting pretty late and I know that bump tends to make you tired. If you wanted me to drive you home…”

“Iker” Adriana interrupted, a small laugh falling out of her mouth.

Iker shook his head. “I just want to offer you the chance to head home” he noted softly “I really wouldn’t mind if you wanted to call it a night” he added.

Adriana quirked a small smile, slightly touched by his concern, before she shook her head. “I’ll tell you when I want to go home” she noted gently “But right now, I’d like to take a walk with you. Do you think we can manage that?” she added, peeking up at him slightly.

Iker let out a small laugh before he nodded. “I think we can manage that” he agreed.

Adriana smiled up at him once more before she took a couple of steps, something Iker was more than happy to follow along with. “You have enjoyed tonight, haven’t you?” he quipped, swinging their hands slightly. It had been a good night, like most of the other times that they had headed out together, it had been comfortable and familiar, but still he wanted to ensure that she had enjoyed herself. He wanted to know if there was chance they’d have a second date.

Adriana glanced at their hands for a moment before she looked up at him, offering him a quirked smile. “I’ve had a wonderful night, Iker” she admitted gently.

“You have?” Iker posed.

Adriana nodded, her smile widening a little. “It’s been great, Iker” she confirmed softly.

“Was it good enough that you’d consider doing it again?” Iker posed, leading her through the park towards his car.

“You want to go on a second date?” Adriana quipped, a teasing smile on her face.

Iker rolled his eyes slightly before he stepped towards her, pressing a soft kiss against her lips. “I think I would love to go on a second date, Addie” he mumbled as he pulled back slightly.

Adriana, who had been caught off guard by the kiss, blinked a couple of times before she nodded. “I’d love that too, Iker” she breathed gently.

Iker offered her another gentle smile before he moved to take her hand, leading her back towards his car. He knew that it wasn’t going to be swift, with things as they were, it was going to take Adriana more than a little time to get used to the idea of starting a relationship with someone new, but he was optimistic, even if it was going to take time for them to grow into it. He was confident that they were onto a good thing.
