We Could Be Something

22: You’re The Worst Liar

Sparing a small yawn into her hand, Adriana tilted her head back, allowing her eyes to close for a couple of seconds. It had been a busy morning, with the games coming thick and fast ahead of the small winter break, Adriana spent a lot of time ensuring that the team’s fitness was still good and that any injuries were healing as well as they could, and whilst she loved her job, she was more than looking forwards to the 2 week break.

Stretching her legs out, she let out a small groan before the sound of a knock at the door reached her, causing her to sit up, glancing towards the man who stood in the doorway. “Can I help you?” she posed gently.

“This is the office of Dr Montes, isn’t it?” the man quipped, peeking down at the piece of paper in his hand.

“It is” Adriana confirmed “I’m Dr Montes. How can I help you?” she posed, pushing herself to her feet carefully.

“I have a delivery for you” the man noted.

Adriana tilted her head. “You do?” she posed, her tone slightly confused.

The man offered her a grin before he ducked back into the corridor, returning seconds later with a pretty bouquet of flowers. “These are for you” he noted warmly.

Adriana, who’d been admiring the flowers, shook her head. “Are you sure?” she posed gently.

The delivery man offered her a small nod before he handed the bouquet over to her, ducking out of the room once more.

Adriana watched him go briefly before she turned her attention towards the flowers, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. it wasn’t the first time, since they’d agreed to give their relationship a chance, Iker had proven more than once that he was thoughtful and attentive, but still she was a little impressed by the gesture, even if it was a little too obvious, she had to admit that she found him sending her flowers more than adorable.

Shaking her head a little, she moved to place the vase in the corner of her desk before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached her, causing her to wheel around to look at Ella who stood in the door way. “Ella” she noted “What can I do for you?” she added.

Ella, who’d moved to step a little deeper into the room, shrugged. “It’s about lunch time” she noted “And David’s busy with work. I was wondering if you were free” she noted gently. It had been a little while, with Iker around, Ella had seen less of Adriana, and whilst she was pleased that her friend seemed to be doing better, she missed spending time with her.

Adriana tilted her head. “I am only your second choice?” she teased.

Ella rolled her eyes. “Are you busy or not?” she posed.

Adriana offered her a laugh before she shook her head. “I am free” she quipped.

“Really?” Ella teased “I thought that ‘friend’ of yours would be around” she added, offering Adriana a pointed look.

Adriana’s cheeks warmed a little at the mention of Iker before she pushed herself away from the desk, moving to collect her jacket which she had hung on the back of her seat. It had been a little while, after their first date, almost a month had passed, but still she and Iker were keen to keep things to themselves, even if things were going well between them, neither one of them wanted to get ahead of themselves.

Ella, who’d been watching her friend, tilted her head, not missing the slight hint of red which had appeared on Adriana’s face. “Are you blushing, Adriana?” she teased.

Adriana shook her head. “Why would I be blushing, Ella?” she posed.

Ella shrugged. “I don’t know” she quipped “But if I were to guess, I’d say it has something to do with that friend of yours and that wonderful bouquet of flowers on your desk” she added, a small smirk playing at the corner of her mouth.

Adriana blinked a couple of times before she opened her mouth, preparing to object only for Ella to interrupt. “Come on, Ana” she quipped “You know that you’re the worst liar” she added, moving to settle herself down in the seat on the opposite side of Adriana’s desk.

Adriana offered her a look, not missing the knowing smile her friend wore, before she shook her head. “There’s nothing to say” she noted gently.

Ella spared a small amused laugh before she shook her head. “Ana, you’re lying” she quipped.

“Ella, I really don’t want to have this conversation right now” Adriana noted as she moved to pull her jacket around her shoulders. She knew that Ella was curious, since the brunette had met Iker, she had been keen to push Adriana towards him, but for a little while, Adriana merely wanted to keep things to herself. It was going well, aside from a few awkward moments, things between her and Iker were good, and she wanted to enjoy it for a while before they told other people, not wanting to hear the inevitable ‘be careful’.

Ella noted the firm tone in Adriana’s voice before she nodded, conceding slightly. “Alright” she agreed “But you two are…?” she posed.

Adriana offered her another look before she spared a small nod, a timid smile appearing on her face. “It’s early days” she noted gently “And we’re not sure of where is it going to go, but we are…kind of” she babbled softly.

Ella allowed the words to hang in the air for a moment before she nodded. “I know you don’t want to have this conversation now” she noted gently “And I have very little intention of starting it, but I do just want to say one thing, Ana” she added, offering her friend a look.

Adriana, who’d padded towards the door of her office, sighed, but nodded her head, encouraging her friend to speak.

“I want you to be happy, Ana” Ella quipped “And I like how Iker seems to have helped you since he arrived, but I just want to make sure that you’re careful with this. You’ve got a lot on your plate, Ana, and I would hate to see you get hurt again” she added tentatively.

Adriana mulled her words over for a second before she nodded. “I intend to be careful, Ella” she mused softly.

Ella quirked a small grin before she stepped towards the blonde, offering her a small hug. She was happy for her, even if she was a little reserved, and she wanted to encourage Adriana and her relationship with Iker, even if she did want her to be careful. She wanted nothing more than for Adriana to be happy.
