We Could Be Something

23: It’s Been A While

“Remind me how I let you talk me into this” Adriana quipped as she padded out of her bedroom, her eyes glancing towards Iker who sat on the couch, flicking through the texts on his phone. It had been a little while, after her conversation with Ella, a couple of weeks had passed, and with the winter break having arrived, she and Iker were due to head out with the team for dinner, something which made her slightly apprehensive. She knew that it was silly, since she had arrived at Porto, she had always attended the team’s Christmas dinner, but still she felt nervous, even if there was no reason to be worried, she simply couldn’t shake the bad feeling in her stomach.

Iker, who’d finished sending a text, spared a small grin before he pushed himself to his feet, moving to help her wrap her coat around her shoulders. “I didn’t talk you into anything, Addie” he mused, pressing a careful kiss against her cheek “I merely suggested that it might be better if we went together. You’re more than welcome to stay here if you want” he offered gently.

Adriana contemplated the offer for a second before she shook her head. “It’s alright” she noted softly “I’m already dressed and I am sort of hungry. I guess we can go” she added, a teasing smile on her face.

Iker rolled his eyes slightly before he ducked in, stealing a soft kiss. “We really don’t have to stay very long” he mused as he pulled away from her “If you want to head out, you can just tell me and we can go” he offered gently. He knew that she was nervous, from the moment he had arrived at her apartment, she had been fretting about the idea of heading out to dinner with the rest of the team, but Iker wanted to encourage her, even if they didn’t stay for very long, he kind of liked the idea of them going out as a couple.

“You don’t mind that?” Adriana quipped, peeking up at him gently.

Iker quirked a soft smile before he shook his head. “I don’t mind, Addie” he noted gently.

Adriana admired the smile on his face before she pushed herself up onto her toes, pressing another kiss against his lips which caused him to smile a little. It was still moving slowly, after their conversation, the two of them had agreed to be careful about how fast things moved, but Iker was still a little impressed with them, even if it was still early days. He was more than pleased with how things were going between them.

“So, Adriana, how long do you have before the baby comes along?” Hector Herrera posed, a small smile on his face as he peeked towards the doctor.

Adriana, who’d been sipping on her glass of water, startled a little at the sound of his voice before she quirked a smile, her hand moving to rest atop her bump. It had been a pleasant evening, despite her nerves, Adriana had settled quickly, and she was pleased that she had gone, even if part of her wanted nothing more than to head home and fall asleep for the night, she was pleased that she had gone along with Iker. “I’m due in February” she noted “But I am going to start my maternity leave a couple of weeks into the New Year” she added, offering a small glance down towards her bump.

Hector, who had been sipping on drink, offered her another warm grin. “I am sure that you can’t wait for that” he noted gently before he excused himself, allowing Iker to slip into the seat he had vacated.

Adriana watched him sit down before she shook her head, an amused grin on her face. “You know, you can leave me alone for more than 5 minutes” she quipped, her voice soft and teasing.

Iker offered her a playful glare before he shook his head. “I know I can” he quipped “But I was trying to be a considerate sort of boyfriend. Remind me not to do that again” he added, offering her a smirk.

Adriana rolled her eyes playfully before she spared a small yawn into her hand, something which made Iker smile. “You know” he mused gently “If you wanted to get out of here, I am sure that we could” he offered softly.

“You’d not mind leaving early?” she posed gently, another yawn falling out of her mouth.

Iker offered her a small shake of his head before he pushed himself to his feet, moving to collect their jackets. “We can say our goodbyes and then I will drop you home” he enthused gently.

Adriana offered him a soft look, wordlessly enquiring whether or not he was sure that he wanted to leave, before she nodded. “I would really like that” she enthused gently.

Iker offered her anther smile before he helped her to wrap her jacket around her shoulders. “I’ll just go and say that we’re leaving and then we can head out, OK?” he noted before he padded away

Adriana watched after him for a second before she shook her head, a small amused smile playing on her lips. She hadn’t wanted to go, when Iker had broached the topic of heading out to dinner with his teammates and her co-works, she had wanted to duck out, but she was glad that they had gone, even if they were leaving early, she had to admit that she had had a good time. Tugging her jacket a little more around her shoulders, she spared a glance towards Iker who was saying goodnight to his coach before the sound of someone clearing their throat reached her, causing her to turn and look at the man who stood behind her, an undecipherable expression on his face.

“Adriana” he quipped “It’s…it’s been a while” he added.

Adriana blinked a couple of times, her eyes looking him up and down before she shook her head. “Jonathan” she muttered.
